diymirage replied to dencon's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
this will be very usefull once i finally get round to building the 68 hemi barracuda from the movie highwaymen (great movie by the way) -
here is a picture of the trailing arms i installed not 100 % square but at least the axle itself sits in there even and squared of (the arms are just a few degrees off) once everything dries properl overnight ill put up some pics of the stance

congrats on the first place i find this a very interesting build, your choice of color instead of chrome was a bold one but it seems to have paid off also , i love those rims i had a set of them once i put on a 70 challenger i build for my father in law

decided to take a little break from the rear suspension and tackle the tail lights today (i have the rear axle in place with two gas shocks on each corner and the ride height is pretty much set where i want it...the rear is just a hair higher then i intended but i think it actually makes it looks pretty agressive. i still want to ad a cross member or linkage of some sort since there is no leaf spings or anything else keeping the axle in place other then the aforemention gas struts) so...on to the tail lights here is what i started with one pontiac nascarturnedlowridergrandprix body (notice the lack of taillights...tsk tsk tsk, that atracts more cops then an ethnic person driving a powdered donut) and one set of taillights from a honda civic i first intended to install the chrome backing behind the body panel and then install the clear lenses over it but once i got to dremeling the body i decided to just use the lenses and put those right into the body which looks something like such.... the passenger side looks like it doesnt sit fluch in the picture so i might address that later thougths ?

its nice i like the colour matched steel hubs, make it looks like a real no nonsence street warrior which brings me to the next question....where are the engine shots ?

Dang! You got shocks, pegs... lucky! You ever take it off any sweet jumps?

What is a best set of slotted wheels in scale
diymirage replied to Car Crazy 81's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
i have a set in chrome that came with the modified stockers hauler 56 ford F100 they are solid metal axles on all fours not 100% sure if i have tires for them shoot me a PM if you are interested in them and we'll work out a trade -
i got the kit pretty much as a gift from a fellow member here i was mainly interested in the driver figure and since i had this idea for a lowrider i decided to revamp this kit into one. it turned out to be quite the challenge, making an interior and getting the panel lines just right but it has definatly been a fun ride so far. the decals really dont look that terribly bad for the age of the kit i think with some love they would still be very aplicable. i was origenally planning on using an old hood and applying the hood decal from the kit to it so i could hang it from the wall in my display garage but i couldnt find a hood that matched it so i guess they will go into the decal tin thanks i dont think it will look to terrible intimadating once the paint is on it will be a combination of browns and gold, pretty low profile lowrider style with a tan or brown vinyl top i was origenally planning in slapping on some sidepipes from the partsbox but it looks like they would scrape so i might just go with two pipes exiting the rear bumper

with me it all depends on the inspiration for the build what is my vision for the model im making ? i have build models around an engine, in which case i build the drivetrain first and then make everything else fit that i have build models around a set of wheels in which case the rolling stock is first, then the body is modified to accomodate the rollers and everything else follows i have a car on the bench right now that is build to match an easthetic view i have in my mind, in which case it is all about the body, engine, interior, chassis and rollingstock are finished and altered if needed to match the body so in short, my sequence varies with most any model i build

nice work i think my favorite touch is the hood hinges by leaving them on the body while the hood is of the whole thing looks so much more real to me, when i had to change engines in a car, this is the way i do it so it looks very realistic as for your question on the stand, let me start by confessing i have never been to a show but i have read on this forum quite a bit now and it seems the main gripe people have about judges at shows is that they handle to model to view all the details and not everyone apreciates that in my opinion, your stand eliminates the need for the model to be lifted up to examine the underbody...which is a good thing my only suggestion would be to place the mirror flat so it looks a bit more like it belongs there
-
yes they would but these are the only lowrider rims i have and on top of that, these are the exact wheels i think would look good on this car but if they were a bit bigger it would probable look a bit better i think ill check my partsbox, maybe i can find a bigger set of tires for them, that should help a lil

one kit that is a real challenge that fits your era is the AMT 56 ford victoria tons of fitment issues with that one but it does have opening doors and several ways to build it so i guess its not a total loss
-
i like the way this is coming out the hoses make it look so much better i bought one of these for my little nephew last Christmass and there is no way this is a basic builder with that front end, i had a hard time putting it together
-
thats an interesting question you posed at the end there i can think of a dozen kits that are complete junk and should be avoided at all times but for some reason i cant think of all but one kit to suggest....the modified stockers hauler and trailer kit it is a 1953 ford F100 pickup truck with a dual axle race trailer i build one last year and there muse be at least 30 different variations to build this truck as some of the biggest visual options are the engine, (two included) the rear fenders, (two different styles included) and the front grille (3 included) i would definatly recomend that kit, to get the juices flowing and to ad a nice pile to the partsbin

its been a while but with the new baby and my sleep being down in the single digits per week i was glad to get a minute or two of building in today so, i got the wheels in this week on a trade and i was playing with the stance a little i will most likely putty the driver side door shut again and rescribe it because im not pleased with it the wheels im putting on there wont work with the stock rear end so im building a new one, almost from scratch i have a rear differential that i added some 1/8th tubing to i then drilled out the tubing so i could run a solid axle through it once all that dries i will build a suspension to it that will allow the car to sit right about the way you see it as always, suggestions and comments are apreciated

i remember seeing that picture in the emergency vehicles build thats really cool she likes building models with dad i cant wait till mine is old enough to build models i can see it right now...ill have a big old shoe box full of models he knocked down over the years i tired that with the cat once but that didnt work we just brought him home on tuesday and this was the first change i had to be online for a few minutes looks like it will be a while untill i get to build something
-
if you could put a quick synopsis or how to on here that would be cool for those of us to dutch to go out and actually buy a copy
-
no more displaying models in the living room oh well i dont have many of them around any of the rooms the baby will be in plus, we should still have a while before he starts cruizing around the house breaking stuff
-
that is a nice looking setup you have there my only suggestion would be to get a piece of cardboard of make a door or some other way to shield of the paint rack because especially once you stare using spray cans in that booth the fan will suck out the vapors but there will still be a considerable amount of overspray on your paint rack there i really like the removable sidewall just the other day i found myself painting half a frame at a time because the whole thing didnt fit in my booth

thanks i was a littl scared he would come out looking like me but luckily he got the wifeys good looks
