I just re-hosted the picture for people to see. Unfortunately I can't find any more at the moment but I'm sure I'd have some in an old magazine somewhere. Yes his last name was Gratz and he was one of the big players in the early Top Doorslammer days after the category (that grew from the Wild Bunch group of blown sedan racers from the late 80's early 90's) went "professional" Group 1 in about 1996. He originally raced a 57' Chev but destroyed it a couple of times and then brought out the Daytona with it's advanced (and controversial) rear wing design to take on the big guns. Unfortunately I think money was a big issue for Peter and he simply couldn’t continue any longer as the category expanded to the big dollar operation it is today.

Awesome! We had a Daytona-bodied Pro Mod/Top Doorslammer car here in Australia about 10 years ago. It was driven by a fellow named Peter Gratz and at one stage was the quickest Doorslammer in the country and held the world record MPH. The body was eventually outlawed due to the long frontal overhang that apparently tripped the finish line beams ahead of the front wheels as the rear tyres grew in height through the top end.

Very nice! Did those Cragar wheels come with the kit?

Cheers Nick! If it's Mazda and/or Rotary I tend to know a fair bit but I would be the first to admit my knowledge on Sports Car/Prototype racing isn't that good but I'm learning all the time.

It's a Mazda 757, predecessor to the 767 and the legendary 787B. It was powered by a short crank 3-rotor engine called the 13G. It was built by Mazdaspeed for Le Mans and other Prototype racing competitions.

Great concept! -
A T-roadster, blown on a short wheel base... what more could you want! The Moon signage is a great touch too. What kits are the body and wheels from?

'34 Ford Coupe Custom Paint Experiment Successful!

Wow great job! A very 60's custom look for sure. Congrats on putting in the effort. -
This pick-up is amazing! I love the near stock/mild custom look, you've executed it very well. A top result for a short build time!

Hell yes another Gasser build! Very nice shoebox, love the paint and the engine bay... you're headers came up a treat!
-
Very nice little drag Bucket you've built there. I think you've put all the parts to great use and created something really special. Perfect nostalgia look!

Another awesome rotary build! Great work, the finish is flawless

Totally rad! You've done a great job there.

Argh this is racking my brain! It can't be a Ford I6 as the inlet is on the wrong side. Same goes for late generation 'Atlas' GM inline sixes. It doesn't look like a BMW I6 at all...

###### I would have guessed that 'shovel nose' RT40 Corona in a flash! Love those little cars. We got a utility version here and I think it may have even made it to the US as well. Really cool! As for that engine well it can't be a 2JZ because the oil fill is on the wrong side so it must be.... EDIT I've just read the hint that it isn't Jap so I better re-think my theory

Fantastic! That has to be one of the better rusty relics I've seen on here... great work!

Hrmmm a KE25 Corolla, possibly a Levin or Sprinter but then again the base models were also available in this 'fastback' shape. It's just so black it almost looks like it could be a Mk I Corona 'hardtop'.

Nope sorry I don't know enough about them to give you an exact year Nick. Now that car appears to be an Opel Kadett 2-door sedan, a body shape we did not get here. These cars were sold here (albeit with slight alterations) as a Holden Gemini in 4-door sedan, 2-door coupe, 2-door wagon and 2-door panel van/wagon.

Ahhh I know that one! It's a Lancia Beta Scorpion
-
Sweet! I like it alot. Have you painted or foiled the tank for completion?

Australians were and still are very moved by these events. Our alliance with the US has been strengthened (even if I don't agree with all the policies) in the years that have past which I see as a positive outcome. I too have memories of that day or in fact that night as it was here. My mother and brother woke me up but I couldn't bare to watch anymore so I went back to bed. That morning when I awoke again to get ready for school (year 12) I began to comprehend the situation. RIP to all those who lost their lives.

I agree great build there mate. So what's under the 'hood' of the old girl?
