  1. This is the real car I would have loved to have seen modelled. Ghia L6.4, I dont know if this vehicle has a further designation or name such as the Duel Ghia, but the only 'model' I know of is the Corgi 1/43 die cast toy car, and that is what is written on the base. It looks like the real thing is based on a 1960 Plymouth Fury or other Mopar of this era. As with many here though, would there have been enough interest to model this car? John.
  2. I have a query concerning the 1-1 roof profiles across the whole GM range and models for these years. Hypothetically, If you cut the roof section from any model , lets say 1960 Cadillac Coupe de ville, would it fit onto a Pontiac 2 door model or Chevrolet, Buick, Olds? Would a roof from any 4 door be interchangable with the other GM bodies of the same shape etc. I ask as the real 1-1 vehicles appear to have the same windshields and wind wings? (quarter lights in UK), Just curious but I did think about converting a Revell 59 Cadillac and fitting a Modelhause Chevy flat top roof, though I dont think this is wide enough for the Revell kit.
  3. Here are a few of mine. Gunze Sango 1959 conversion to 1960 flat top( The car in my avatar ) Another Gunze, this time a 1960 coupe. Next up, first issue AMT Ecto with a Revell grill, it just about fits and does not have the four emergency lights in the centre section. Never really finished this model, hence no flower rails on the roof. Thanks for looking, comments welcome of any sort.
  4. Really neat model, afraid I used mine as a parts source. Interesting your use of solder. You say you buffed it up. Whenever I have tried this it normally dulls down again within a few hrs. Do you use old style lead/tin or a new type? Thanks, John.
  5. Yes welcome from one Englander to another . have to admit I have been a bit dormant myself. Started a Tamaya Hayabusa about 3 years ago then decided to move house but have a lot more to finish hidden away in boxes. Do you visit any contests? Not much happening as far as I know but I am a bit out of touch at the moment. The NSRA swap meet here in Essex is always a good place to pick up a few models, I know they have a meeting in Rotheram or Sheffield too. Anyway, look forward to seeing some great models and ideas. See ya, John
  6. Wish this topic had been started a couple of years back. Can I do a retro post? No pic but I saw in Constable country(Flatford Mill), most unusual, a 1930s Bugatti, one of the larger chassis, on Swiss plates. Never ever seen anything this exotic or valuable since!
  7. Is there an easy way to represent 'fade' graphics as represented on the decals used on todays cars and bikes. That is to say, a pattern fading from black to grey where the colour change happens through the density of dots making up the colours. I am trying to represent a 1/1 decal used on a 2005 Suzuki Hayabusa and building a model of my bike using the Tamiya model Thanks, John
  8. Many thanks, I thought this was probably a single release for the year or year after the car was raced. Sorry it's sold now, got a reasonable price for what a I paid a while back and considering it was partially built. It was not a glue bomb but I always wonder why there are so many large scale models come up for sale partially built. It could have been a very successful race car if it had won! Then again the authorities may still have changed the rules to kill it. Thanks, John
  9. Hi, I have not posted for a while as taking a small break from modelling, mainly due to a new hobby and a new wife But! I have to sell some stuff and one item happens to be my Bandai 1/12 STP racing car. I dont know anything about it but would like to know when this model was issued please. There is nothing on the box except Japanese text so I am a little lost. Many thanks and hope to be posting some models soon, I just need to get started again. John
  10. I think thats actually Louis Bettancourt with the car the Ayala Bros built for him. Anyway, thats great inspiration, not many modellers go for the full fadeaway on the Mercury. I love this and the Sam Barris car. Hope to build my version of this one day. Johnny
  11. Sound a bit kinky that, vacuuming in pantyhose, I usually wear stockings when modelling. OOps , I think you mean put the hose over the vacuum hose
  12. Neat, thanks. If thats to scale the plane must be around 1/144
  13. I have just acquired a 1/12 Red Baron built up kit. It comes with a small skull and is supposed to have a miniature Fokker triplane also. Does anyone know what size the Fokker triplane is? It does not mention the scale on the instruction sheet, or is it a standard 1/72 kit Monogram? Revell? Anyone got a box for this? or a scan? Cheers, Johnny T
  14. I think this thread has gone a little off topic really. But hey! How about that title of the other show mentioned, 'Pawn Stars' Yes we know what Pawn is and we know what 'Porn' is. makes you wonder what is 'Under the counter'
  15. If I see a bargain at a genuine bargain price, I usually pay the price. Ok this is not a model but I had no worries when I 'Picked' a pair of Rayban Wayfarers for £10, I just paid the price as they were as new and would have cost me nearly 10 times that. Yet some would try to get them a bit cheaper. But if they had been £50 and still had the tag on them, yes I suppose I would have tried to get them cheaper. Many buyers of collectables these days of course want everything as cheap as they can get it simply because they wish to maximise profit when selling on the 'bay'. There are some funny fellows on that show though, remember the guy with a field full of junk saying he was going to do up all the motorbikes etc, another would not sell anything that had belonged to his dad. In the uk there was an old farmer that used an aircraft gun turret perspex dome to grow plants under, he was always being pestered for it. Eventually I think he said he would donate it for a suitable replacement if it was to be used on an aircraft.
