  2. WoW, some of those answers went a bit wild! Well I now know what a DONK is, they are not my style eitherr, fact is I had not actually seen any of those extreem examples so thanks for showing. I now take it, it is a high rider as to a lowrider and also anything with those huge wheels. The Donk refrence to the Impala/donkey that Harry mentions seems similar to something in the UK. We have a soccer team named Tottenham Hotspur who's badge is a fighting cock with spurs attatched standing on a soccer ball. Some people, usually opposing supporters refer to this as a chicken in a derogatory way. Thanks for the posts and links, John

  4. I have seen this a lot latley but what does it mean? Is it a derogatory name for a real car or a model or a kind of model? Or is it just a type of model? Heeeeeeeeeelp, I dont want to be missing out on anything here.
  5. Was it Don Emmons that combined the Pyro Auburn and a Monogram Duesenberg to produce a Boat tail Duesenberg. I have the build up in an old Rod & Custom magazine from the 1960s. Looks a real neat conversion. John
  6. Just wondering how accurate are the wheels, bodywork etc. It's 1/20th I think so not much in the way of detail parts available How best to get that two tone paint fade? Thanks, John
  7. Thanks guys, this looks a hell of a job but the finished thing, especially on that MG looks fantastic compared to the plastic moulded spokes. This info from both methods looks a great guide for detailing cars, bikes and especially dragsters Before I attemt this I am going to be buying up quite a few old kits with spoke wheels , part builts etc or parts missing. The project is an Airfix BSA C15 which somehow will end up reprisenting my A65. A long term project I think as well as a couple of others in the bag(Big Jaguar and Trumpeter Pontiac) Well anyway I do have most of an Airfix Honda 450 kit to play with so lets see how it goes. Any more ideas always appreciated. Many thanks, John
  8. Have you attempted this? I have a motorcyle kit and wish to spoke the wheels with wire rather than just leave the plastic spokes. So have you attempted this or could recommend a website. I know it is almost impossible to put in the correct number of spokes in a 1/16 scale kit without it looking cluttered as with super detailing, I also know that they have to be slightly offset at the hub to the rim. Any jigs or fixtures available? Heeeeeeeelp me please. This is the one thing that has always prevented me from building accurate bike kits. The only stiff wire I have found is 0.020inch from the railroad model shop. Can you get thinner than this? Thanks, John

  10. If you did did you score anything decent? I got my Big Deuce (cheap)and an original AMT 58 Impala. Lots of kits appeared in eager hands but I did not get to see them as I had a stall to look after. John

Many of the small British and European sportscars would be good sellers I think, there is always a god price for the Revell Austin Healey and how about the French make' Record', they did a great Renault Floride/Caravelle and its counterpart the Dauphine. The original small Airfix European cars are still regular sellers but the moulds are now a bit tired. How about some carefully chosen new releases, Tamiya's Mk II Jaguar was a hit when that came out. though the diecast makers do seem to have the upper hand with quality 1/43 in the sports car stakes. John

  13. What I'm thinking of doing is ordering a Chevrolet 1959 flat top sedan and1960 Cadillac Coupe to convert the Cadillac into a replica of my own car. The roof is a bit of a bear to convert as it means cutting the old off and grafting the four door roof on. Then I will have to sort some kind of 4 door interior. On the 1-1 vehicle I think the wheelbase is the same for all the cars in the Cadillac range except the series 75 so if that is correct the roof should fit. Thanks, John
  14. Well I have just found a reference, August 1956 Car Craft. Thats the earliest I have found so far, described as teen slang(The younger set not me anymore) and describes Augie Ozolins 52 Ford Mild Custom. Well thats me satisfied, teach me to read my mags properly! I originally asked this question as I have just finished one of the Albert Drake books about his time as a youngster in the 50s, one of the headings is 'We Never Called Them Kemps' Thanks all for putting me on the right track, John

  16. Hi all, I have a stack of old mags, Hot Rod, Rod & Custom, Motor Trend big pages and little pages that go back to the 1940s but have never seen a referance to a 'Kemp' in any of them! The only reference I have found is in some 1980s Street Rodder mags. Is/was it a 50s term for a particular kind of custom car or something newer? Thanks, John

  18. The rear wraparound is a bit larger than the Camino, I was just using it as an idea but thanks for reminder about the higher profile windshield. The flat top roof overhangs about 3inches also, maybe I can use the rear part of the Camino roof and some clear film for the rear screen. Cheers, John

  20. Did anyone ever produce a better shaped hood for the Mono Cadillac? I too thought it a great kit but the fluting of the fenders is too shallow(I had a 1:1 1960), tried out the Ghost Buster hood but the fluting was too deep, that is it goes too far towards the screen end of hood John

  23. Well it's one of my favourite kits. I built the old Bronze version, the worst part was the flash. I wrote top Johan about this and they sent me another tree of chrome, with worse flash I love this model because of all the working details, though yes, it was complicated. If I remember the parts were described as in a special stack pack. Sorry I don't have the box now. I think this kit was included in my Worst Kit topic by one contributor. I don't know what the later version was like but did read it was a quick build. Great kit, John

Hi all, as a modeler of some years I love sites like this(Model Car Museum link), looking at things from a bygone era brings the past alive,especialy as I was born then but not old enough to be really into models of any kind. I would like to know if this is an actual museum, we the public could visit or just online. There are many millions of modellers around the world, unfortunatley not all of us can travel the thousands of miles to visit this museum and thought if the whole of the museums exhibits were put on the site we could all 'visit' and enjoy them. Of course a museum has to be maintained so maybe a small contribution payable then we could access the main area so to speak., the money collected could then go towards more exhibits etc. Just a few thoughts above, because like many of us I love to look at everyones models in the Under Glass section but like to look at all aspects of collecting and building as well, as well as some real class models from the past on display at the museum.   25. The Pyro Auburn seems to come in for a right bashing here(Not kit bashing ). Funny thing, I thought I would start this thread after reading both replys to my Trumpeter Pontiac question and a recent Auburn thread. My opinions on those Premier kits came from looking at the Cadillacs parts in the box and thinking someone had put a decent kit in the oven on a slow heat to soften all those edges John
