Tamiya McLaren MP4/6 1/12 (Top Studio)

That's my plan. I had considered a shop type display with the engine off the tub but that makes for a big footprint. The cowling and front wing will be sitting next to the car. I want to see all that detail. Eye watering was my reaction. I don't do that many models so I treated myself. Next up is a Model Factory Hiro with similar cost and complexity. Stepping away gives me time to get over the mistakes. Seeing the completed work softens those blows as well. I'm very pleased with the result. Thanks all for the kind comment! -
Top marks! You can drop the mike.

"What's she selected this time?" Something out there I'm sure. Nice build and as always, a wonderful presentation.

Nice finish on the paint. Bummer about the engine cover. The color suits the car and is an excellent finish. I like it!

65 IMPALA PRO-TOURING: what to do of an unexpected gift?
JCH replied to Claude Thibodeau's topic in Model Cars
Super cool resto-mod. Joe Martin would be proud of the stance. Excellent panel lines on the hood. I'm thinking there was some time spent getting that so well aligned. What's up with the photoshop on the grill and front end? Great build. -
Hey all - Time to call this one a wrap. It's not perfect, but what is? Thankfully I'm please with the result. The Tamiya kit is excellent. The Top Studio aftermarket detail kit is phenomenal. Ridiculously complicated but beautifully instructed with spectacular parts. It's a beast, but highly recommended. Thanks for looking. All good in PA!

Love the car, love the color. Super clean build. Well done!

Nice build. You got the seat cloth right!!! What year? A buddy of mine had an '85. He put both of us into a barrier. It was never the same. Again, nice build.
-
Hot Wheels anyone? Love it!
-
I HAD to look when I saw the subject. As folks have stated, not something you see every day. Again, I like it!

Top marks. 1st prize. Grand prize. Super clean. Beautiful panel lines. Tires are gorgeous. Color looks period correct. I wanted one in high school. Awesome build!

Love it! Super cool presentation.

Cool car. I want one! Nice clean finish, well done.

Cool restomod. As stated the stance is perfect! The engine bay is a treat. I just wish the metallic paint had a better scale. You've got a beautiful finish, don't get me wrong, but the flex in the paint to my eye is to large. Super build!

Miles per gallon or gallons per mile? I really like the two tone. That's a keeper.
-
My grandfather had a Galaxy. "Floor it Gramps, floor it!" Nice build.
-
Nice clean build. Not a fan of the yellow, but it suits the car. Really nice panel lines, the tonneau roof is spot on, and the engine bay the gem you want to see when you pop the hood. Super build!

@4knflyin If you followed Top Studio's instruction to cut the front bulkhead, then remove 1 mm or so of material from either cut end. The replacement Top Studio plate pushes the nose forward making fitting the nose to the cowling, the most important joint in the model, impossible. I also had to shave the interior of the nose to seat properly. Thankfully the underside of the nose is black and can be easily brush painted. Best of luck. If you have question, I'll do my best to respond! -

Looks like its time for a new build. If I can find a Ready For Inspection section on the site I'll post the glamor shots in that location. Thanks for looking. -

Say goodbye. Most of this will never be seen again. Sniff, sniff. I did have to take the floor off after this pic. The orange aero parts in the rear suspension was not seated correctly. Thankfully it all went back together without incident. I'm working on the punch list. I realized I still have to add the Top Studio "braces" from the engine block that hold the floor. That's some fiddley work. -

Floor work: I decided to put a few laps on the floor. For the most part I'm pleased. Exhaust manifolds installed (finally!). Tamiya provides a temporary part to set the height of the exhaust tips. They line up perfectly with the floor. The floor has since been installed. I need to get a pic! Cowling decals: I gloss coated (Zero 2K) Friday evening. It was not without issue, so sanding and polishing will be required. While waiting for this to cure I've compiled a punch list of work to complete as well as bit to fix. The O2 lines to the exhaust manifold are proving to be a PITA! -

@4knflyin - First, thank you for the kind words. I really don't know if I'm double dipping, but I'm trying foster modeling on this side of the pond. Regarding the stencil, of the 30+ reference pictures of the actual car(s) I have accumulated from multiple sources, there's only one with the Calsonic stencil on the radiators. So I choose to think it was not in place for the June 5 Canadian GP. The pic is from Formula Perfect Manual Series Vol. 2. Outstanding reference if you ever decide to build the MP4/6. On a side note, I do want a resin 3D printer!!! -

Engine installed. Dry fitting the floor in this shot. Thankfully, while snug, there's alignment. Radiator work of late. Some vague alignments but I've been able to get the pipes seated to my satisfaction.
