  1. First time using wire looms. I could have sunk the distributor lower into the block, ah?
  2. Trying to give the one piece chassis some love. Not completely sure on the traction bar placement.
  3. I found the reddish color I wanted, Krylon, Fire Red. Wheels look good, a little sloppy maybe. The lugs are not as defined as I wanted. I'm still not the panel line master. I use Tamiya accent color all the time, but have a hard time gauging the dosage. Are there cases where a different technique is preferable? Should I thin the panel liner even more from the bottle? A little clean-up and some valve stems. Looks better with tires. If I'm building a race car, I guess the backseat has to go. Ditching the console may be more of a challenge.
  4. Adding some fiddley bits to the engine. Should I paint the distributor? Do I put boots on the wire ends going into the dist. (tight fit)? Where is the carburetor?
  5. Well I'm on my way. May I ask what you used for the roll cage cushions? I'm not sure how to deal with the console. Does the gear shift come straight out of the floor?
  6. Is this how a supercharger is supposed to look? I can't find a decent pic of the real thing that looks anything like this. I guess we are going with it.
  7. Let's say I wanted to replace the alternator...any tips? If I cut of the cylinder thingy, the diameter of the pulley covers all the front detail of the add on piece. I really do not want to reconstruct the belts.
  8. I first notice a significant amount of flash throughout the sprues. Choosing race car wheels. No BMF on this baby. The side molding's gotsta go. A rare chance to get out the Dremel.
  9. Did your kit have the backseat in the tub? If so, did you cut it out? Do you have pics of your interior?
  10. Gonna build me a Mercury! Inspirational pic. I see this rendition posted on the forum. I can only hope to do gami8630's version justice.
  11. I'm really reaching, but I'm going for this... And these showed up today.
  12. Random question: Having not looked at one in years, are modern "Snap-togethers" any more technical than than those years past?
  13. I have a random can of purple paint that's been starring at me for a while. I look at my stash and nothing was saying purple, so why not a Caddy.
  14. Thanks for all the info guys. I have some options on the way.
  15. I found these. I'm still not sure what size to get. I will check out PPP. Thanks.
  16. Then what size to choose? There are multiple options. I could not get a snapshot. These are close to what I want but not quite. Sorry my 1:1 car knowledge is lacking.
  17. How might I run a search for these type of wheels? They are for a '64 Mercury Marauder - AMT 1:25 scale. Do we have favorite vendors for this type of product? Ebay, etc. can be such a rabbit hole. I particularly like the protruding lugs and valve stem. Oh, and tires too. Thanks, Cal
  18. Hi Len, fabulous build. I'm just starting the AMT 1294/12 kit. I don't know any history of the original, but I'm digging the color scheme. Not that I could ever get close to this level of detail, I would like to ask what kit you started with. You mentioned the AMT Ford chassis. Does that include the the suspension and exhaust? My kit does not have the side protruding pipes (way cool). And I love the detail on the steelie wheels. I would welcome any tips you can offer. Thanks, Cal
  19. Looking sharp and shelf-ready. sans decals
  20. That paint job is soooo CRISP!
  21. Gosh! Now I may consider dishing out some dough. In full disclosure, I am not any bit the aficionado in model kit history or the engineering of the real thing as many of you. All these insights are very interesting. As far as the building goes, I welcome a challenge but don't want to bite off too much. I mostly build for myself...and my shelf. I love all the loud colorful decals (not the patience for Rally of NASCAR decals). Also, agreed on the price of the Caddy. Unless it is an actual collectable that may appreciate. PS. When did they start calling them Funny Cars?
  22. Are these good/decent deals? I know a lot of variables. If I do plan on building them are they that nice? I hear so much about Jo-Han kits, but is that just for collecting? Thanks.
