Hey Ed, A tripod helped me eliminate the fuzzy picture syndrome, it was less than $20 at Wal*Mart(even if I can hardly stand the place, at 3 A.M. it's not so bad), before I got it I would hold the camera in my hands, and prop them on something like a stack of books so I could adjust the height, which helped a lot too. The aperture setting on my camera also helped to keep the vehicle in focus from front to rear, my wife is gone with it so I couldn't tell you how it's setup at the moment. I'm still trying to dial in my lighting setup. Search some photography/camera sites and read, read, read then practice, practice, practice. Good luck

novadose71 replied to KT EASTMAN's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I was born in December of '72(35). I came home in a big christmas stocking(still have it) in Moms VW bug -

They changed the cowl, dash and some smaller details(air cleaner?) And if memory serves, I believe there are some small difference's in the boxes too, but I can't remember what they are. I have a first issue, that's what I get for having to have one right away, then it sit's in it's box to this day.

Your a madman Bill. Your builds always amaze me.....and everyone else too. Keep em comin. -
They look like the wheels from the Johan(Testors) Mercury Comet Pro stock. I used some on a 73 Javelin, awesome wheels...................and the color looks awesome on there.

USPS parcel post SUCKS!!!!
novadose71 replied to truckman1958kits's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I use USPS priority mail to ship my commission builds.....never had a problem and never more than 3-4 days delivered from WI to TX. -
Should turn out cool when your done Terry. Are you doing the Dean car? Keep us posted and if could I twist your arm a little and get you to include a pic of the figure that came with the kit with your next update, that would be cool. Hey Bill, not real familiar with Aston Martin (so don't quote me on this ) but Zagato being a coachbuilder probably got the running/rolling chassis from Aston Martin and built a cage on it and skinned it in aluminum or whatever, and probably had the same chassis, unless it was a special or race version. That's the way they did it with Ferrari(which were all coachbuilt and no secret), the Ferrari 250 Zagato had a 250 GT (TDF) chassis under it, and they were also bodied by Scagleitti, Pininfarina, etc., etc. A little off topic, but this thread reminded me of a neat story my X-boss told me of an old coachbuilder in the early to mid 50's, I can't remember which one but they did one(or all 2 or 3) of the Ferrari 857 Sport's, anyhoo, they were located in the forest in Italy somewhere, and as you drove towards their building the forest was cleared around the building, all that were left were 3-4 foot stumps, with the tops carved into different shapes and curves......the builder would figure out the shapes he needed, go outside, find the right stump and start forming....go back inside test fit..and go back out....and repeat until the panel was shaped correctly...talk about old school.

I forgot about this till you asked Harry. I don't have an answer for ya but here is another goofy #2 on a yellow 250tr, if memory serves it's from Le Mans 1958 driven by Jean Beurly, pretty sure he's from Belgium. I worked on this car a couple years ago(man do I miss that job) and noticed it while researching pictures, never did find out why it's like that though, maybe it's a Belgian, or Le Mans, thing. And I never made the Belgian connection till Andy mentioned it(Duh slaps forehead )........., my Moms side of the family is full blooded Belgian, with Grandma making trips there every few years before she passed, I'll ask if anyone knows anything about it next time I talk to them.

Very cool!! We used to have one of these in the storage area of the shop I worked in. It was in bare aluminum and parts boxes, it had previously caught on fire from the idiot customers cheap, yeah cheap, shop light. I always liked the look of that car. After seeing yours, I think I like them more when they're painted and put together.....Nice job

I went through my 69 Camaro kits, which, BTW, I bought most of them to kitbash with the AMT Nova(no need for that now)all the BB headers are the same, but I'm not sure I will be using them. I'll have to glue them together and test fit them with the chassis/engine and see how they look. I also have to check my Revell pro street Chevelle, and any other BB Chevy I have too. Stump, I got a little sloppy scribing when I removed my gas tank, but even with the xtra sanding I don't think I lost much, if any, depth. But if you had to, a flat sheet would work well. I'll post chassis pics with my next update so you can see the results for yourself, probably sometime this coming weekend.............Thanks all, for your suggestions and comments, see ya.

Thanks for the Camaro header idea. I'll have to look into those. I bought 7 or 8 BB 69 Camaro kits when they were everywhere and got them cheap, for parts. Don't even know if I broke the seal on any of them yet except the B/M(same headers???) and Z-28 versions . I held the 70 BM Camaro sidepipe headers up to the Nova chassis with the 454 in it, doesn't look like it would be too hard to adapt them. But they are a little flashy for what I have in mind, I'll use them when I build my other 70. I am planning on straight header, with a block off cap on them, and the Corvette sidepipes will be "welded" into the side if the collectors. As far as the tank is concerned, it should be no problem really. Scribe around the tank till it pops off, spin it 180 degrees, glue down. This was my only error, make sure you get your scribing tool at a 90 degree angle between the tank and frame rails, I couldn't get in there square, and ended up with a lot of extra sanding to get it to sit flat, and a gap around the tank. I ended up flowing super glue around the perimeter till the gap was filled , then added a few drops of accelerator to set it, now it looks alright, and still only took about half an hour.

