They are decals. I'm hoping they cover well, if not I'll order a 2nd set. That is not one I'd want to try to mask off!

1972 Mercury Montego GT master for casting
Iraceitall replied to Repstock's topic in WIP: Model Cars
So cool. I had a 73 Gran Torino Sport, similar car, and once I saw one of these I fell in love. I'm gonna have to build one, it's a dream car of mine. I need to find a 73 nose for the 72 GTS kit as well. -
Got a little more done, managed to lay some red down, Krylon Short Cuts Pepper Red looks decent. Started some assembly, but it's nice out, so going to set this aside until next week when the weather turns. At least it's got color!

Thank you!

Almost have everything painted, I used Rustoleum 2x semi gloss black, it took a full week to dry, not using it again. Terrible coverage. Cage is just sitting on the chassis so I could detail paint it some. Got my tires and wheels done too. I still need to do some more detailing, and if the weather keeps up ill get color on the body in a day or two.
-
Body is painted, my lighting isn't the best but it's got 5 coats of white enamel. Grille is in. Next is detail painting, decals, and glass.

The search is on for a cheap El Camino to raid the nose from. I've got a couple LeMans on the shelf, I'll see what transpires. I still like the MPC 1981 grill better, but probably going to have to modify a Monogram one, as well as the bumper. If I ever get the courage to do it I'll make a WIP. Thanks everyone for the suggestions!

Buddy Arrington Chassis Question

A friend of mine did the same on a 57 Studebaker pickup with a 360. -
Buddy Arrington Chassis Question

All the Aspen/Volare/Diplomat/5th Avenue/Mirada/Imperial shared that setup, it's a good swap for a hot rod or custom too. I've seen a few 40s and 50s cars and trucks done that way. -
Buddy Arrington Chassis Question
Iraceitall replied to Iraceitall's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
The longitudinal torsion bars ended with the 79-81 R-Body St Regis and Newport, these cars (J-Body) were stock with the cross torsion bars like the 76-up Dodge Aspen. My hunch was these were cut down ex-Petty cars, there's just so little out there about it. Thanks for the info! -
Rahmoc Racing light blue?
Iraceitall replied to Iraceitall's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Thanks, will do. The big bummer is my nearest hobby shops are 100 miles away, I'm in a smaller rural town. I do have access to automotive paint though, and they can put it in aerosol for me. -
I've seen those as well. The bummer is they're 1/25. I really want to do this as a 1/24. I reached out to Jim Rogers, to see if they would ever do one, he did mention asking Luka Cee about doing a nose, like he did for the BGN Grand-Am one he made. Like I said, I can figure out the 1/4 windows if there was at least a nose available.
-
This is probably where I'll try. I'll use a Salvinos Lemans, rework the 1/4 windows, and use a Monogram El Camino grill as a start.
-
I was going to graft the nose to a Salvinos Lemans. The grill just looked closest to the NASCAR version to me. If someone could just make a nose to fit that body, the rear windows could be modified easily enough. I'd love to have it 1/24 since I prefer the Monogram chassis.

Rahmoc Racing light blue?
Iraceitall replied to Iraceitall's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Yeah. That Frost Blue looks really close too. -
I have not found a definitive answer, and I may still just go curbside anyway, but does anyone know if Arrington and guys like Negre and Cecil Gordon had to use torsion bars and leafs under their Miradas and Imperials or if they got to use a Banjo or similar chassis?
-
Anyone got an idea of what light blue Rahmoc Racing used around 1981-82? I'd love to do a Lemans as a #75 Gary Balough but stumped on the color? Is it maybe a Lucerne blue? The closest I think might be 79 Pontiac Light Blue, but I want to get as close as I can...
-
In the up close of the car in the video, it's black, which is more definitive than anything I've found. I'm not trying to 100% perfectly replicate that pictured car, the available decal sheet doesn't quite either. It'll be more like the restored version he currently owns. In some pictures it has the five hole wheels, in others the 10, I chose the fives because I like them. Maybe this is more tribute than replica I guess?

Reminds me of an old Redline Hot Wheels Custom T-Bird. Now I'm inspired to find one.
-
Perhaps could someone print or cast just a nose (header panel/grille/bumper)? The MPC 1981 ElCamino looks right although 1/25, but I can't find a grill and bumper without buying and wrecking a whole promo or kit. I was hoping to find something that could be grafted onto the Salvinos LeMans maybe?
-
There is a company called Gasoline Alley Toys that does quite a few reproduction parts and decals. The Squad 51 decals I found on ebay.
-
Cage is semi-assembled for paint and bumpers glued to the body. I had to straighten the frame from a slight warp and I swapped in a dash from the Ford kits because it looked more like the one in the YouTube video. The chassis will be black, body I think Duplicolor GM Torch Red.

While primer is drying on my 'Bird and its too cold for my full size race car, I thought I'd start another. This is the car that brought me back. Stapleton42 on YouTube did a video at Ronnie Thomas's shop and he had this car in it. I thought it was so cool I had to build one, which snowballed into my return to the hobby. I'm starting with an Earnhardt Wrangler Grand Prix from the Monogram combo kit with the 5 hole wheels from a T-Bird, and decals from Slot Car Fever.
