  1. A couple 1/43's to burn up some down time:) .....and finally the gas pump that I restified(?) for my Dad. I've had it for about 5 years now, .........it's finally done.........and so is 2008..................Have a safe and Happy New Year!!!!!!!!
  2. Our club display diorama. We gave it a makeover last year by backdating it from it's previous 1973 gas crunch status to summer 1961. The cars I did for the dio.59 El camino with Chris Craft boat,56 Ford , 36 Ford farm car, and Doc Browns Delorean covered with tarp. I didn't paint Doc.
  3. A couple 69 Nova's built in tandem. The Baldwin Motion car is my first super detailed project beyond basic wiring. The gold one is with a new owner now. My Big T. Built for a club project.cool
  4. Haven't been around here too much lately and I see some are posting their 08 builds, so here's what made the jump from my bench into my(and others) display cases last year........ First are my Javelins. I built these in tandem. The brown 73 still needs a couple details, but I'm calling it done till I come across the parts I need. The blue 71 lives with a new owner. I started on this in the early 90's, finally made some great progress on it in late 07, and into 08, but failed to finish it. I call her the Callaway MX This is a rebuilt promo with some Pinto Cruisingwagon wheels. It sleeps with a new owner

Thanks for the kudos guys. Hey Al, I sent the wheels on runners with some bumpers. The runners I made were per Chrometech's instructions on their site. The wheels took up about half of the space. I think you could probably get two sets of wheels on one set of runners with some creative placement. It was under $40 when I sent mine.

Fresh from the bench 2 weeks ago. I received this in a club challenge last spring with a deadline of Dec.9th. This thing consumed 9 cans of Testors Inca gold One Coat(not quite..... and man am I glad for 40% off coupons) lacquer, one tube of 5 minute eeepoxy, most of my bench, and all my free time for the last month and a half or so. It's lowered 1/8 inch all around, I replaced the kit plastic radius rods, steering arm and linkage with aluminum tubing and attached them to the kit ends. The pinstripe decals were pieced together from the kit sheet and the kit steelies were plated by Chrome-Tech. Now I just need to figure out where I'm going to display this thing. Thanks for looking.
  8. Good color choice and a nice clean build. Looks just like the one in the new Hemmings Muscle Machines.
  9. That's coming along nice...........and that's a lot of rivets
  10. So that's what you are doing with all those Plymouths.....................building them.....cool. I'm with Bill on the blue one being the favorite, but the delivery ain't far behind.
  11. Thanks for the tri tone info, Ron, I was counting the carpet color as a 3rd color, but any way you slice it, it makes for a very nice looking interior, and it happens to be one of my favorite parts of a build. And also thanks for the ebay link, lots of great closeup shots in there. I did find some decent blue interior shots somewhere on the web so these combined with yours should be all I need. I got my modelhaus order last week so I will be tearing into the Bonneville next weekend. I got a complete interior kit with front seats molded in and the dash/ steering wheel and also got a separate front seats/console piece, I don't know if I will salvage the original or use the complete resin interior yet, I'll figure it out as I progress. Also got tires, vacuum formed front and rear windows, and all the chrome, you really can build one of these from just a kit body shell, what would we do with out Modelhaus. Oh yeah, the 8-lugs were labeled on the package as 63-64 models, and Don said there have been no upgrades to the wheel castings, so my source was wrong. I'll try to start and keep up on a WIP thread on the 63(and the 62 following it), but the body is in primer now so I'm already behind...........typical.
  12. I should have it finished this weekend, I'll post a thread here in this section after I get the pics taken.
  13. Now that's cool. Nice job on the conversion.
  14. E-gads, and I thought I had problems with mine, your second try turned out way better. I sprayed the two coats on mine, but then sprayed 1 coat of HoK Lime gold candy over that, which is apparently a little hotter than Testors and it pulled the pigments out of the red plastic, through all previous coats and turned the body orange. AAAaarrrrggghhh. Some BIN sealer, two more coats color and the clear turned out rough(but not nearly as rough as your first try ) now I'm in the polishing stage and still not happy with it. I'm just calling it a "60's" lacquer job and it is what it is. Here's where I'm at..................
  15. maybe he's at a liquidation sale across town .................................?
  16. Very cool Al. I am finishing up a Big T right now, and the color of yours looks alot like mine. That wouldn't be Testors One coat Inca Gold, would it? If not, it sure looks like it...if so, how many cans did you go through, I still need to count mine. Anyway, very nice job on the C-cab conversion, and I really like the color
  17. Good topics and stories! I've never been to a judged show where they handle your model and I've never had some Joe at a show just grab one of my models and pick it up. I have seen some jumpy kids around the tables though, they made me pretty nervous, but I've never had to say anything. If needed, I'll just browse over to the same table, and maybe ask what the little rugrats favorite car is or something along those lines. Sometimes just making an adult presence known is enough to calm them, or at least move them along. When at one of our club meetings, we just ask if it's ok to pick up, and how to handle someone else' build. Some get grabbed by the drip rails, some need to be scooped up, "watch out the hood falls off!!!!" etc, etc. We are all modelers so we should be able to handle it. OK, so we build a club diorama every year, which usually includes 2-4 cars per each of the 6 members and because of a deadline we don't always complete each model(I'm usually the biggest offender), so unglued or possibly unpainted chassis' aren't uncommon, they just gotta look good sitting on the dio. At a show where we had the dio set up, another magazine (What, there's another magazine? ) was set up for pics. The magazines photographer was talking to club member X about one of his Nascar builds and how it was very nice but couldn't be in the magazine because of sponsorship, blah, blah, blah. He was asked which of the cars on our dio were his, without any kind of handling or picture taking permission being asked. Member X pointed his out and they talked for a while more, and parted ways. Not 5 minutes later there was the photographer halfway to the picture room, club members model dangling from the driprails, freshly snatched from our diorama. Luckily, this particular model had made it through final assembly, so the chassis and interior didn't fall 3 feet to the floor as any one of my dio cars would have. Member X caught up with him in the photo room and after a brief discussion on the why's and why nots of handling someone else' model, followed by some hasty excuses, the model was allowed to be photographed and the show went on. Nothing bad came of this scenario but it could have went south very fast. I think there has to be some expectation that an accident can (will?) happen to your build when it is displayed at a show. From a low hanging sleeve to a uncontrolled 5 year old, to the lowest of lows, getting your build getting stolen, anything can happen. But (except judged shows where handling by officials is normal) anyone(no matter who you are) who wishes to handle anothers model, should first ask for permission and then ask how it should be handled, or just ask the builder to pick it up and show it to you, most will be more than happy to oblige, I know I would. That's all I got.........................
