This is the sleeper from my "Movin On" Kenworth. As you can see, the primer is showing through around the door and the roof. I'm using Tamiya fine white primer and Tamiya Racing green. Both out of the can. I'm warming the cans in hot water and shaking the heck out of them. I start with a few mist coats, and let them tack up between them. I'm also painting in 70 degrees. I've got a second sleeper that I'm going to try painting. Would it make sense to spray a flat green after the primer, before the gloss color? Any thoughts or tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Frank

Here's a '69 Camaro grille that I hollowed from the rear. I used my dremel with a sanding roll. Frank

Very nice work. One of the cleanest Nova models I've seen in a while. Frank

I'm just curious to see what everyone else has built for either of these trucks. I've got the original AMT "Movin On" model. As most of us know it's not accurate for either the series or the pilot (In Tandem). The kit is a cross between the 2. I'm using the Revell W-800 kit which has the correct double sleeper, and is the correct model W-800 vs. W-925. The w-800 kit has a few things that aren't accurate, but the truck is still a better starting point. The Revell kit has the wrong rear suspension and it has a V-8 instead of the NTC 350 Cummins the actual truck had. I'm pretty sure someone makes the correct stripes for the double sleeper version, though. The sleeper "spears" are longer and the sleeper stripes need to be longer to wrap around. I've got the AMT "BJ and the Bear" model, and the AMT "generic" version. The first noticeable problem is that the frame is way too long on both versions. The other obvious problem is the decals. Seriously...Dry transfer???...lol. I'm hoping there's a better set of decals for this one, too... Frank

I bought a W900 kit off ebay a few years ago that didn't have any instructions, and containes one partially built model and one unbuilt, but many parts removed from the trees. I'm not certain who even made the truck. It has an air bag rear suspension, double sleeper and a V-8 engine. It's molded in silver, gray, tan and chrome plated. The partially built chassis has long fuel tanks, but the one's on the trees are shorter. The 2 chassis look pretty similar, though. How many different companies made the w900 kits with double sleepers? Anyone have the instruction sheets for any of them? Thanks, Frank

I like it. The decals look awesome. Just curious...Isn't that a Peterbilt sleeper? I thought Kenworth sleepers had square door corners and the Pete sleepers were the rounded type? Frank -
I used flat styrene sheet for the floor and firewall. I'm using the kit door panels and VERY modified dash. The tubs are from the Monogram Reher Morrison/STP/Pennzoil/Frank Iaconio/White Lightning/Mean and Nasty Pro stock kit. The other pieces are made from sheet aluminum that I formed and polished. Frank

I know about all the negative chatter about Reliable Resin. In fact, I've had my issues with Don in the past. In an effort to let bygones be bygones, I decided to order one of his "2006" Camaro Pro Mod bodies. I've ordered several resin bodies from various sources throughout the years, and have never been real impressed with any of them. Most are sitting in a pile in the corner...lol. After receiving this body, I must say that I'm glad I gave Don another chance. His work on this is really nice. You can tell that it's based on the AMT Camaro, but the nose, front wheel openings and rockers have all been reworked. It also comes with a seperate cowl hood and rear wing. i sat down with this thing earlier, and in less than 2 hours, I had it ready for primer. It really didn't need alot of work. Most of the time was spent opening up the windows. the only issue I really noticed with it was that it has a large "glob" of resin in the front, lower grille opening. I'm going to open up the opening anyway, so it wasn't a real big deal. These pictures were taken about an hour and a half after I started on it. It's sitting on a die cast Cavalier Pro Stock chassis. I really hate doing body work!...LOL. Most know that the AMT "06" Camaro is based off the concept car. The actual production car has a traditional gas filler door on the passenger side quarter panel. Since this model is a "Pro Street", It will use a fuel cell. To accomplish this, I wanted to fill the hole that the kit has on the top drivers side quarter for the concepts placement of the gas filler door. I also filled the wiper holes and the mirror holes. I've pinned down the color I want it...It's HOK "Orion Silver" with HOK clear. I'm still looking for a good way to do the stripes. I originally wanted the HOK "Pavo Purple" to match the chassis cage, but I can't find a way to make the thin border stripes around the main stripes. i had Keith Marks make me a set of custom purple decals, but they reacted badly to my HOK (and other) clear coat. I photocopied a set of his decals on Testors photo paper, but the ink ran when I put them in water. I tried it again, but I clear coated them before cutting them from the sheet and submerging them. Here's one of my tests... Frank

Very nice build. A great tribute to 2 greats that we have lost...Lee Shepherd and Buddy Morrison. -
LOL...if the new motor is still too much power, you could always consider a Ford engine...LOL Frank

Scratchbuilt Struts for Drag cars
camarobuilder replied to Dragline's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
I used RB Motion coil over spring and seats for mine. The rest is aluminum tubing. I recently talked to an aftermarket machinist that MAY start making aluminum struts in 1/25-1/24 scale, if there's enough interest. Frank -
The short and 3 piece spoilers were BOTH available on the Z and SS from 1970 to 1973...As were the RS option which included split bumpers, relocated turn signals, and a longer rubber nose and a different grille. Frank

Here's a picture of the first set of prototype machined aluminum valve covers from Jonny Taylor (JB Hobbies). I'm having him make a second set with a few changes. They will be polished to resemble the real covers. I've got a bunch of stuff ready to send to Chrome Tech for the engine. I've been putting a little time into the body. I'm using the AMT body that I've been modifying. It now has a removeable front end, filled "mail slot", filled gas filler, filled mirror and wiper holes. I hate this part of any build the most. I'm not real good with filler, but I think this turned out OK. I think the front end looks better without the "mail slot"... Frank
