  1. Lovely sentiment, lovely build. For those of us who will never attempt, let alone achieve, the disciplined artistry of Factory Stock modeling, a replica conversion executed to this standard has to be acknowledged as indeed a tremendous tribute.
  2. All those fine, fine. super fine details are adding up. It's definitely Got The Look. Love how the rear rolled pan extends to meet the ends of the frame. The exhaust work, of course, gives it a slick and modern touch that perfectly compliments the tubbed and in the weeds style resulting from the Willys frame. Looking forward to seeing some more details on those running boards... Are those posable front wheels I see?
  3. A beautiful build with an awesome color combo that's just right for this car! Bravo!
  4. Both the 1:1 and the model are lookin' great. How did you match the "Stromy Monday" decals on the model with your 1:1?
  5. Nice model of one of the coolest cars ever! And the price can't be beat, that's for sure. They are Italian plates. MI is for Milano (Milan).
  6. Beautiful reworking of this model. Nice approach to both the 3-window conversion and the rear area of the chassis. What are your plans for the front end? With another one of these on my to-do list I'll be watching your progress with great interest.
  7. Nice commentary on the period. And another super model. Your builds are all great concepts that have tremendous life and character - it doesn't hurt that they're beautifully executed, either. Once again, two thumbs up!
  8. All your carefrul work is paying off. This is gonna be a beautiful model when completed. I would proudly display it next to mr plastic models.
  9. Maybe it's the larger scale or all the little detail parts, but I think this build brings out all the best elements in your style. The paint job is beeooootifullll. And the color scheme is a knockout. I know it's not a car, but I think this might be your best so far that you've posted (we'll see... but that's saying a lot given what's come before).
  10. Very cool paint job. You guys are sure livin' the life. I went to Speedwayphoto.net. It is WAY COOL!!!
  11. Thanx for the blow by blow on the parts used. I'll have to remember the Revell '48 Ford. Nice details. I use a lot of stuff from RepMin and from The Parts Box. Both companies give excellent service and make first rate stuff, much of it quite unique and very useful if you build Old School.
  12. Excellent correction of all that's frustrating about the Goodguy's '32. Great contemporary/retro build, very well executed. Where did you get the hairpins? Also, the fuel pump/breather detail is really superb. Again, what are the sources for the basic parts you used?
  13. For the example you showed above the tool Pete indicates is probably best for the job. Last Christmas I was given 2" Mini Hold and Fold from the Small Shop ( http://thesmallshop.com/index.php?main_pag...;products_id=17 ). It's still not super cheap at $29.99 but it's totally changed my attitude to bending p/e parts. You can make straight, crisp, repeatable bends and it's very precise and beautifully made. The most popular photo-etch bending tool is the Etch Mate 3C from Mission Models ( https://www.missionmodels.com/product.php?p...=313&page=1 ). It's designed for a larger range of sizes but it's much more expensive at $59.99. It's made of a high strength composite and some reviews I have read claim that it doesn't fold bends as crisply as machined metal tools. Here a pic: The folks at Small Shop make a wide range of these tools in various sizes ( http://thesmallshop.com/index.php?main_pag...dex&cPath=2 ), all of them made of machined aluminum. If they are like my Mini Hold and Fold they are exquisitely made. I hope this info is of some help. B.
  14. Superb! I think you'll find that there are plenty of us THAT are interested!
  15. I always look forward to your builds. Always so impeccably executed and they look so right! This is another great one! Thanx for sharin'.
  16. I've got too!. It's probably my all-time favorite Deuce roadster. It's so pretty it hurts! BTW, I've never seen a modern replica or any color pics, but apparently it was purple!
  17. THis came out very nice indeed! Looks like you have another technique to add to your arsenal. I absolutely love the stance and the tire/wheel choice (especially with the spare sitting there) and the contrast between "clean" and "rust". Great little engine, too. Two thumbs up, Fletch!
