Calling this one done
novadose71 replied to Smart-Resins's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
That ought to bring a smile to the mailman's face...........the new neighbors too -
No luck on the Hurst, and I didn't want to hold up the project so I just painted the kit shifter ball white and used it. I hardly even notice

A quick update. Interior is finished, OOB except the steering wheel. It's glued in along with the chassis and engine. Now I'm wiring..................and man am I slooowww at it. I normally don't detail this much, but I just felt the need. I used miscellaneous wires(some painted) to detail, from the wires to hold toys in their package to various model detail wires. I made a wire loom on the firewall and wired the, alternator, starter, wiper motor, voltage regulator, battery, etc ,and addded some heater hoses and windshieldwasher hoses. I have a little wiring left to run along with a little paint touchup, then I can move onto the underhood fuel lines, which will run through a coolcan on the fenderwell. I am also going to try to scratch a Mallory coil box on the firewall as soon as I find a good pic. I added the dual fuel pumps from the 70 BM Camaro, and ran a fuel line alongside the molded in line. I also finished the molded in brake line on the drivers side, plumbing it to the centersection of the rearend, and made a dist. block and ran lines to the rear wheelbacks. I'm thinking parking brake lines are going to have to be added since I already went this far. That's it for now, I should have this monster finished sometime next weekend. Thanks for dropping by.....................

Need Airbrush Advice Please
novadose71 replied to Harvezter's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
If you have a Hobby Lobby nearby you could use a 40% off coupon for one of their Iwata airbrushes. The one by me has a HL exclusive kit with a Iwata airbrush, hose, and a couple other things in the box. It's around $170, but with the coupon it puts you right around a hundred bucks. Just sayin' -
Being on MCM forums IS model related right Gregg?......................... Hope you get better soon Clay.

Should I quit modeling?
novadose71 replied to ericmaxman's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Absolutely not, just start building outside and tell her that calling names is not nice, especially your own children. Oh, and store your stuff at Dad's if possible, sounds like he would be proud to display your builds. -
WOW Greg!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I wasn't sure those Chevelle stripes would work on there, but there it is right in front of me lookin' sweet, thanks, 'cause I'm definitely stealing this idea for my next one.I look forward to seeing it up on it's wheels, keep those pics coming............... BTW, on the decal sludge. I usually try a folded over damp polishing cloth and rub (very) lightly and off the edges so I don't lift any of them, I don't recall ever needing to try anything more than this. I also Checked my Gremlin modified kit the other day, it's got the twisted intake , that will be used on my next one too, thanks for sending me in the right direction.

I have some Modelhaus 63 Bonneville bumpers, and they DO NOT have the mold lines removed, and you can even see where they were twisted from the sprue before casting(probably 40 years ago), can't say the same about their Galaxie bumpers though as I've never seen them. It might cost a bit more, but for my money I would set up a sprue per Chrometech's guidelines, load it up with cleaned up parts and send it out. Just my 2 cents, but I have lots of stuff I would like to get chromed too.

Very nice. It really looks vintage.
-
Nice clean build. The lowered stance really helps the look.

Hey, thanks for lookin guys. I was hoping to go to Toledo with some guys in our club, but money and other life forces won't allow me to go this year, maybe next year. The Nova is with it's new owner now anyway, but I would have kept it a little longer if I had gone. Maybe a little photoshop magic and I can pretend I was there Have a good time!

I didn't catch that on the model, but I'm pretty sure your right about the inward rake on the 1:1. I'd check my 1:1 but it's been backed into my storage shed until I could afford to do something with it, yeah, hanen't seen that end of it in about 10 yrs now, stinkin money grubbin wife and kids haha. I'm not bashing the kit, but another thing I noticed was the dash engraving, no vents or fine chrome trim around the gauge cluster, and around the horizontal inset area of the doorpanels, looks like thats where they ran out of time tooling up the kit. No big deal by me, just a little more time spent with the superfine brush and chrome silver. I too think this is a great kit, almost done with my second build and lookin to buy 2 or 3 more. BTW George, what did you do to fix yours? Show us some pics heehee Just checked a few reference pics......you sir, are correct.

