For the gauges I drilled a hole for each gauge, then cut the pictures of the gauges from the kit package cardboard (they were quite the right size), glued them to the back of the dash and covered the holes with gloss lacquer to make the gauges look more realistic. The bezels were made of 0,25 mm metal wire. They are not perfect but good enough for me.

Thanks. I also had trouble with the exhaust pipes, but after some sanding of the pipes’ top end grooves and using some power they finally settled in to the locator points in the engine. That was actually the only part of the kit that did not fit like a piece of cake. The windshield in my kit was scratched so I had to build it from thin clear plastic. Fortunately the frame was in the kit, couldn’t scratch build that.

Very clean work and perfect, not so common, colour for the period.

Perfect, the car and the build.

Designed by Ferdinand Porsche the Mercedes-Benz SSK was a roadster built in years 1928 to 1932. A total of 33 SSKs were built during its production span, of which about half were sold as racing cars (Wikipedia). This Lindberg kit is originally from 1966 and the one I built a reboxing from 2006 (Scalemates). The kit itself was of good quality. According to reference pictures the real car didn´t have whitewall tires which the kit strangely had. Exterior color (inspired by member Joe Lange) is automotive paint, interior Tamiya XF-93, dashboard is Vallejo woodgrain and clear orange and most of the chrome is Alclad.

Very nice! The headlights look amazingly realistic.

I would pick the AMT because of the body style (Sport Coupe, no A-pillar), so this is just personal preference. I also recommend buying the photo etch detail set from Model Car Garage in case the kit doesn´t include photo etch parts. I have built the so called Custom Culture Series version and have the AMT/Ertl Pro Shop version in the stash. Both do have photo etch parts included. Whatever you choose the result will be a fifties icon!

Had to try the new C8 in the snowy winter roads. Exterior painted in the original Riptide Blue metallic. Tamiya TS-40 Black Metallic (which is very close to the original Carbon flash metallic) was used in the exterior black parts, wheels etc. Everything clear coated with Tamiya LP-9. Didn´t bother painting the tail lights and some other small bits. Everything went together smoothly in the new Revell kit although margins were quite small.

As previous members have said, absolutely great micro-engineering! Have you by any chance seen the real thing in the BMW museum in Munich? I had an opportunity to visit the museum last summer and as I was following your thread in another forum I of course had this in mind when visiting.
