  1. Hi, glad to hear you had some success on those parts! exactly the opposite to my experience. I received a 1/8 63Corvette as a gift some years back, the glass parts, in particular the winshield section was badly distorted as though it had been ejected from the mould to early. This was a Revell of Germany issued kit so I took the problem up with them. After sending the requested end piece from the box with the kit number they said they would sort it and send me another part. After 3 months I received nothing so emailed them. They told me then to send the other end as the original letter must have been lost. Another 8 weeks and still nothing. I then wrote to Revell USA who replied that I should take up the problem with Revell Germany , if no more luck, to contact them again. Well, nothing from Germany so emaild Revell USA again. Months and months and I am still waiting for Revell USA this time. That was all started around 2 years ago, I'm still waiting and have really given up on getting the glass parts I require. Seems you can buy parts in the US but not much luck if you live in the UK. I could not take the kit back to the original store as I had no receipt and simply didnt have the heart to approach the person who bought it for me. Next stop! Model Cars forum parts wanted I think. Hmmm, might have done that long ago John
  2. French short film. Sorry I dont know the title but it concerned a little garage in the south of France and the pasing trade. From big n brash Cadillacs playing jazz, to the old guy asleep on his horse drawn cart. No dialogue but not from the silent era. Any Ideas? Thans, John
  3. So where are all the cheap Rommel's Rods then John
  4. Hi Mark, I'm no expert but personally I think Russian cars are more 'interesting', than anything else to get the pulse racing. Many of the luxury types were based on out of date US models I have been led to believe and were either great or terrible. The smaller cars! err 2 stroke Moskvitches, Lada's based on Fiats and other stuff like that. I think I have the copy of Motor trend where the guy sneaks one back to the USA under the Ruskies noses. An interesting post, thanks. Though I wonder what would have happened if you had an interest in Russian cars in the McCarthy era As a side note, a few years back, here in the UK someone had imported one of those Trabants and tried to sell it for around £10 000 Was advertised as a unique opportunity to own the only one in England around the time the wall came down. Now there are lots of the darn things GRRRRrrrr John
  5. My all time favourite truck film, Wages of Fear with Yves Montand. John
  6. Hi Clay, afraid I am not a real Transformers fan but have you caught the Citroen ad series with the dancing car? Sorry I cant link it to YouTube but I am sure it's on the site and I think it's pretty WoW Maybe someone here could link it. John
  7. Here in the UK you would think it is as bad as the Black Death the way they are going on about it. I think it is just to take the publics mind off our dodgy dealing, expenses fidling politicians . As for me, I dont go wearing a mask to work or during work and if i sneeze, well I have not been put in isolation yet. Oh! Whatever happened to Bird Flue J
  8. Hiya, great job there! But you know what I REALLY like, is the fadeaway. Not seen it on many 1-1 customs or even models. Only 2 come to mind, Lois Bettancourt's Ayala built car and Sam Barris's personal Merc, both built around 49 and both claim to be the first chopped Merc I believe. A great build and thanks for showing. J
  9. Hi all, sorry could not get the pic to load so just a question. I plan on building a JoHan 1959 Cadillac but looking at the Revell Eldorado, in the rear trunk area there is a valanca(is that the correct term?) between the rear screen and the inboard edge of the trunk lid on the Revell model. On the Johan kit this is not present. As the Johan kit reprisents a 1959 Fleetwood 60 Special, is this correct or just one of those things about older models, as I thought the 60 Special series were longer than the other Cadillac bodies, such as the 62 series. Thanks, John
  10. What is it with the French and Ugly cars! Theu have some of the worlds most beautiful women They have some of the worlds most Exquisite food They have some of the worlds most elegant fashions Yet make the worlds most UGLY cars(sometimes) Can anyone post pics of the Panhard Here's a link to one http://www.flickr.com/photos/26460198@N02/...in/pool-panhard John
  11. Hi Gang, for a report on The Last Drag Race at Lions dig out a copy of HOT ROD from Feb 1973. This was the first magazine I ever read about hot rods and drags. Though I was not there and had never seen a drag race I found this a very nostalgic feature The mag has a great cover too which made me buy it. Jim Libermans Vega with 'Jungle Pam' in trade mark hot pants WoW
  12. English plates of this era, up to the late 60s early 1970s were Black background with White lettering and numbering. Using aluminium stamped plates the number letter combo, the base metal could be polished up to show through the background black plate. Later plates featured an off white background for the front and Yellow for the rear, both using Black number/Lettering Modern plates use a reflective Cream colour for the front, and reflective yellow for the rear. Try these, I'm a bit new to posting links but here goes: http://www.licenseplates.tv/prod/britainuk...2033.html#lpgen Licence plate link Cheers, John