  16. Chips aren't cheap! £1.50 for 1 cut up potato. Good old David Dickinson, the Liberace of the antiques world
  17. I almost got in on a UK type bargain antique thing called Boot Sale Chalenge. Basically the show goes like this. They get a family to sell possessions for what they can at an outdoor market for secondhand good, not always collectables mind. They then interview some of the buyers and film them making a deal. I spotted a piano accordion I liked and the team moved in on me. I dont know US laws but here they have to ask permission to film you. I refused but they carried on filming. When the deal was done the crew thrust some kind of form in front of me to sign, but I asked how much I would get. Now £10 off the cost of my accordion would surly have been worth it but they would not pay up so off I went. The prize item of the stall over my shoulder and left on the stall? A large collection of reproduction Victorian oil lamps haha. Oh! And just how many times can a guy say that is just so 'COOL' in one show? Cheap TV Rubbish, but if thats what you like to watch, well thats no problem with me. We cant all have the same tastes or life would be so boring wouldn't it
  18. Nice to see a proper Mini instead of the BMW version. Lovely finished(no pun intended) model. J
  19. I used to be a box collector for display, so getting an original kit inside was a bit of a bonus. I now would only build re-issues as there may be someone out there willing to donate to my Hayabusa riding fund(I want a Yoshimura exhaust set up and they cost £££££££) Then again, I had an original Chrysler Turbine from Jo-Han that I built, the re-issue from the 1980s had terrible flash on the chrome to make the parts almost unusable without replating.
  20. I dont have mine anymore but I am sure it must have been Pyro's Cord 810 around 1973. I wanted the Monogram as the box art was better but the Pyro was cheaper. I knew it looked wrong so attempted to correct the hood and cowl but it didnt work out. I hand painted it with white enamel staright over the deep green plastic and it took about a week to dry before I could put more paint on as the green plastic was a nightmare bleeding through. I doubt it lasted long, sacrificing its engine for another project and maybe its wheels. I still have some parts in my parts box from other kits going back to my earliest models but none from the Cord.
  21. 69 Chargers normally come under the Street machine/Muscle car scene. So how about a Muscle Rat, Street Rat, Rat machine etc
  22. What is it with TV these days! I have just watched a tv program caled Chasing Classic Cars. We get it a couple of years down the line I would think, any way, the presenter Wayne Carini brings a car onto an auction plinth, now how many names are fuzzed out. Whats this all about? If someone does not pay to advertise, dont they get the name on the screen? That may be fair but it makes for almost unwatchable tv with all these fuzzy images darting about. I then watched Cafe Racer, the same thing but worse, and to a point comical. The camera focuses on a bike being worked on. The owner describes the bike only as a CB 750 as the name on the tank is fuzzed. Later we see the same bike in the background but the tank badge is visible and a guy behind is wearing a Honda T shirt as he works on another make of bike. Finally we here about a Norton as the man describes his modifications to the bike wears a black T shirt but it's logo 'Norton' is fuzzed up again but just readable. Whats this about? first it famous peoples kids then registration(licence) plates. Any TV producers out there in model land tell me what this all about? J
  23. I would think a set of light bars and some decent wheel covers should sort it other than some hole filling etc. The Monogram Cadillac convert or sedan is good for a few detail parts.
  24. Thanks for putting that up. Was this from the original tool under licence? I never bought one as was too busy getting a sun tan
