  1. Looks good. I built one of those when I was 13 or 14, and it's probably the last time I had seen one built. I can't remember the reason, but mine didn't get the stripe, which is odd cause I really like it. A neighbor friend in high school had an Omni GLH, a fun little car, like driving a turbocharged rollerskate. With snow tires it went good in the snow too. Along with the Citation X-11 and Buick GN this is 1 of my favorite domestic 80's cars. I believe the S stands for Shelby, I seem to remember reading that when they were new, but I've been wrong many times before. Just ask my wife, she'll tell you.
  2. Overhaul!? Chip Foose isn't coming aboard is he. Anyway, I think it's a good idea to change some. I do like most of the content, it's a good mix, and I try to learn a little something in most articles. One thing that sticks in my mind, is when you do a vintage model desk shoot, those make for a cool cover. I think the kit build and or history articles are a good idea. I tend to focus on 60s-70s street machines-stock-and most types of vintage racing, and exotics, so naturally I want to see more of these, but it's impossible to cater to everyone. I do like rods and customs too, I've even been eyeing up some big rigs lately, and I guess I just like models, so keep those. The consistency can be a little off, but it doesn't bother me, especially it's being improved upon. I can barely find time to work 40 hours, be part of my family, and build too. Let alone fly to shows, write articles, shoot pictures, and the thousand other things it takes to put out an article or whole magazine. So my hat is off to everyone who contributes to the magazine, can't wait to see the changes. Thanks
  3. Started my new project last night. It was missing the rear spoiler when I got it off ebay 3-4 months ago, so I got one from Modelhaus. While looking it over and mocking it up. I noticed the concave filler piece between the taillights and the spoiler/ down around the rear of the quarterpanels to the bumper was missing, no mention of it in the instructions either. I am also redoing the blue '71 promo while building this kit and the filler piece is molded on this one, molded on a friends Johan George Follmer Javelin kit too. AAAaaarrrgggghhhh!!! Now for my questions....Does anyone know anything about this part? Why it's molded this way? Why mine is missing? Modelhaus sells replacement taillight panels, is this filler panel included? I am going to email Modelhaus with my questions also. Any insight into this is appreciated. Thanks, Rob
  4. WOW. It's cool finding old stuff like that from your past. I have a few that my Grandpa built when I was a kid, In a way, they're some of the favorites on my shelf, even if they're not that nice. And I see your parents allowed you to build two beer sponsored models as a child. shame shame So, I am assuming they have driven you to a life of raging alcoholism. Repeat after me "My name is (state your name)......and I am a (state your vice)aholic.............
  5. This is a very good idea. I never really cared for the Series 1............. until now. Nice job Darin.
  6. I just looked at my stock AMT '62 Pontiac Catalina SD, it has "spiral shocks" on it, these look correct.
  7. Brendan seems to have a good system for cleaning resin. I had always heard that a soak in Westley's whitewall cleaner was required until I soaked 6 sets of wheels from Time Machine Resin for around 20 hours. All were fine except one wheel out of the 24 got soft, I could roll it into a ball, still can, four months later. Time machine sent me a whole new set of four and recommends a soap and water wash. I think some companies still might recommend the Westleys Blech white.
  8. I had my camera out today so I took some chassis and interior shots. Nothing is finished yet. Driveline is all glued in. Plug wires added, I would like to add a bit more wiring all over. Intercoolers, injection unit, and radiator assy. are just resting there. I still have to add the turbo setup and plumb the sidepipes. Some front suspension details yet to be assembled, rearend pretty much done. And there is a belly pan from the trans. to rear suspension that is not shown. I need to add carbon fiber to some areas too. Interior is sprayed a custom mixed color, no detailing yet. I do plan to repaint the dash top(got some dirt in the paint) and add a little red somewhere on the doorpanels. I'll probably re-clear the body this weekend, then I will post some pictures... shiny style. See ya
  9. Cool. Thanks for letting us know.I'll be looking for these this weekend.
  10. One of my favorites also. My 1/1 was a '70, 360 with Go Pack, automatic . My Dad owns it now, needs restoration, and I can't get him to sell it back. I've also got a few AMX model projects in the works. Kind of on an AMX kick lately, and this just fuels the fire. Your engine looks really good. Is the chassis getting the same attention? I will be looking forward to updates. Build on.
