  1. David, your dad probably had a couple of these, the Stinson 108 Station Wagon. It was a very good plane too. Stinson built strong airframes although they were relatively slow.
  2. Thanks to everyone for all the kind words. @TarheelRick Yes it was a complicated mask job and I had to lift and replace a lot of tape before it looked right. I’m also retired Air Force so here’s to you! ?
  3. When I seriously got back into modeling after I retired a few years ago I wanted to build a replica of the aircraft my dad restored in the late 1950s for the owner. It is a Stinson V-77 which was a military variant of the Reliant series built in the 1930’s and 40’s. The first picture was taken in about 1960 with my father leaning on the prop. I flew with him many times in this airplane until it was sold in the mid 60’s. I built the model using the 1/48 AMT Stinson reliant and cowling from the AMT Beech Stagger wing. The windshield was scratch built from clear plastic and the copilot side door was sealed the cowling from the beech was reshaped to include the oil cooler scoop and fixed cowl flap at the rear. It was then airbrushed white and then masked for the blue and sprayed. After polishing I applied the home made N number decals and coated it with 3 coats of pledge floor coating. I had to also modify the wing struts so that the wings had dihedral instead of drooping anhedral. I think it resulted in a close replica.
  4. What a fantastic piece of art, no wonder it’s in a museum!
  5. You asked why the big block corvettes had the braided plug wires. I think it’s because there was not enough room to run the side chrome ignition shielding behind the back of the block and heads like they did with the small blocks. Instead they just shielded the wires themselves. The first pic is of my 73 big block which has the same engine compartment as a 74. The second is of a 72 small block I had a while ago. You can see the difference in the shielding. I love your color choices and all the extra working features and detailing.
  6. This is my first WIP post on the forum. My current build started with an already built Monogram 1/12 67 Corvette 427 coupe I found on eBay for cheap. I also had other partial and full kits of this model and a 1/12 57 Chevy half built kit for the engine.i like to recycle old built kits I decided to try and make it into a convertible with a 327 and the small block hood. I started by cutting off the coupe section of the body and replacing it with sheet plastic and cutouts of the rib that runs down the rear deck including where the gas cap goes I also filled in the hole in the hood to make it the correct shape it took two layers of the plastic and the ribbed cutouts and lots of sanding and filling for the back deck.. I then built a 327/350 hp engine using the block , heads, exhaust, valve covers, bell housing and 4spd transmission from the 57 Chevy kit. I had to piece together a 4 barrel intake and ignition shielding from the 427. I made the air cleaner from various junk parts then painted and foiled the appropriate parts. I’m still trying to decide what colors to paint the body and interior. Tell me your favorite color combos.
  7. This will be a beautiful car when finished in your custom mix blue. I am on the Agora email list and have always wanted to try one of their kits but just haven’t wanted to spring for that much money. I like big scale and have six 1/12 scale diecast in my collection. I’m currently building the Monogram 1/12 67 427 Corvette coupe but converting it to a 327 convertible. I need to post a WIP thread on it. I am looking forward to seeing your finished GTO!
  8. Your color choices, detail and painting are outstanding. Super nice build.
  9. Thanks everyone for the kind comments. More pics have been added.
  10. Very nice design with very clean bodywork, paint and detail.
  11. Thank you all for the kind words. Yes Marty the Mako Shark is my favorite too and I wish I hadn’t sold it. I ran out of room and decided to sell some models on ebay and put it on there at a price that I thought no one would pay. Of course someone bought it. I still have my original MPC Mako Shark that I built 30 years ago but the cartoon version I built exaggerates the style perfectly.
  12. I’ve modified several of these cartoon vettes into other versions of real cars. This is the stock version, just a snap model with the front end approximately 1/32 scale and it transforms to 1/25 scale at the rear. The first one I made into a Motion Performance Phase 3. I grafted on the phase 3 hood and put a chrome blower on,added tail lights and Motion decals and paint scheme. The next one is a Mako Shark 2 made from a 1/32 Aurora and MPC 1/25 Mako kits. I grafted them together and used centers from 1/16 and 1/32 knockoff wheels. The last one is a replica of an L88 A Production race car. I converted it from a coupe to convertible with hardtop, flared the fenders, added L88 hood and painted it and used decals from the 1/25monogram version of the model. IMG_0792.mov
  13. Beautiful work!
  14. Great looking galaxy, love the color.
  15. Great looking model. Your paint skills are outstanding.
  16. Hi everybody, built my first model airplane at age of 4 (with dad’s help) and now I’m turning 70 this year. I got into model cars in 1965 and have been building both cars and planes since then. I spent 21 years flying in the Air Force and 22 years flying Boeings, good ones, in the airlines. I’ve modeled on and off through the years and now that I’m retired have been consistently building for the last five years. I love corvettes and American muscle/race cars and my latest project is converting a monogram 1/12 ‘67 corvette 427 coupe into a 327 convertible. I will post a WIP with pictures soon. Glad to be here and want to learn from you guys as much as I can. Scott
