Die-cast custom rims/tires question.
whale392 replied to whale392's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Strada Sports, Scale Dreams, Pegasus Hobbies.....they seem to have a great selection of various sized wheels that will work. I will be stopping at a truck stop on my way to Columbus this weekend and will see what they have. -
Die-cast custom rims/tires question.
whale392 replied to whale392's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
20"-21" is about as big as I would like to go, as I am building a street-driven vehicle......not a show ride. I still need some vague indidcation of a possible working suspension without MASSIVE metal work. Something you might actually see at a traffic light (I say this when a friend of mine is tucking 20" fronts and 22" rears under a 56 Chevy wagon; but the metal work and suspension fab needed is out of the realm of most 'modern' daily driven musclecars). -
what is the best way to rescale images ?
whale392 replied to diymirage's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
Correct me if I am wrong Dave; Vector allows you to enlarge and shrink images without losing quality-of-image due to it being a linear image translator (everything is based on scale, a linear formula. No matter how big or small you want it, it adjusts the proportions of the image the same percent). Rastor is more of a pixel-count base....the larger the image, the more pixelation? -

I also seem to remember some of the larger truck stops having them as well. -
Cleanly built Bullitt...........I like it (both actually).

Looks good for a 'crash and burn' 1st attempt.

Well, I beleieve we all do want Nick to improve (otherwise there wouldn't have been such adament posts and heavily charged polarity on his building ability). I had hoped that by posting pics of my Duster and explaining what the pic was trying to show that it in some way would help him to understand the point being made. In some of his build in which he took a little more time, they look real good. You can tell that others were rushed. He does have passion and ability; focusing and honing both will make him a force to be reckoned with later in his building career.

Die-cast custom rims/tires question.

Now I will just have to find a place with a good stock of Die-Casts in 1/24th-1/25th to peruse! -
Die-cast custom rims/tires question.

The 67 GT500. I saw the Camaro and thought the ralleys looked good. Wal-Mart here has severely cut back their Die-Cast and no longer carries much of anything. Thanks for the tip on the 'G-Rides'.......I have some of their 1/64th stuff (FOX Mustangs), but can't find any of their 1/24th stuff. -
Thanks for the info on the kit/availability guys. If my plate weren't already overflowing, I would consider doing one of these up with a turbo4 and full detail!

Die-cast custom rims/tires question.
whale392 replied to whale392's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Well, of all things, the rear wheels of the Jada 'Big Time Muscle' 1/32 scale cars are a close match for 1/24th-1/25th cars scale! The fronts spec out to 17" in 1/25th, but the rears spec out to 20" in 1/25th and 19" in 1/24th! I took a wheel/tire combo from my Revell 1/25th 2007 Mustang GT500 with me when I went into Wally-World yesterday and walked out with two Die-Casts just for the rear wheels ($10.70 total for the pair of die-casts). The search continues. -

Forgiveness or Permission
whale392 replied to justin2020's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I have an ex-wife because asking permission and I didn't get along too well (and she was a cheating........). "It is better to ask forgiveness than beg for permission" and "It is better to regret the things you HAVE done than to regret doing NOTHING at all" seem to fit better with life. -
I paint outside as well, and this weekend (for me anyway...Wed, Thu, Fri) was very nice for that. Time limited sucks!

I got that in the first post Robert, hence the 'saving up for the paint and body LAST' portion of my post. I have a barn car myself that is getting all new engine goodies/suspension. Then interior and finally paint. This car is right up my alley!

Got the cab in Yellow today, along with the whitewalls shot and wheels/tires re-assembled (Tamiya fine white primer works well for doing the whitewalls by the way). Also got the cab windowframe shot and ready to go in. Work tonight, so i had to stop to get some rest for the coming work week! Pics soon. -
Die-cast custom rims/tires question.
whale392 replied to whale392's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I know about (and have several sets of each) Pegasus and Aoshima (also Fujimi and is it JPS?). Thanks for the heads-up though, just in case I was unaware of them. I was asking about the ones coming from the Die-Cast world (I just spent $12.00 on a Die-Cast just to find the rims are too big). -
Jared.....still thinking of a tutorial on airbags? I can get the part numbers from the o-rings I use, as well as the rivets used to do coil-overs. My work week starts tonight, so I can raid my toolbox for the #s.

Guess the new owner is saving the paint and body for last! If this is a barn find, that interior is just too new looking for it. However, as a matter of my not-worth-a-bit opinion, I think the faded paint with the shiny rims and clean interior is a sweet look. Toss an old Stovebolt6 or a 235cid 'Red Flame' into it with some speed parts hanging off of it and you have the perfect car to go stealing little Hondas lunch moneys with!! (No disrespect to the well-built and prepped Hondas out there....the B16A, B18C, and K20/24 motors are some stout runners when built right!)

whale392 replied to Nick Winter's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
That's what some of us are saying; when Nick takes a little more time to build, his builds turn out quite good. For a 14 year old (who COULD be playing video games) he has talent. Some of us here can see that and want to help him with that. At 14 I was always outside playing; but when I was building my dad would show me things (even though he quit building in the late 60s). He would calm me down, slow me up, and force me to concentrate on what I was doing. He did that for my artistic talent too. His encouragement was guidance. The end result was attention to detail. That is what we are trying to empart to Nick.........he has the ability, it is just a matter of focusing it and using it to his advantage. -
Ok guys, I see a lot of you who do Pro-Touring type builds state you are getting the rims/tires from Die-cast cars. My question is which ones? The Maisto brand 1/24th are more like 1/22nd and the rims (already big to begin with) are just WAY too big for 1/24th-1/25th. Jada has similar issues. Help a fellow plastic whacker out here guys, toss this old scale dog a bone. Thanks.

I know the feeling Eric; I have been working on this one, a 1937 Ford truck, a 2003 Subaru Impreza WRX STi, and even a little more on my Kenworth. I even dug out the AE86 Levin I had started ans stripped the hood back to bare plastic..........and all of this was just in the last 3 days!
-
Cool idea for sure. I was thinking along the same lines with the Hertz GT350H kit; build the vintage kit up and then modify the 2008 Bullitt to properly mimic the original. keep us posted (no matter how slowly!).

If I can get it done I will Dan.........it isn't any superdetailed piece by any means, just a detail paint build. I am trying to take a break from the scratchbuilding/modification mess my FOX communuity build Mustang is!