  11. I seem to remember pinstripe decal sheets with several different widths on a sheet. Different colors available too. Can anyone tell me if they are still made and where to get them? I need white ones. Thanks in advance for any help.
  12. Finally got some paint on this thing. Hok candy apple and cobalt over a dark silver/snowhite pearl base. 3 coats of clear wetsanded flat. Might just spray a couple more thinned coats of clear on it, I don't think I have enough clear left on it now to finish the polishing process. I am also considering leaving it in the sanded stage, I kind of like the anodized look, but will probably polish it out. The chassis and drivetrain are painted and pretty close to complete, didn't take any pics of them though, interior has a way to go yet. I am still trying to figure out how to do my white stripes, I did buy a sheet of white decal paper and might try to hand cut a set. Comments and ideas welcome. My club of 6 members has a challenge we call the Collection Raid. Go to volunteer members house and raid his stash of kits and determine an approximate deadline, around a year later . This was year two, at my house. I agreed to resume this Amx build for this raid. Yesterday was the deadline with an early lunch served in my basement with members unveiling their builds, finished or not, in my case, not. Here is the whole group of members builds, minus the one, not even started build.
  13. That's looking pretty good so far. I know what you mean about the hurdles, I just scratched a grill for my AMX project, it was a little nerve racking at first but once I got going it just flowed together, felt good to finally get it done. BTW While your resin casting that trim piece, maybe you could cast every thing else and offer kits for sale. One can wish, right?
  14. That's really cool. I have a soft spot for Chevy II Nova's.
  15. My wife got some cheap stuff at the dollar store called Ultra Foil, last week I was complaining about how it tears too easily to use in the kitchen. It's pretty thin, it would probably work good for this, and 25 square feet should last a lifetime. It's already stashed in my model room. shhh don't tell. A side note on the adhesive. I have used it to hold down the edges of decals that want to curl, and to attach a dash emblem that I made from two tiny decals and paper on my 73 Roadrunner. It's strength really surprised me. I have used it on several other things as well, it's nice to have on my bench.
  16. Another beautiful build. Is Apalachian Green factory color from a 1/1 manufacturer? I really like it and want to put it on the list of colors I am considering for my 1/1 1971 Nova, just in case I ever get it into paint.
  17. Amen brother. Model King rocks!!!!!!!!!!!!
  18. Very, very cool. In fact, it's the coolest 48 woody I've seen.
  19. I sent you a PM. Please don't give the address out, not that I think you you would, but you never know. Maybe I'll see you there, we are re-doing our "Where were you in 72" diorama(pics are in the diorama section) and will have it set up for a club display along the wall. Good luck, Rob
  20. Four of our club members are also members of the Milwaukee club that puts this on. We invited 6 or 7 of them to attend the last show we hosted at our local hobbytown, then they went to Hooters for several hours afterwards , but I had to go home . I can't remember much longer than 4 hrs ago, but I will email club members right now and try to get some info for you. I do know it is at the Excellence Center in Waukesha again, sometime in April. Are you planning on attending?
  21. You did an awesome job on this one as usual. There is something about the redlines with the green wheels and body, looks great.
  22. Sounds like you are doing all you can with your hardener. Maybe try pouring enough for 4-5 paint jobs into a smaller air tight container. That way the container you are opening over and over contains less to go bad. And the original container is opened once. I don't know if this will prolong the life of the original container, just an idea. Or, since you are in contact with some painters, ask them if they will sell a small amount of hardener to you(and clear). I have used Sikkens, Lesonal,Dupont,PPG, and a few of the cheaper brands of urethane . I use Sikkens at work now and the hardener seems to go bad pretty quick , yellowing as it gets older. PPG and Dupont seemed to last a little longer, but it's been a few years since I have used them. If I think of anything else I'll post later, I'm sure others will as well.
  23. I alway's thought this was a cool build, looks like it's holding up well. I don't think I have ever seen this Hoodz set used on another build. BTW Where did the hubcaps come from? They look familiar, but I can't quite place them.
  24. Been on my shelf for a while now. Pretty much box stock with wheels from Motion Camaro, big n little tires(my favorite kit tires btw) from a GT 350R, a T-handle shifter, and photo-etch underdash gauges. I painted the flat black on the hood and Alcladed the bumpers because the kit chrome rubbed off, as easy as the Alclad does. Someday I want to pop them off and rechrome them, yeah, someday. This was a nice kit that went together well. Thanks for lookin' and comments always welcome