  13. Hi all, Just my 10 pence worth(hey, I'm English ) Didnt see it mentioned but Heller make this car in 1/16, also the Henri Chapron convertable. Can be pricey but like everything else not always. I have seen the kits sell for £100 but also £30. The original design mechanics for the engine are based on the old Traction Avant, other than that just about everything else was totally redesigned. This car still rates as a 'Goddess' in France, especially Paris. A French friend told me of a Paris policeman stopping traffic to allow one to cross a busy crossing, only to be reprimanded by his superiors(fools) (French auto magazine). Check out the 1974 French film Les Valseuses (English title: Going Places) staring Gerard Depardier, One of the key features is a DS that the main characters steal, they dont crash it but........ Its a great film too In The Day of The Jackel, President Charles DeGaule gets the tyres shot out in his DS Limosine, and it gets away. Great find, great car, John
  14. This is from a large feature I believe on the restoration of this vehicle. One of the more upmarket old car mags like Octain, Motor Sport or Classic Car and Thougherbred. Cant remember which one but I seen it. J
  15. I usually check the tire for raised mouldings in this area of a tyre, munt it on a mandrel, usually another kit wheel same size that I an pit a toothpick into the centre boss. Then run thinned paint into the 'ring' and rotate it. if the coulour is a ittle watery or opaqe then let it dry and repeat. Personally I use thinned flat enamel as it tends to yellow slightly as WW tyre do. A but stuffed if there is no raised lips though, my hand is not that steady these days Just an idea I have tried and worked.
  16. Built and prepared by Richard Ruth Engineering I believe(May 1976 Street Rodder mag) JT Drat drat and double drat! posted that before reading the link
  17. Thats ok, I was just light heartedly summing up his racing career The guy obviously has a better buisiness brain than driving skills
  18. What does Bernie Ecclestone know about Motor racing anyway,he has never won a championship himself and apart from a couple of wins and placings back in his racing days he had a crash and gave up!
  19. I have quite a few drag mags fromthe early 70s so if the car is featured in any with photo's of the engine etc I will forward the issue dates or post pics. Good luck with this kit,it was one of my first dragster models back in the 70s. Cheers, John
  20. If you need a reference source for detailing a copy of HOT ROD May 1971 would be ideal, MPC even used the cover for the kit box and Don's How it Works leaflet is taken from the feature. John
  21. Anyone got a pic of the 1:1 or a screenshot or somethin' We cant get Hot Rod TV over here, well I cant anyway, would love to see it. J
  22. Only just seen this post so Happy Birthday Gregg and thanks for a great board. J
  23. Hi all, I asked this question a while back and dammit, forgot to reply. Thanks to all for giving me some advice on this, I'm going to try some of the methods out soon on my 49. I will post the pics when finished(together with 101 others ) but this might take priority. Thanks, John Sorry, this should have originally gone in the 'Tips tricks and How to section' There are some really neat ideas here so could someone alter the post to the correct topic heading? Thanks, John
  24. Read another post on a vintage sealed kit here but had this thought. With the advent of home diy stuff you can buy these days here is a small warning. Ok, it was not a kit, but I bought a video tape(yes it was a while back) from a dealer in these things and was assured it was brand new, being sealed in shrink like kits I thought it was. So when I opened it up there was the tape, the correct tape But when I looked at it , it had been wound on. When I played it the end credits were rolling showing that though what was on the box was in the box it was obvious it had been watched and re sealed, but without re-winding the tape. So you buy a real expensive kit, sealed in shrink, it's for your collection so do you unseal or leave it as virgin material. What is to stop anyone from swapping the contents then re-sealing the thing. I am sure there are modern kits that fetch high prices that are shrink wrapped though the older Monograms with the tightly folded cellophane would be a lot harder to seal than those using a home bought shrink wrap machine. Just thoughts, there are genuine unopened kits out there, I have bought the odd one or two myself, but the incident with the video made me think. Cheers, John
  25. I have one of these also, they are not worth a fortune, just that some like to collect unbuilts. My next Cadillac project though is a 1959 Mint Johan to go with my 60. Had it bought as a present to build so feel obliged John PS. Build up and pix will follow, hopefully in the not to distant future
