"Happy Halloween!"...
HotRodaSaurus replied to locoengr's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Halloween trick or treating is not quite the same over here but i found an interesting funny story a couple of years back. I shall go on: Ok, so your friends are having a halloween party, who do you go as? Frankensteins monster? Dracula? the Mummy? No, all done to death ! what better than that young upstart Slim Shady(Aka Emanem). Right then , you have got the gear on, had MonsterMash playing most of the day and its now party time so off we go. Better get the mood right so its hockey mask on and out with the chainsaw, start it up and rev the nuts off it as you knock on the doorWWWAAAAAA..WWWAAAAAA..WAAAAAA. And a little old lady then tells you"Sorry son, the party is next door" Then of course the police turn up and check everything is going ok(someone has reported a nutter with a chainsaw at nearly midnight) They then have to ask the guy that they can see the party goer going as Slim Shady or even just 'Jason' but did he really need a petrol driven chainsaw to take to a party. If only the story were true..................But it was, reported in The Daily Mail from about 2 years back. A friend of mine once dressed as Freddy Kruger with realistic makeup from a theater stage make up artist slasher glove, the lot. As the poor little inocent child knocked on the door this guy rushed down his hall yanked the door open and before the kids could shout out he got in first "trick or treat he said with hands behind his back. One hand held a bar of chocolate, the other, an apple. After two kids hiding behind mum screaming, he had to give up as violence was threatened by the next, an irate father(Who appered more scared than the children) Good fun though John -
Can I just say I love the fadeaway , anyone else notice this? This seems to be a feature of not that too many original 1-1 Mercs, most famous would be Gil Ayala's for Louis Bettancourt and Sam Barris's first Merc. Thanks for showing, John

Swearing and cussing on the board
HotRodaSaurus replied to Gregg's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
He He, isn't English great! Gobsmacked! Speachless: heres how. Look at something amazing(one of Bill Geary's models ), stand there with mouth open like a fish, then slap hand over subsequent hole in face sharply. Gob= slang for mouth So gobsmacked is the action of smacking he hand over ones mouth while looking at or hearing something amazing, a little over the top etc, really just another way of saying " I cant believe it" Other sayings mainly by teenagers include; "get out of my face" "take a chill pill" "stop dissing me". It's a whole new world out there isn't it. John -
Swearing and cussing on the board
HotRodaSaurus replied to Gregg's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Hey!!!! HotRodasaurus aint extinct Now then, swear/cuss words. Use of the 'A' word. here in the UK we say a slightly different version for what some call a butt our word has 4 letters. Now the US version I always thought was a jokey way of saying someone is stupid as a mule, you know, the donkey type thing. as in a Jacka** . Well please excuse my ignorace here but is the US version of the 'A' word considered offensive if refering to 'that part of the body' as an a**. Heck why cant we all speak the same language -
Well then all, I usually always build straight outa the box. fact is I mainly build slammers/curbsides because I like to display with all the opening parts closed. I even sometimes leave the engine out hoping to use it in a non, stock kit such as a custom Mercury etc or drag car. Don't get me wrong, I love to see a well detailed model but cant justify the expense for the specialist aftermarket parts, I'm not a bad modeller and did win my only contest with a slammer but it was a custom(sort of) Revell Futura/Batmobile sometimes I just like to see what I can do with a kit, glue, paint and foil. One day I might get around to super detailing something, probably my Tamiya Lola T70 or some real heavy customising on a 36 Roadster John

Hi Gregg, well I use a Yahoo email for reasons I have to, and have not received anything. Does that mean I'm going to be kicked off?

Maybe someone looking to the future designed it as a funny car body

Mickie Thompsons Revellaser
HotRodaSaurus replied to HotRodaSaurus's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
I love these 1970s funny's. They were still a good reprisentation of what was on the street back then. If you drove a Ford you wanted the Fords to win, same with the Challengers, Cuda's etc despite the fact that they mostley ran a Chrysler based mill. I remember the yellow Mickey Thompson car, not the red though. I love the Pinto shape but fave is the Vega and Cuda equally. Thanks all, John -
With that nose down look I thought you might appreciate this! Droooool droooool This was at a UK car show a couple of years back, always a very popular entrant. John

