I patiently cut away with a sharp hobby blade the unwanted trim followed by filling down the remaining volume trying not to attack the surfaces they sit on. Proven difficult to do so, I feel it went ok for a first attempt. If I was to do it again to limit affecting the surrounding areas further I would try a chisel type tool which I don’t have currently or a small dremel bit which I forgot I had amongst the excitement.

@MarkJ I used the smallest I could find, I believe they are used for table top gaming figures like warhammer and board games, dioramas etc. N52 being the strongest magnet rating, 2x1mm. https://www.greenstuffworld.com/en/neodymium-magnets-n52/2568-neodymium-magnets-2x1mm-100-units-n52.html @absmiami Love it! Thanks for sharing. @Brudda Thank you!

I went ahead and built the entire kit so it can stand upright with it´s body on. I will adjust the rear wheel offset accordingly and use the extra set of wheels the kit came with as it will match the reference more. The tires will need to be bored out slightly to have the wheels fit. I will most definitely fuse the hood to the fenders and cut it out as a clamshell. Bodyside trim removal will be first.

A few weekends ago I attended a national model competition / exhibition at which they announced next years theme. Tri - Five Chevy. The all business no fuss inspiration vehicle which immediately entered my mind when next year´s theme was announced was a sure thing. I know nothing about Gassers or Chevy´s but I love this car and enjoyed it´s development on Motor Trend over the years. All of roadkill’s content for that matter! I am undertaking something I am not comfortable or proficient at doing which is removing unwanted trim from a vehicle. I have been stocking up on materials and information online.

I went onto drilling 1.8mm wide holes for the strong but tiny 2x1mm N52 gaming magnets I decided I want to have holding the rear clamshell together. I placed them into the recently filled gaps that were created from the large rear fenders which I filled. It all worked out fine, I will need some help closing the gap along the roofline. It might get solved when I mount the hinge wire and permanently fix the clamshell hinges which will limit the movement. I never done any of these processes as removing bonnet pins, separating body panels, using magnets ( in this scale ) but always admired those that could / willed to. It is very exciting to do, 20 years later!

Spent a good hour trial and error masking the rear lamps until I was satisfied with the line. This is some of first times I am experiencing success with masking. I am very pleased. I glued in all the windows, lamps, and applied more decals. -
Dual Fuel tanks sprayed gloss black and fused into chassis. Misted Tamiya primer onto the two main body parts and began to close the hole / gap made visible between the wide fender flairs and main body with puddy. I will work on removing mold seams lightly as I’ve done the medicore hood pins / latches and try to avoid any fine scratch left.

Rally fever. I’m thinking of opening up the boot lid and hinging the doors on this one. Would be a first for me. Oh and simulate the actual car Colin rolled on this rally and continued travelling 10/10ths completing the event.

@niteowl7710 nice finds. What are kit prices like now in person? Cash I presume? From a person or a registered hobby shop?

I further test and mocked up more accurately how the front lamp will sit in the body. The lens is not finished yet. Note the scale in the photo with the Q tip and foglamp reflector. I am really excited by how it will look. I find you don’t see many going through the effort of doing lamps. In a lineup of cars it’ll drastically stand out. For the better in my opinion! I’ve also soldered it to a battery box to test that a physical switch works. Next will be soldering all the lamps together with their respective resistors and see how it works with a remote. -
@MarkJ Thank you. That’s funny I never thought of the way you described it. No it’s no photo tricks and no it’s not me either! It was just found inspiration references I’m aiming for or inspired by for now. I wish I was that clever! Thanks for the encouragement! @Pierre Rivard I am going for a mix of Both. It will be a single colour race car. Like modern day Lister Bell replica builds. Some days I wake up thinking about the Aitalia and other liveries to help aid my lack of final top coat skills but for now the citrus plan I’m sticking to! Thanks for the encouragement!

I had a strike of luck with how the window trim turned out. Never had it turn out this good I first tried hand brushing it with a XF paint. Awful results. I cleaned for 30 minutes with X20A. Got great results with New tape, new blade, new paint and a new can of TS Flat black. I used a new product AK crystal magic for bonding the clear parts quickly and well. It will be a new favourite. The kit comes with a few trees of unused parts for the different variants they released. I mistakenly did an incorrect wrong rear window, will return with the correct rear window and move onto lamps and finally some light weathering! -
I preliminary decided on going with a yellow colour. More lemon then orange. I will test a yellow primer, Tamiya TS, and maybe airbrush a XF-3, Amarillo Soleado by Vallejo as I have all of them and I have ambitions of becoming airbrush proficient. I aim to ‘road weather‘ the finish so I may avoid any gloss coat obsessing as I’ve always done.

Paint went on ok. Sadly of course with some setbacks - lines aren’t perfect and the liquid mask attacked the clear some places more then others. Nothing comes easy in this hobby. I’ll try another method next time. It’ll be the first 1:24 model l will complete in 20 years after all. Onward and upward. I began gluing on some details. -
Project materials and a holy grail kit for me in 1:12 scale.

@Rich Chernosky Hi! Thank you. No I didn’t pickup the detail up kit.. This kit was an unplanned purchase that was too good to pass up on auction locally. I have some detail up kits for future builds but I always struggled with justifying extra content for a kit as the base kit will be littered with mistakes, accidents and material expiration ?? against my will of course. I masked the rest of the body and shot flat black by Vallejo. -

I tried to mask the complex lines twice and simply did not have the confidence to continue with the method. I will try painting these areas with with liquid mask.