  18. Absolutely NOT necessary, I still got a deal. I really don't pay attention to the price when I buy them, I just assumed it had to be aroung $6, most magazines I get anymore are up there, and wouldn't you know it, the best one is $4.50. ;) Besides, I've always used the trip for the mag as a reason to go to this particular hobby shop, you know, "support your LHS" and all. I've been going there for 4or5 years to get it, and he keeps past issues on the rack, so it's only every couple of months or so. But..........I might as well subscribe anyway, I think the old lady is on to me and my scheme.
  19. Drove the 40 minutes to the most local hobby shop that carries MCM today. Grabbed a couple kits and the latest issue. The old guy who owns the place typed the price in on the kits then went to the magazine to find............ no price printed anywhere, on any copy he had either. He didn't know what to do, he looked and looked to no avail. He wound up telling me $3, I said they were usually around $6, so he gave it to me for $5. Thanks for the good deal Gregg but please support my LHS sanity by bringing this to the printers attention Thanks
  20. I grew up in Iowa about 1 1/2 hrs from Dyersville where AMT was located. Dad, Grandpa, my brother, and I, went to the Nat. Farm Toy show there, every year at the high school. The trip usually included a tour of the AMT model works and the local Dairy Queen there too. Watching the chrome trees spill out ouf the machines is still fresh in my mind etc etc. With that said, I have to admit I have a soft spot for AMT, but I do not discriminate between kit manufacturers. A good kit is a good kit. Here's my 2 cents........ IMHO Generally, just about any kits by either manufacturer tooled up since the AMT 66 Chevy II or Revells 69 Camaro(late 80's early 90's) are a good kit. I have built several from both companies, and the ones I have done were all nice kits. I'm sure there are some lemons in the bunch, but the good ones stick out more in my mind. Without digging through boxes, here are some good Amt kits I have, some have already been mentioned 66 Nova, 57 Chevy stock or street machine, 60 Chevy pickup stock and street machine, 68 El Camino stock or street machine, 67 Impala, 62 Pontiac 421 SD and custom. 58 Edsel's, 60 Ford,70 Camaro Z-28 and Baldwin Motion, 48 Woody, 71 Duster and Charger, 62 T-bird, 67 GT-350, 66 fairlane and 67 Mercury Comet, some street rod material in there as well, and I'm sure I missed more than a few. I bought most of the new releases from both through this time period, and opened all of them and looked them over, built some, but haven't even almost built them all, but the ones I did were all great kits. Some of the older stuff is good, some not so good, but they are models, so I like em all. Everything I just said goes for Revell as well. BTW I never understood RC2/ERTL's decision to keep re-releasing the ancient kits and ignore the above mentioned kits, a bad business decision by an out of touch management. I think that's why AMT seems to be the whippin' boy when kit quality comes up. That's about all I can say right now,my brain hurts and my daughter is bugging the heck out of me to take her to grandma's. Bye FYI The National Farm Toy Show is this weekend in Dyersville, Ia if anyone is nearby(yeah right )
  21. Hey, nice job on that Savoy, truly a "funky little four door". I have considered a couple different full kits from them too, but have yet to take the plunge. I have only used some of their 73 AMX parts so far and they were very nice as well. I do have a 68 Cutlass conversion(very nice ) waiting to be put to use and a pile of 63 Bonneville and 70 AMX parts on order. I can't wait for my order to arrive.
  22. Awesome clean build. And the stance always makes or breaks the car, yours is perfect.
  23. My wife's cats like to carry model parts, especially tires, away in their mouths . Now, I keep them out of my area with a closed door when I'm not around. I do let them in when I build if I am not spraying. Sometimes they get brave and jump up on my things , but they hardly do that anymore because I chase them away with a squirt bottle of water or a loud pssst, pssst sound,(or a hiss/spray combo) and that gets the dog to come to my aid and chase them upstairs , across the slippery linoleum to the other end of the house, under our bed to safety It's a really good time that helps to break up my long nights of building and also helps to keep the critters in shape;)
  24. I work 3rd shift, so I usually get an hour or so in the morning before the family wakes, and weekends I keep my same schedule, so after my wife goes to sleep around midnight I have the rest of the night to the bench or in the garage. 3rd shift pretty much blows, another 5-7 years and I can probably get on day shift . I have never had more time to model, so I guess I can't complain too much.
