Found these 2 kits recentlybut need to know a few things before I dive in with the glue tube! Is there any real value in either of these two? The(SMP?) Impala is half way through a resto when I got it do I finish or sell? looks like it hd custom parts on it and some script detail is sanded. The AMT Toronado looks all there, some built and enamel painted so should not be hard to strip. I need some heavy cash for a holiday(vacation to most of you) in Sunny Italy. How far will these get me there.

"Holy Grail" Models?
HotRodaSaurus replied to Billy Kingsley's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Holy Grail! That should be the kit you want more than any other. But like many my grails change when I think of something.Sometime it is the kit other times it is the box art. Well here is my list: *=got it Rommels Rod (Original)* Li'l Coffin*(original) Tamiya 1/12 Tyrell(Jackie Stewart)* Airfix B17 Flying Fortress with Roy Cross artwork* Airfix 67 Pontiac GTO(for the Box art) Aurora Skiddoo Revell Cadillac Eldorado brougham* Revell Lincoln Futura* Revell Ford Country Squire* Revell 56 Buick Johan 61 Plymouth Fury Well thats a few and only one plane kit in there. Probably a few more will enter my head later. John -
Well I reckon my first kit built was the Airfix B 17 Flying Fortress. I got my dad to buy it because of the great box art. This was around 1967, the box was an action packed adventure just on the lid. Almost everything operated on this model but I was a bit disapointed the bomb bay did not opperate. After quite a few Airfix mainly military, and other types of kit I discovered Monogram. Rommels Rod was my first hotrod type kit, a bit of a transition between military and cars. I had built cars before but only Airfix European saloons and a couple of Pyro kits, AMT Revell, Aurora were all a bit hard to find and Airfix did a few MPC kits. I do remember Monogram's 1/8 Jaguar and also the big Tamiya Lola T70 , but these were beyond pocket money prices. After I built Rommel's Rod it was hot rods all the way, Li'l Coffin, Paddy Wagon and others. The only military kit I built after that was a Tamiya 1/35 Kubelwagen. Painted metalic pink(silver, white and red paint mix!!!) with a plastic lory engine from a 1/43 die cast stuck in the front weired or warped! my mind that is. Still got the AMT roadster built in the 1970s to what is now called Rat Rod style. It was meant to represent Joe Nitti's car from a picture in Hot Rod but I added flames and lakes pipes from the Coffin. Thanks, great memories, John

Hi George, yes petrol/gasoline is expensive over here around £1.16 per Ltr! thats getting on for $2.25. I actually went by the good old EuroStar train, 3 hrs London to Paris, its not worth driving, you can evan work it as a day trip! Also parking in Paris central is around $50 per day in a car park, you wont find many street parking spaces and nothing that big so anything bigger than a 2CV and your stuck. I did drive once and thought I would stop by in Paris(I was visiting a French swapmeet) and parked underneath the Avenue Foch. That is the most expensive street in Paris. A 1/4 mile long underground car park with row upon row of stored cars under dust sheets, Ferrari's, Mercedes 600 Pullman, 300SL and more. I thought I had entered a private car storage area, "no" the attendant assured me, this was normal for the Avenue Foch. No photo's though for security reasons If you ever get the chance to go , grab it while it's hot ,you will love it, and the Mrs will love you forever. Even if she does already Thanks, John Ps, The Jo-Han Cadillac is for building! she does not understand the collector scene andwould not have bought it otherwise
-
Well she did suprise me when she bid way over the top for, and won a mint unmade Jo-Han 59 Cadillac I had been outbid on, the Bay. She knew I wanted it but would bid no more. I did treat her to a trip to Paris though. One thing I do miss about building is that I put 100% concentation into it, meaning I did not think or talk work. That way I have a complete free evening thinking about things I like to do, radio or TV in the background, scalpel at the ready, now lets sort that side trim on the AMT 58 Chev. When I was at my workbench stress just didn't exist J
-
Why? because every day I check in here I look in the under glass and on the work bench headings. I see great builds, not all my scene but you are building. All my models, made and half builds are tucked away in storage till the day I can get back to work on them. Why?well I have ust started a new relationship and we dont have the room. Any model pics I post here are from my archives. What would I give to get that smell of acrylic in my nostrils, and that glue tube back in my sweaty hands I have my Holy Grail of the moment(Tamiya Tyrell, Jakie Stewart car) and I just cant build it till we move house. AAAAAAAAAAGGGHHH Highly frustrated, John