Those are, hands down, my favorite tires ever in a kit................. I'm just sayin'

Hey Len-.010 X .020 styrene strip on the top trim. Now for an update. Got the hood done. I added a hood tach from a 68 Firebird and cut the scoop from a 67 Vette hood, I'm also stealing the 2 piece sidepipes from the same Vette. I decided to rob the engine from one of my 70 1/2 B/M Camaro's, it has all the B/M stuff(valve covers, ignition, fuel pumps, etc, etc), and you'd never know it is a 454. I put a peg in the transmission hole to mount it to the crossmember, cut the motor mounts off the block, and shortened the engine mounts on the chassis, it still sits a little high so I'll shorten them more when I get the oilpan glued on. Oh yeah, turned the fuel tank around too. Now I just need to come up with some headers, if anyone needs me, I'll be in the parts box........later.

Question about reverse light lenses?
novadose71 replied to 62SS's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
I did these with a piece of BMF and then brushed a little Testors clear enamel mixed with a bit of flat white enamel to a milky translucent color. I use the same paint to do molded in chrome headlights............and clear turn signals like these below with a drop of clear orange added first, kind of along the lines of the Fascolor. Bill, the pearls are a great idea, I have a bunch of pearl powders in my stash, it never dawned on me to mix them in my translucent white. I'll have to try adding some white, maybe a touch of blue to the headlights, to my mix next time I need it, see how it looks. -
I don't remember.......but I'll get back to to you tomorrow after I get down to my model room.....and will hopefully have an update too.

Sweet Nova Adam, the paint looks great, I wish mine was that far along. That hood looks like it fit's good. Is it from VFN? I almost bought one from them 5 or so years ago, it was like $600, and I didn't know anything about their quality so I backed out. I also saw one from another company a couple weeks ago, but can't remember who.

've decided to build this as a Phase III now . I will have to raid my 69 B/M Camaro(then buy another one to replace it ) for engine, sidepipes and & whatnot, and it definitely needs some sort of 5 spoke mags. Torque thrust's are always cool, but the 200-s daisy mags have been a favorite of mine forever, so we'll see what the parts box holds. Something like this in Fathom Green........................just plain awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Revell 69 Nova,........
novadose71 replied to Len Geisler's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
You'd have to do a lot of fighting and swearing to install a 1/1 Nova gas tank backwards, not to mention refueling from and through the back seat  -
Thanks Marcos... I have several sizes of Evergreen strip, probably their 5 or 6 thinnest (.015 X .015, etc), for the trim I eyeball them on the body until one looks right then glue it where it needs to be (measure, mark, blahblahblah), for the vinyl seams I do the same, but use a strip that is a little too tall, then sand it down with a med sanding stick, rounding it off a little in the process. The plastic tends to mushroom over the sides too, which works to my advantage, then I will lightly blow the dust off, lightly wipe with a tack cloth, then put a wet coat or two of lacquer primer over the seams, just so it flows under the mushroomed plastic. Then mask the body, and mix Testors flat and semi-gloss paints until I have the right color, thin it down a little on the heavy side, spray at a higher pressure(30-35 PSI ???), usually wide open, through my airbrush( Badger 360)from about 2 feet away. You want dryer coats, not wet. I give multiple coats, with lots of dry time....you don't want the paint to flow too much. I have even rubbed down a top that had too rough of a texture with my finger while the paint was dry to the touch but still soft. It's no science with me, lots of trial and error. Phew. Sorry if I rambled,I don't think I forgot anything though. Oh yeah.........all measurements and techniques are guesstimates, so don't take them literally I'll try to post a few examples later, but my daughter HAS to get to the park or she is going to have a konipstchion(?) fit..... ;)

Woopeee. I have three other projects going right now, but I couldn't wait to start this. Revell 69 Nova. I added a vinyl top, cut the stinger from a 67 Vette hood and am in the process of adding it to the stock Nova hood. I am not sure if I will build this as a Stage III Baldwin Motion or a replica 69 version of how I want my 1:1 71 to turn out, at this point it could go either way. Thanks for lookin..............hopefully more progress soon.

Lookin good!!!! Can't wait to see it done.

Very cool, that's a really nice build of a kit I have been waiting (and waiting, and waiting) to get my hands on. BTW Time Machine Resin carries the Rebel wheels if you need a set for your other Rebel or for Bill's 70 AMX(yet another AMC kit that eludes me)
