I started this shortly after the Callaway speedster came out (early 90's). Like peanut butter falling into chocolate I found the wheelbase of the AMX was almost the same as the speedster and decided to kitbash. Just used the AMX body, the rest is a mishmash of Speedster,ZR-1,and 90's GS vettes. I used the ZR-1 engine with Callaway twin turbos/intercoolers. It will be red, white, blue of course, not sure on the interior color. I hit a snag with the roof spoiler(wasn't sure if I cared for it), so I finished a another lingering project in the meantime, now it's time to resume and the spoiler stays. Oh yeah, as a club challenge, I agreed to have this done mid Sept!!!!!! I don't think I'll finish by then, so I am going to keep working on this thing until it's finally finished.............or I die, whichever comes first. I welcome all opinions, good bad or otherwise

Finished this one up a few months ago and I just got a borrowed camera working, so here we go. AMT 66 Galaxie 7 litre. I built it curbside, factory code lacquer(sauterne gold w/ ivy gold/parchment interior), parts box tires w/repainted whitewalls, I did a lot of research and tried to sweat the details(emblems, stance, etc) ,for a showroom fresh look.

Almost bring tears to my eyes. Those decals are beautiful. Keep the killer kits coming.

Take er easy there big fella. I wasn't trying to slam Chrome-Tech, or start rumors, just explaining why I wanted other avenues to check into. I should have stated that the parts are for a commission build, meaning deadline. I have no problem using C-T if turnaround, pricing, etc. are comparable. The experience of a long turnaround was a personal friend's and he did say they looked great when he got his parts back(he's right,I saw them), just took longer than he cared for. He wasn't slamming CT either, just sharing his personal experience. Maybe an isolated incedent, goes to show that one persons frustrating experience can turn into semi-negative word of mouth to many. My apologies to Chrome-tech Bob if I've done any harm. Next time I will be more careful with my words and try to just ask the question. Feel free to edit(delete) this if it's still a problem, my question was answered Thanks for the info Bill and all yous other guys for views on this. BTW That chrome body, and the pics do look good.

I have some parts that need to be chromed. Can anyone tell me how to contact The little Motorcar Company or another suitable chroming company. I know about Chrome-Tech, and have seen his work, it's nice, but I have heard of extra long turnaround times, like months and I can't chance waiting that long. I did read an article years ago on prepping and sending parts, but I can't seem to find it. Any info by those who have gone through this process would also be appreciated. Thanks for your time.

Don't know how that happened. I guess they're so nice I had to say it twice.

Nice work. I like the little details and subtle weathering. The drag car looks familiar, I've seen it ..... ....somewhere.

I've been building for 25-30 years and have yet to open any kit doors. That baby's all sliced up. Lookin good. Let's see more.

I think I remember that car. Was it ever in some other magazine, say 10-12 years ago? If not there was a very similar one, even yellow and Cragar SS's, I have it here........somewhere. I always thought the two ends worked well together. Welcome back, you've missed some good stuff.

Man that does look great. Pro-touring Enzo style? Cool idea. Let's see it up on wheels.

Duplicolor Lacquer
novadose71 replied to ismaelg's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Cool! I'm there, tomorrow. -
I built this about 4-5 yrs ago. I had some extra Harlequin basecoat leftover from a customers car, and I had to put it on something. I figured the old lady:) HATES El Camino's and color change paint, what better motivation for a build. Rear tires from AMT custom 57 chevy, same as elky kit, just wider. Shaved handles, emblems, and hood bulge vents, otherwise out of box. One of my favorite builds, AMT got the stance right on this one. Now go build something

Stripping with Castrol Super Clean
novadose71 replied to Olle F's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
I wouldn't try and advocate the non use of rubber gloves ,or any other "safety stuff" unless I was being sarcastic. I have been in the painting industry (home, auto, and industrial) around 15 yrs, gloves, respirators, etc. are a daily ritual, sometimes all day, I guess I might assume that safety's on everyones mind. I've seen and heard the effects of various chemicals on the body for years. I didn't learn until I started to notice some effects on my own body, but then it's a little late. You want to prevent the effects, not wait till you experience them, then try to make them go away. I've also done the 20 min. CSC hand soak several times in the past, I'll add that it gave my hands a numbing effect for day's, and while your embalming your hands on Castrol, might as well use the time to strip a body , otherwise it's an accurate description. BTW I keep my safety stuff;gloves, safety glasses, respirator, ear plugs, etc. together. I'll go to grab one thing and the rest are reminders that I might need more protection. I tend to use them more this way . I'm done with my safety weenie speech for today, NOW GET BUILDING. -

Stripping with Castrol Super Clean

Hooked has it pretty much covered. The only thing I can add is to check progress daily during long soaks, here's why I do. I have used CSC for years. Seven or eight years ago I had an adverse reaction on Monogram's 59 Caddy Convertible, first issue. I can't remember how long I soaked it, coulda been a month or so but it softened the plastic in a few area's, I didn't realize it until I dug into it while physically removing the stubborn lacquer paint, ruining the trim on top of rear fins. DOH! I threw it into it's box for a long nap, next time I opened it all the areas were solid again. So I just molded them in and it became a custom. That's the only time I had a problem with it and have stripped a lot of bodies and miscellaneous debri. For chrome I use Mag cleaner(usually has a rough cast turbine wheel on the bottle) to get off the shiny almost instantly, rinse well, then soak in CSC to remove the clearcoat under the chrome, this usually works well for me. -
That is lookin great, very realistic, especially after hearing of the problems you are having. Sounds about like the 1:1 Alfa's . Keep Pluggin away, can't wait to see it done.

Awww Mannn. I only like the big wheels if it's raised up from stock. I'm kidding, it's more like aluminum slots and sidepipes, and I don't care if someone else doesn't like it, and say's so(or even gives a little razzing in fun) ..............it's their opinion(most seemed in favor of your wheels anyway) and personal taste, we are entitled. America, and this board, are beautiful that way. aack Personally, I don't dig the big wheels so much, but I like your model. Interior and hood look cool(to those that don't think so, I apologize heehee) What's planned for the motor? I use a micro-mesh sanding kit, Meguiars cleaner polish and Wizards shine master polish and sealant to smooth paint, same as on 1:1 cars. Yours looks like it has the potential to be smooth and glassy. I've polished worse with good results, just take your time to avoid dreaded burn through. Nuff said, uh, maybe I should have said nothing, and just went to sleep. BTW Almost every model built is an expression of personal taste, except the ones that I'm forced to build.

Great stance, wheels, and my favorite Camaro factory stripes. Wouldn't change a thing.