Crappy Happy Halloween to all
HotRodaSaurus replied to CB's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Halloween early? hey we only know that Christmas is coming when the Easter eggs are in the shops -
In the 1-1 world of 1970s Funny cars I have an extensive collection of 1970s drag mags but cannot find many references to this car. Plenty for others such as the Revellution of Ed Mculloch, Jim Libermans Vega and the Pisano Matsubara cars etc. I know the Revell kit is not the greatest but I love the paint job on this funny so I am looking for pics to build a replica using the Jo-Han Pinto funny car as a starting point. Any websites or magazines you know of feature this car? Thanks, John

I discovered I was a collector.
HotRodaSaurus replied to E St. Kruiser50's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Rommels Rod was a bit of an inspirational/transition kit for me. After years of building military and transportation kits including the usual WW2 bombers, tanks, ocean liners, warships etc, I discovered Hot Rod magazine. Then my goal was to find hot rod kits, AMT were a bit hard to find, I didn't know they existed. Then I found a shop selling Monogram and of course Rommel's Rod. With this kit I was eased out of military and into the world of show rods. Sorry but things like the Barris's Bath Tub,and most of the those kind of rods did absolutly nothing for me, just to far out though I realise that is a little hypocritical with Rommel's Rod being the most far out rod ever. Great to hear they are repopping the RR though, I will certainly buy a couple so saving me a lot of effort in casting, also the Dragula, only to improve on my original build though. Not sure about the T Taxi though. Seeya, John -

Have I missed a post? Whats the eading? Are Revell Mono actually releasing a reverse engineered Rommel's Rod? I thought about trying to pop a resin copy from an original but just no time at present. -

HotRodaSaurus replied to E St. Kruiser50's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Hi George, keep lookin. I picked a Rommel's Rod up at a collectors fair for the equivelent of $14 a couple of years back. Fact is the guy even reduced it 50% because he had had it so long. You may not find one within the next couple of visits but check out the stalls who don't specialise in old kits, under the tables of the railroad sellers, the Beenie bears etc, you never know what might turn up. Mines for building one day, I did have 2 but sold one on the Bay and used the money to buy more kits to build. And yes, someone did give me $200 for it but that was their choice as I started it at £10 no reserve. So as earlier, keep lookin, not everyone knows what they are selling you might get lucky -
Well I love bikes, mainly the older kind of what is commonly known as Brit Sh*t. I ride a BSA but if I had a modern sports bike it would be a Ninja. Kawasaki have always built killer bikes and I mean that almost literaly, My fave Japanese bike of all time is the KH500 from the late 60s, these are its hiers to it's throne. Great builds, I love em . Lets see more bikes. John

Can white metal be strenghtened?
HotRodaSaurus replied to ismaelg's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Forgot to say, but Andy almost said it for me, Lead is sligtly softer than white metal so you could get away with soldering if you use the old type lead solder. White metal is used in shell bearings and contains(I believe) lead tin & zinc. Here's a hint, put your message on a model soldier board/forum of warhammer, the figures are white metal and lead and eople do restore them. John -
I used to be able to do the two wheeled thing on my motorcycle and sidecar(what do you guys in te US call this vehicle?),turn the front wheel into the side car, a flick of the throttle and up the s/c went. I could drive this on 2 wheels for ages,do figure 8s even with my mates mum in it She did hit me when we came back to earth though. If I find a photo ill post it, I know a friend took one.

Anyone know Terry Ross from England?
HotRodaSaurus replied to Scott Colmer's topic in Where's Waldo?
I do not know Terry personally but he used to display his models at various shows here in the UK. Unfortunatley we do not have any national shows I am aware of now due to a lack of participants but he also used to write a section in some UK based rod mags such as Custom Car or Classic American. I would try putting a call out on the NSRA UK website/forum, someone there may have a link. Other UK builders who may know him are Matt Irvine or Richard Coney. Seeya, John -
"American Graffiti" 58 Chevy Impala
HotRodaSaurus replied to Car Crazy 81's topic in WIP: Model Cars
I always wanted to do a replica of this one right from when the filmfirst came out. Thing is I could never get the red accents correct. If I hand painted it it went all squigely, then I tried with decal filmmost recently but could not get it to sit right. I think my next attempt will be using masks. J
