I know you all are waiting to see how this is going to play out. So here is where I'm landing with the seatbelts. I created my own straps from medical tape and blue paint. I think they look good. I had trouble judging the lengths between buckles. I cut holes in the seat sides for a pas-thru. I don't know if I want to shoe the lap belts bolted (cage or floor?) or just tuck them under the seat. Also, what to do with the little pics on plain paper? White glue? -
Kit purchasing questions.

I have yet to build any funny cars, but I will. Yes, I was curious to know if Jo-han kits in general were notably any "better" than the bigger brands. -

Racing Harnesses - How to Does anyone have any insight on assembling these add-ons from Gopher Racing? I'm going with the four-point connection. I've done single belts before, so I have a couple tricks handling the ribbon like shape cuts, burning the finished edges, and a little dark varnish to age and stiffen them up a bit. What I don't see is how the belts get threaded through the different buckles (the stops and starts). All thoughts appreciated. -
I have since lost one to the dreaded CARPET MONSTER.

I miscalculated the angle of the steering column. The hole is too low. I forgot about the fact that I cut away the pedals. Do I really want to send away for pedals? I have some Hurst shifters on the way. Is this model year to early for Hurst parts? Or, I may just go with a stick pin if I can find a good one. I tried to fake some rivets on the dash plate. I having a good time with this one.

More time in the tub. I gave the interior a more consistent color. I gave the roll cage some touches. I cut a piece of styrene to simulate a sheet metal dash. Some online searches gave me some cool gauges and switches. I'm only using one seat, why are there two in the kit? They do have different heights...?

I mentioned in another thread some issues I had getting the tires right. My attempt at a misting of dullcote ended up in a fur coat. I did all I'm goin to to clean them up. But while in the process, I lost a decal. Of coarse. So I purchased more, all good. I applied the new decals to one side. They are a bit larger then the kits'. Question is...Do I redo the other side or leave as is when only I will know? Hmm.

Hello all passersby. I have not posted in a month, but there has been some marauding going on. (sorry, had to) The tub is coming together. I'm throwing in more detail as I go. Part of the fun, right? To reiterate, I've done very little kit mods in my time. I'm happy how the floor looks so far. And I'm determined to... Build Me a Mercury! (ok, I'll stop) So, roll cage. the instructions were not clear where the 'L' shaped piece went. So I just went for it. The kit did not come with the back struts, so I just went for it. I began to modify the dash.

I'm working on the same car as we speak. I would enjoy hearing more about making the interior believable by modifying the dash and cage. Paint is not finished. FYI

I'm wondering where to go with the tub from here. I have a harness set on the way and I want to do some kind of actual padding on the roll cage. But what about the dash? And the seats are at different heights. I'll only be using one. I'm not finding a lot of inspiration on the web.

If I'm going to pay $6 S/H on a $7 purchase (some PE thingy), I may as well throw in a couple kits for a nominal shipping increase to make it worth while...Right?

Tire Finishes- I purchased aftermarket tires and wheels, applied the decals and then a light shot of Testors Dullcoat. They looked really good. After a bit the dullcoat started to flake off. Since I already had the wheels in, I brushed on Vallejo Matte Finish. That gives off an almost fuzzy look. I'm afraid to use any solvents because I can't loose the decals. It is not a show stopper, just wonder about remedies and/or other techniques to add realism to the tires. Thanks in advance.

I found the reddish color I wanted, Krylon, Fire Red. Wheels look good, a little sloppy maybe. The lugs are not as defined as I wanted. I'm still not the panel line master. I use Tamiya accent color all the time, but have a hard time gauging the dosage. Are there cases where a different technique is preferable? Should I thin the panel liner even more from the bottle? A little clean-up and some valve stems. Looks better with tires. If I'm building a race car, I guess the backseat has to go. Ditching the console may be more of a challenge.

Adding some fiddley bits to the engine. Should I paint the distributor? Do I put boots on the wire ends going into the dist. (tight fit)? Where is the carburetor?

Well I'm on my way. May I ask what you used for the roll cage cushions? I'm not sure how to deal with the console. Does the gear shift come straight out of the floor?