Best Trick For Doing Pinstriping
novadose71 replied to Gregg's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I haven't found any self adhesive pinstripes that I've been happy with. I have been using strips of Tamiya masking tape cut with Excel (sharpest out there IMHO) #11 zacto blades for all my paint separation/pinstriping needs. I stick it to a piece of glass from an 11x13 picture frame , grab my metal straight edge, cut off and discard the factory cut edges as they're not real clean, then measure and cut the strips approximately 1/2 mm wide. It's real flexible, so you can lay a good curve with it and it will follow contours well also, sticks good, and it releases easy too. The pic in my sig. is an example of this idea. The separation was done with a single strip of tape. I taped off and sprayed the candy red and the candy blue separately, so the tiny amount of white you might see along the separation is the base color showing due to my (un)steady taping hand, and the fact that it will get some sort of white stripe along it so I wasn't too concerned with it being perfect. I've also thought about trying a vinyl dye or paint right on the tape strips, then laying my stripe on the model. The dye is pretty flexible for curves, but dries semigloss, so it would have to be cleared on the car, I'm thinking gloss paint could be used for a straight stripe, but have not tested this idea yet. I also wonder if the tapes texture could be buried under the paint, or if it would be visible. That's all I got to say about this. I'll be watching for more idea's. -
1963 Pontiac Bonneville
novadose71 replied to fender6575's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Thanks for the heads up Ron. I haven't done much research on these yet, it's a commission build and all my info so far is from the guy I'm building for. He sent me the link below to get me started, gotta love those old artist renderings, it's the door panel he is after. http://www.oldcarmanualproject.com/pix/Pon...ntiac02_jpg.jpg The Modelhaus 8 lugs are on my "to buy" list for this build, he told me that he had heard that they recently reworked them to be more accurate. I also have a friend in my model club that is a Pontiac nut, and he is also a big magazine/book/bruchure collector as well, soooooo, if we can ever find a time where we are both free to sort through his stash for a couple hours I should have all the research material I need. Tanks again. -
testors spray enamel, now what!?
novadose71 replied to pussiwillow's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
Here ya go Bob. The only two paint jobs I have done that didn't need polishing were Testor enamels, not outta the can but through an airbrush, thinned way down. Both flowed out real nice with no peel, can't remember the dry time as they were both done over 7 yrs ago, but I'm sure it was at least a couple weeks. I haven't used enamel on a body since these two were done, I use lacquers almost exclusively now and ocassionally use Automotive urethane base/clears. The truck is custom mixed enamels from the jars, Arctic blue(and others mixed in) for body, Boyds purple for the flames, and too much of the same purple mixed in with the clear turned the blue purpler(?) than I had wanted Leftover from the truck, Arctic blue on the Cobra is how it layed down outta my booth with a little wax to really make it shine, boy, luck was on my side for this one. For the two good enamel jobs I have sprayed there are at least half dozen others that turned out as frustrating piles of shiznit. Most bad ones were shot from the can and the Testors cans don't even seem to have enough propellent to empty out all the paint. These are my 2 cents. 2 more cents....Another great thing about lacquer is how thin the build is, it won't flow over molded emblems and trim nearly as bad as anything else I have used, and it's a lot harder to run the paint. -
New 69 Nova commission build, built curbside. Nothing special, Olympic gold lacquer, and I'm pretty sure those are Kieth Marks double pinstripe decals for the AMT Nova, because they needed a little tweeking to get them to follow the lines on this body. These are great kits, I have another for myself, nearing completion and will be buying a couple more when I get paid for this one. Thanks for stopping.

Goldie is done, will post under glass. Not much progress on BM car, I got the dope light and all the windows glued in, now it's rearview mirror and shifter then I can glue the interior in. I was playing around the other night and assembled and threw a quick coat of paint on the rear spoiler from the BM 69 Camaro kit. I'm not using it on this car, just checking how it looks. I'll save it for my next BM nova which will have the full boogie stripe pkg.. HeyStump, I thought one might look good on your Nova(you've gotta have one in your stash), even if it does remind me of a 340 Duster from the rear. Just a thought and some pics to see if you like it. Any way, I am home sick from work so I'm headed down to my model room for an overnighter. Progress in a few days..............hopefully.