What are your favorite car songs?
HotRodaSaurus replied to Darrell Gwinn's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Tough one this! Just about anything by Chuck Berry but my fave has to be: You Cant catch Me Women and Cadillacs by Doc Starks and the Nite riders(sounds like the KKK but I think the group were black RnB) Transfusion, Nervous Norvus Brand New Cadillac, Vince Taylor Just how many versions of Hot Rod Lincoln were there? Anyone know? An issue of Street Rodder did a feature on the car that inspired this song, was a few years back though, probably 20+ John -
Does Resin shrink?
HotRodaSaurus replied to HotRodaSaurus's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed

Hi all, I want to re-pop a Fra***in M**T Cadillac hood as the Revell Mono 59 Seville and Biaritz hood is all wrong, the fluting on the hood does not go far enough and the hood tends to look too high in the central area. The AMT Ecto 59 hod flutes go to deep so thats not right either but the FM Cadillac looks ok. My question is will the resin shrink after a time? I have made parts before for my own use and they have. I did use ordinary resin for fibre glass with some talcum powder mixed. Then again if any resin caster makes a correct hood can someone let me know who please as i have not found an aftermarket hood of the correct proportions as yet. Thanks, John

As a collectors item or model kit if you tried to sell it on ebay it would probably get reported and taken off. I listed a RIO Mercedes 770K with Nazi flags and also a box of Atlantic plastic soldiers that included a figure giving nazi salute. Both were taken off as symbols of hate? Now I'm not into this nazi stuff but I think that was a bit extreme as I bought these items with other WWII stuff including a model of Emperor Hirohito's Mercedes Grosser(Fujimi kit) that did not get taken off, and some other aircraft kits This stuff also came with a tatty Rommels Rod(kept that one) and a skull of Ghost of the Red Barron also by Tom Daniel. Mind you I would have thought this (Ghost of RB ) might have been a bit offensive to the Richthofen family Personally the Japanese got this wrong because it is not even a wartime VW so I cannot see any connection. New Revell 1968 Charger R/T kit is Released
HotRodaSaurus replied to fury3's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Are the front fender marker lights slightly different for the 68 to the 69? or is it just the R/T models. The Landy kit uses a body without the vinyl roof so I used the Pro Modeler 69 body to build a Bullitt replica. John (PS George 53 if you see this check your pm for Lola stuff) -
Tamiya Lola T70 queries
HotRodaSaurus replied to HotRodaSaurus's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Thanks for the link -
Can you help with these questions please. Building box stock 1, should this car be actually British Racing Green rather than blue ? 2, Should the decal on the front sides(the P) be slightly titled as box illustration or upright? 3, Is the kit supplied engine(Chevrolet) correct for box stock model. TIA. John

Hanging Up The #11s For A Long While
HotRodaSaurus replied to Lownslow's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Saw this post and wondered why stop building what you want to build. Personally i don't like the Donk cars either, nor tuner imports or Nascar. But to hell with what I like, I'm a big fan of Classic cars and 50s 4 door sedans yet others only build rag tops, 2 doors or trucks. The same skill you use goes into your models that I put in mine and others use to build their favorites so keep building and keep posting, there are other builders on the board that like them. Cheers, John Ps, I love the state of the hobby room, a bit like mine. -
Floor Polish Question.(future?)
HotRodaSaurus replied to HotRodaSaurus's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Thanks for the link and all the other comments, I'm off to the supermarket for some Johnsons right now, might have to buy a kit to practice on A bonus from the link was how to colour clear parts as I have a Tamiya Lotus 49 Graham Hill 1/12 kit. This has a yellow tinted screen and I did wonder how best to achive this finish. Thanks, John -
Hi, I have never used this or any kind of polish other than good old Amway Silicon Glaze, then buffed up a shine I'm happy with, but seeing the positive posts about these floor polishes I would like a bit of info please; What kind of polish is it? a paste, liquid, paint and how applied please. Is it that kind that they polish hospital vinyl floors with using a rotary buffer? I know Future polish is probably not available in the UK but I would like to try to find something similar. Thanks, John

Has Anyone Built The Minicraft Mako Shark
HotRodaSaurus replied to HotRodaSaurus's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Thanks, I will look out for the AMT, at least it will be in scale with the other stuff I have John -
Fantastic models and boxes as always! There's a guy out there somwhere who was producing some great 'If only' boxes, mainly for AMT and MPC. Things like Dragnet cop car, Mash Jeep you get the picture. I think an article in SAE featured him(cant remember name) and occasionally a copy of the boxes has appeared on the Bay Thanks for showing, John
