  1. Beautiful model. Captures those days of the golden era of Funny car racing when the cars looked like what was running on the street
  2. Beautiful isnt it, despite what some say. One of the worlds most iconic landmarks. I even bought one of those glass tacky flashing towers from an immigrant seller as a reminder, €3
  3. Say hi if you see me selling highly expensive old Hot Rod mags and some old even highly expensiver old models. I've got a grey Peugeot estate, I'm in Rayleigh by the way. John
  4. Cheers for that, Ill chase it up. Just love old derelict air bases. PS You off to the NSRA southern swapmeet on the 4th March? J
  5. Love those big ol'e 60s 70s cars and I love to see em chucked about a bit instead of all polished up and going nowhere at car shows. The music is a mish mash of Rock n Roll pt1 by (say it quietly)ahmm! Gary Glitter, Block Buster by The Sweet, who were two top selling artistes from the Glam Rock days and of course the Doctor Who theme music. I would love to know where this was filmed as I am a bit of an old Urban Explorer and love exploring our derelict urban heritage. Looks like an old UK airfield, probably left over from WWII when the USAAF departed or could be Greenham Common? Johnny Tee
  6. You beat me to that Yes Premiers Ford. Not very accurate but quite desirable here in the UK, never seen one myself but would buy one for the box art. It is based on a Prefect, which is the same basic body as the Popular and Anglia but has 4 doors. The blue and white estate(station wagon to the USA) looks like the roof has been sawn off extended then put on in reverse! But hang on, no its just Premier's poor execution of the model John
  7. just curious, what make kit is the 1/8 scale Lotus F1? I love those Tamiya oldies even if they are 1/12
  8. I always loved the Hemi Barracuda, but apart from the hemi, what was so special about it that makes it worth so much. My personal favourite Mopar is the 68 Charger, the 440 R/T.
  9. Yes they are, check out the story of the Schlumpf brothers and their collection and secrecy about their cars. Benjamin "Bugsy" Siegel was killed in 1947. Just thought I would mention that.
  10. Always loved this body style , one of the iconic early customs. As to Halfords paint, I have used it since... well forever really. But is there anyway to strip acrylics from plastic models? J
  11. I remember these two, especially the van with its double Rover P6 grill. What book are they from? I also knew it was the UK before I saw the plate on the Escort van simply by looking at the guy coming out of the tent Street machines were BIG in the UK in the 70s and 80s, mainly based on ..errrr British cars. Do you have a pic of Henri HiRise you could post up Or better still Dodds Beast(but thats more a Custom Johnny
  12. I once got £80($120?) for a Pyro original issue 52 Chevrolet. It was mint but I expected £15 at the most, I was delighted as the guys on here reckoned the top price should be, and is, around $20. Most of this guys stuff are buy it nows so he cant be accused of shilling up the price.
  13. I would think you need to be pretty good with a paint and brush to make the figures realistic. I could never do it, mine always came out looking like the ladies had ear to ear mouths when I imitated the lipstick on the Cadillac woman, the guys bow tie looked like a clown version So I kept my figure painting to a minimum and settled on the Li'l Coffin and Rommel's Rod skeletons.
  14. Just a note to anyone thinking of using fibreglass resin mixed with talcum powder(was told this yeeeeears ago). I cast some motorcycle tyre halves for an old Airfix Honda kit that were missing. I never got around to making the model up but when I looked at them a couple of years later they had shrank by about 1mm on circumference. They were perfect when first cast so must be an age or stabilising thing going on there.
  15. Hi, this looks great and has given me a few ideas for my own Rommel's Rod. I love the skeleton weathering techniques and a few extra bits and pieces you have added really make this model 'Come alive' Just wanted to point out, the Generals name was actually Erwin Rommel, actually quite a respected soldier by friend and foe. he even gets a good write up in the Jewish Virtual Library. But we diversify. John
  16. Surly desirability and rarity must go together to put a high value on things. I remember hunting toy fairs and eBay for Revells Lincoln Futura, simply because I loved the real car and the box art, but when it was released under the SSP program I bought it and an original issue as well. But then the original question was what is the rarest kit. Personally I would not bother with the 1911 Chevrolet simply because I dont like it as a model. The only reason I would keep that is to be able to say I had it in my collection. One mans meat, another mans poison I hear you saying. I used to collect old kits really only for the box art, but now most will be for sale when I sort out my digi camera. New projects in my life now but still love to build occasionally. J Ps Got a Sport coupe as above, no box and partially assembled, hmmmm, can feel the need to break out the glue!
  17. I bought the Frog 1/16 Cortina a few years back and built it, here's the link to prove it(hope it works) :- http://www.onethirty.../resin/Frog.php £15 with box, unbuilt but a hubcap missing. it was motorised but didn't work that well. Also bought the Vauxhall Estate but sold that for £25. I have seen most of the Frog kits and prices were in the region of :- Jaguar E Type £100 unbuilt, Morris 1100 £35 built, Ambulance £35 unbuilt plus other Cortinas around £50. The Ambulance I saw at an autojumble near Paris France, most of the others at toy fairs over the past £20 years.
  18. Give Google images a try. I always use this and owners club sites for references.
  19. For another British / London icon how about the ROLLS ROYCE SILVER CLOUD II 1:24 MINICRAFT KIT, it's about the same era as the bus and taxi not that out of scale but the wheels are , and its not that brilliant. Once apon a time you could see lots of these all over London. A Rolls Royce said you had money, it looked expensive and was expensive. Now it's all fancy sports cars
  20. Dont know if I just cant see a link here but what kit are we talking about please
  21. Online translator programs can be a bit awkward and sometimes translate literally what is written. When I use one I usually translate it sentence by sentence and also include my original English translation. This can sometimes cause confusion due to other forms and spellings of English, ie American, such as colour=color, boot=trunk, dolls house=doll house. Not to sure about the picture, without trying to stir up political things here, the image and the script look to be a pre-war Hitr youth type thing. i would definitely buy some though. Didnt a member post a topic on painting wood finishes. J
  22. I would think there is a promotion going on here with the Olympic Games coming up later. ' Get them on the shelves, the tourists wont be bothered that the Routmaster isn't in general service anymore, those stupid foreigners wont realise the FX4 cab is getting rarer now it's being superseded by a more disabled friendly version. SEL SELL SELL' shouts Boris and Sabastian. This whole Olympic thing is one big profit bag, even the parents of British athletes cant get tickets. But I bet Boris and Sabastian will have prime seats. Oooooops! sorry it's a model forum, not an anti Olympic debate. Ahmm!... I have seen the bus in the shops, very reasonable price I thought at £40, the taxi? not really looked at that but probably around £15-20 and looking at the kit contents, the back(boot-trunk) looks too vertical. John
