A great model and brilliant build. I always think this model does not get the credit it deserves. Just about everything is operational on it except the steering wheel and side windows. The more recent mouldings from the 1980-90s though suffered horrendous flash on the chrome tree. Did they improve this for the latest issue?

I think Modelhaus make a 56 Coupe.

Just ordered one of these, hoping I can turn it into a four door to represent my wedding car

Looks a bit like a Hebmuller from the back. Nice

A neat little model for a simple kit . Quite a lot of these get converted to slots.

Micro Balloons questions.
HotRodaSaurus replied to HotRodaSaurus's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Thanks for these answers. So would micro balloons be the best way to re-pop parts if the shrinkage is lest than plain old fibre glass resins or fillers? In the past I had a model motorcycle with plastic wheels, an Airfix Honda 450 to be exact. The tyres only had one side of each tyre so I made silicone moulds the used ressin to cast these tyre halves. I did not build immediately and when I did attempt assembly the cast items had shrunk by about 0.5mm on diameter I plan on re-popping a Cadillac hood from a Franklin Mint 1959 for my flat top project as the Revell Monogram hood does not look right and the AMT Ecto, the fluting is too deep.(Though I have not seen any topics reviewing this part). Cheers all, John. -
I have seen these mentioned in building topics as some kind of filler but dont know anything about them. So a few answers to some questions please. What are 'micro balloons' I have a bottle, they just look like powder. How are they used as a filler and what is the advantage over other fillers. Do you use them on resin or styrene parts. Anything else I should know? Thanks in anticipation, John.

No problem with this kit. One of the first car kits a lot of us have built. Death Race? (2000) I have a glue bomb and you may have given me an idea

1959-60 GM roof profiles
HotRodaSaurus replied to HotRodaSaurus's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Bill, a friend has a promo 59 Chevy flat top. I dont know the maker as Art says Johan did not make one so maybe AMT or SMP? Unfortunately is is bent like a banana with the usual acetate smile. -

Hi Art, Still trying to PM you but it is not working. Could you PM me any info please. you asked me to pm you for any help with this conversion. Yes please, any help would be appreciated. I am just about to order the Modelhaus roof, dont know how long to get it but am looking forward to receiving and starting this long awaited project. The other hard bit(for me) will be filling and cutting in the extra door as well as sanding off all that Eldorado trim. Funny that Corgi die cast made the 1959 Impala in the flat top design rather than coupe, also the 'Kennel Club' wagon was a bit of a strange one I think. Cheers, John. -
Thanks Richard, never seen a 1/25-6 1953 Eldorado. I do remember another die cast which looked fine in profile but was a bit too wide. I think this one was in 1/16

What did you see on the road today?
HotRodaSaurus replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The Marina was right at the time, but it just could not move with the times and looked outdated too soon, especially coloured beige. Not what we consider a classic, though that would be debatable if an owner was to describe one. As to what did I see today? A 1958 Oldsmobile 4 door. Quite a rarity in the UK. -
What kits are the 49 and 53 please.
-
WoW Is that blower belt detail an aftermarket part or a decal? Thanks, John.

1959-60 GM roof profiles
HotRodaSaurus replied to HotRodaSaurus's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Hi Art, I just got a message back that you cannot receive PMs at the moment. Cheers, John. -
Unlike todays kids who are not really into toy cars, we really loved all those details that worked. Could you imagine the health and safety police with these? We would have kids swallowing ejected passengers or hitting them in the eyes(Bond Aston), swallowing broken parts or even the wheels from some models(Rally Hillman, and Golden Jacks Olds Toronado) Now the main income from 'Toy' cars comes from adults in the collector market. Ironically, when building kits I prefer to build slammers as I am not that good on the super detailing

1959-60 GM roof profiles
HotRodaSaurus replied to HotRodaSaurus's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Here is the Revell 59 Seville and the Johan Sixty Special. Guessing this is where the length was lost. Looks like I will have to source a junker JoHan 59 Chevy body fro the correct front glass. -

An interesting point about the width sizes as Art points out. I think I could widen the flat top roof section but not sure if it would fit the windshield with it's compound curve at the top. Has the topic of creating 'glass' been covered does anyone know? Love those 50 Olds Bill John -
This is the real car I would have loved to have seen modelled. Ghia L6.4, I dont know if this vehicle has a further designation or name such as the Duel Ghia, but the only 'model' I know of is the Corgi 1/43 die cast toy car, and that is what is written on the base. It looks like the real thing is based on a 1960 Plymouth Fury or other Mopar of this era. As with many here though, would there have been enough interest to model this car? John.

I have a query concerning the 1-1 roof profiles across the whole GM range and models for these years. Hypothetically, If you cut the roof section from any model , lets say 1960 Cadillac Coupe de ville, would it fit onto a Pontiac 2 door model or Chevrolet, Buick, Olds? Would a roof from any 4 door be interchangable with the other GM bodies of the same shape etc. I ask as the real 1-1 vehicles appear to have the same windshields and wind wings? (quarter lights in UK), Just curious but I did think about converting a Revell 59 Cadillac and fitting a Modelhause Chevy flat top roof, though I dont think this is wide enough for the Revell kit.
