My friend put 400,000 miles on a '79. These are cool cars. The green will look good. To avoid bare/light spots in the flocking I use the same color paint as the flocking. I do a section at a time to avoid dry spots. White glue works well, but may leave the underlying color visible(primer or body color).
If you want an original looking paint job, remember they weren't very smooth from the factory. All of the cars had orange peel back then. If you're weathering the exterior, it won't matter much in the long run if you sand it. 🪙🪙
I like mocking them up to see if I like the direction I've started in. Wheel/tire combo, stance, fit, overall "attitude" of the build.
