  1. Well, never mind, already worked a trade out.
  2. Ah yes, I see it now, thanks. Great job, Jarius!
  3. I think they were going for a Round 2 approach with this one by opening up the parts that haven't been in the last few reissues. Something new would have been nice, I agree. I wish Revell would wrap the graphic design on the box sides as well as the top, the way Round 2 does. I like the box art painting. I wonder if Sean Svendsen did this? I know he did their last Roth kit, the Rat Fink w/ Garage.
  4. Yeah, i wish Revell would get something together with their tire licensing. They're doing pad-printed whitewalls, it'd be nice to see some printed RWL's or at least go back to decals. As I understand it, Round2 worked out a blanket tire deal that covers all their lines - plastic kits, die-casts, and slot cars - so they're able to spread the costs across more products. Revell-Germany's new LaFerrari does have branded tires, so don't give up hope!
  5. Revell can and does run kits in the US if the molds are still here. Lindberg does their older kits here as well, and now that they're under the Round2 banner we'll probably start seeing some AMT and MPC kits molded here, too. It really comes down to where the molds are physically located. I don't think they have the ability to do much repair work to the molds here, though, those craftsman have retired and most of the folks who still know how to perform that type of work are in the Far East.
  6. Regarding the kit, I'll echo what Chuck said: If you liked the 62, you'll love the 58/59 kits. This was originally a Pro-Modeler kit and was just that extra bit nicer than contemporary Revellogram kits. One thing I really like about it is the way the front bumperettes, grille, and surrounds are all molded separately which makes making a road racer like this famous one* sooooo much easier than the one-piece unit in the 62. *yeah, I know the more well-known PPE is a 59, but the first one was a 58.
  7. Thanks. And, in hindsight, that is the response I should have posted first instead of what I did. Lesson learned. I always enjoyed your top-ten (or was it however many new kits came out that year?) rankings you used to do for Car Modeler and Scale Auto. Since you're one of the modeling press' review corps, would you care to comment on these (and other) remarks made in this thread about the review process? Did Revell or any other other company ever instruct you or the editorial staff to gloss over flaws in your reviews? Or were you just doing it for the gravy train of free kits?
  8. I think I'm going to put my Fourgonette up for trade, I just need to check that all the parts are there. Anybody wants one keep an eye on the Trading section tomorrow.
  9. Good points, all. This thread is not my finest moment. This is where it got personal for me, and it was the post that prompted my response: Sorry, but I know Ed and I know he does care.
  10. Wow, somebody had a crystal ball, huh? Well, if you forget about the Meng F-350, but that one really did come out of left field.
  11. I knew Frank was the one who said it and it doesn't change what I said, I should have said "you" instead of "some folks" but I thought there had been other posters. I knew what would be coming, so I guess it was a bit preemptive. Not my finest moment, but for chrissakes, it's a freaking instruction sheet we're talking about here!
  12. Looks more like a Chevy grille that's been modified to fit an Oldsmobile.
  13. I think they're basing it on the success of the equally old and fiddly 56 Ford pickup with Roth decals that they've seen fit to do 2 runs of. I sold a ton of those and no one ever asked for their money back.
  14. Aren't moderators supposed to help keep threads on topic?
  15. Sorry, but the thread went off the rails at "typical stupidity" and "joke of a company". That's when it went from being about Revell's 58 Vette to being about Revell. I thought others had chimed in by that point, too, so it wasn't necessarily directed at Frank (who I know personally and would consider a friend) but I knew they'd be along, it's the same cast of characters every time. To be honest I had planned to post a response about how part of my job is matching pictures to our website listings and that I screw up at least twice a week and I guess that's just my typical stupidity and my company is a joke for employing me, but in the end I went with the "some people..." response. It was lazy on my part. Look, I don't have a problem when someone is pointing out the flaws in the kit being discussed, go ahead. It's just that it turns into a game of "well, we've got nothing on this one except the instruction sheet, so let's bring up the Mustang roof one more time..." We're 5 pages into this thread and maybe 1 page is relevant to the 58 and 59 Corvette kits.
  16. As long as the subject stays on the 58 Corvette, that's fine, but so far, other than the instruction gaff, no one has been critical of this kit, just Revell in general. I think that's what gets most folks (me, for one) riled up, bringing up the #@$#%^ Mustang roof in EVERY thread about Revell kits... In the 4 pages of this thread so far, there has been very little critical content relevant to the 58 Vette or its 59 sibling. Start a "Revell Rants" section, so that everyone can go there and vent about Revell's general shortcomings instead of clogging up threads about unrelated kits.
  17. Heavily modified into Tom Daniel's Bad Man, then later into a Street Machine with slot mags. Can no longer be built stock. Body has some pretty funky proportions, though, always has, so no big loss. These are two of the coolest (but poorest) kits ever! The Bad Man just had an SSP reissue not that long ago.
  18. Revell/Pactra Custom Car Contest, Testor's PLA, Hubley, Strombecker... there's several scale modeling ads in there.
  19. Wow, I didn't notice that the Maisto engine bay is one piece, I just took a guess because I knew they had done a 1/24 2011 5.0. That's even more impressive! Some enterprising resin caster should cut one up and sell copies of the cover (if they haven't already).
  20. Do not put enamels into plastic squeeze bottles! I transferred a bunch of Humbrols into Vallejo bottles and they hardened in about a week. Apparently there was a reaction with one of the chemicals in the plastic. Humbrols are in tinlets because they're lighter and able to be packed more densely than paints in glass bottles, saving money on shipping. Even though Humbrols come all the way from England, they're the cheapest hobby paint by volume in the US.
  21. Here are the wheels from the Yenko. Note they have the T70's center cap, not the 5-ear design from the Torq Thrust.
  22. I'll second the AMT 62 Chevys. They have the proper peaked spoke. The Yenko Camaro' s wheels are funky, the spokes are too skinny. *edit* The Yenko' s wheels are what you need. They looked funky because I've been comparing them to original Torq Thrusts and they're not, they're T70's, I see the difference now. I don't think they're right for a Yenko, though. The AMT 62 Chevy and Revell 32 Ford are great for original or D-spoke Torq Thrusts.
  23. I think he pulled the motor and put it into another car. He also has a really cool shorty 56 Chevy station wagon that I think is running the Americans now, he might have dropped the motor into that.
  24. I can speak from my experience in retail that a lot of beginning modelers find the 2 n1 or 3 n1 kits a bit overwhelming and prefer them to have fewer options. Was I disappointed the stock 62 Vette didn't have a hardtop? Yes, but that disappointment quickly faded when I saw how cool the Gasser kit was, it has great engine and suspension parts that will find their way into other projects so if you rob the top the rest won't go completely to waste. Same with the 57 Ford, the Fireball Roberts version is probably the best 50's Nascar kit anyone's done to date, it has more than just no back seat and steel wheels, they really did a good job with that one. If they had just blocked the supercharger parts off the chrome sprue in the first kit we would have never known. I'm glad they split it into a 2nd kit and did the Nascar version properly instead of just having it as 2nd building option like the 57 Chevy Black Widow.
  25. Nope, it's a 58. Blame my crappy cell phone camera...