  18. Thanx for all the kind words, everyone. It looks real nice to my eyes, too, but actually I failed to be aggressive enough in things like how much bellypan I showed below the body line, the amount of rake I put on it, and how low the car sat. All those things were a good deal more conservative than I would have wanted. But I was committed to a quick build so I just worked with the results from my initial steps. Here’s a pic of the Longman roadster from 1952 which was my inspiration. As you can see it’s way lower and more radical looking than this build. Maybe later this year I’ll get around to building a version of it based on the Revell 1/25 Goodguys ’32. Even though the 1/24 version suffers greatly from an ultra-low parts count it actually has some very nice details, like the windshield, the louvered hood panels, the exhaust system, and the interior upholstery design. Unfortunately the engraving is very shallow and weak and when you do any bodywork you’re always risking sanding out details. Also, the dashboard is pretty funky, the suspension details generally horrible (although the backing plates are very nice, as is the basic front axle) and, of course, it doesn’t come with a separate chassis (!). FYI, the interior has been reproduced in resin for the 1/25 by Replicas & Miniatures of Maryland as their Tuck & Roll interior for the Goodguys roadster. And Norm hinted to me that he just might be making a louvered hood set for the 1/25 based on the ex-Monogram 1/24 hood panels. If he does, they will sell like hotcakes! Those tires are from The Parts Box out of Australia ( http://www.thepartsbox.com/ , part number 754 - Tyres X 4 Awesome Bigs & Littles For Hot Rods) and they are very nice indeed. They were definitely “the tail that wagged the dog†and may have subconsciously driven me to a more conservative overall look and for sure influenced my color choice. But they sure look great with those chrome reversed rims! Unfortunately they are strictly 1/24 scale parts and in fact the wheels from the 1/24 roadster kit are actually very slightly undersized compared to these tires. You must use The Parts Box backing plates made for these tires (part number 199 - Wheel Back X 4 Early Ford). I landed up having to glue the wheel centers to the Parts Box backing plates since the wheels don’t actually make contact with the tires. I don’t have any other wheels that even come close to fitting. It’s too bad because they have a lovely cream colored patina to the whitewalls, great contrast between the big ‘n’ little sizes, and have excellent tread and sidewall detail. They look so cool that I’m definitely dropping The Parts Box a line about the problem I had in the hopes that I can find a future solution. Nevertheless, I would probably check out Modelhaus’s Nostalgic Street Rod tires ( http://www.modelhaus.com/index.php?y=&...p;Submit=Search ) for similar items, even though their sidewalls are much whiter than these. I’ve certainly never seen anything like them as parts from a kit.
  19. From Model Roundup Online's Coming Soon page: http://www.modelroundup.com/comingsoon.html Eleven releases from Revellogram, and twenty-five from AMT/MPC/Polar Lights. Most are re-issues. The much anticipated new-tool Revellogram Deuce 5-window has no date assigned top it as yet (TBA 2009). 20. Very nice. Real crisp and well detailed. It looks real enough that in some of the pics it looks like it was photgraphed in the Land Of The Giant Kitchen Appliances !
  21. Absolutely. I think we'd all all enjoy getting "under the hood" with some your seriously well documented builds!
  22. Great to see a W.I.P. from you, even if this one doesn't include one of your awesome scratch built tubular frames. The little details you're including along the way (like the wheel centers for example) are real eye candy and will pay off big time on the finished model. I can't believe you're not doing your own decals - you must be planning something very special to trust someone else with your work.
  23. Nice build on this kit. A really purposeful gasser. I agree that the wheels contribute a lot to the effect, as well as the 4-barrel on the blower combined with the various metal finishes in the engine compartment. I've used Competition Resin wheels on several builds and have always been happy with them. They have very crisp detailing and they look especially good when, as you did, finished in Metallizer Buffable Magnesium or Buffable Steel. Also very effective, approximating the dull gold color of some mags, is the Testors Acryl Jet Exhaust (in the bottle) which I like a lot. I'm just starting this kit but I'm lowering it all around and will build it as a Bonneville car. Thanx again for sharing this tasty build. B.
  24. Classic mid-50’s style ’32 Roadster with full bellypan More pictures below A quick build from the Ex-Monogram Revell Basic Builder 1/24 scale ’32 Ford Roadster. I did this to explore the issues and techniques involved in building a car with a full belly pan. The kit doesn’t come with a separate chassis so I made very basic chassis rails and crossmembers which are glued to the inside of the body with about a 4 scale inch channel and a z’d rear end. Virtually the entire build is from the original kit with exception of after market resin tires and backing plates from The Parts Box in Australia, headlights from the 1/25 Revell Deuce kits and a steering wheel from my own parts box. Paint is Plasti-Kote GM 7157 metallic bronze over light gray DupliColor primer sealer and DupliColor Red Oxide primer. The bellypan is Testors Metallizer Buffable Plate Aluminum. I didn’t do this as a highly detailed build since it’s primarily a kind of prototype for future projects. Virtually all the chassis except for the front suspension is hidden by the bellypan and front bodywork. I settled on the mid-50’s look based on the wide whites and the kit’s chromed reversed rims. The W.I.P. with chassis details can be found here: http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=18864 Thanx for lookin’.
  25. Awesome give and take. Garlits is such a vital, intelligent man. What a thrill it must have been to have him respond to your creativity and then share his passion for a little while with you all. Those pictures in his shop with him descrbing things are just too cool!
