  1. I know the COPO was a factory option, but Yenkos were built at Dons dealership after they were delivered from the factory. Did they have anything to do with Chevrolet? Would one of those pass as a "factory stock" vehicle? I would think they were custom built if there was no sales codes to go with them. They had a warrenty from Chev, or the Yenkos dealership? Not trying to argue, just asking. These were a little before my time
  2. Thats a tuff one, I would say they are Custom, I had a "Sothern Comfort" Silverado in here once, lots of little things done to those, paint included. And a Kodiak that was fitted to the hilt with wood grain and screens. But I dont recall if any of it was a factory package. What about Yencos, they were a "factory" upfit correct? there was a sales code for that? Saleen?
  3. Have you had issues where the were not allowed? I think its interesting to hear about how different contests are ran.
  4. I guess I see this two different ways, and here is why. There have been many times that I have reciecved parts for a vehicle waayyyy before it has ever been dropped off from the factory. And once the vehicles were delivered, we had to install said parts ( moslty bolt on stuff, steps, moldings, some video systems), but these parts were built into the vin# with the matching sales codes. If the vehicles went down the road and had problems, ANY Chrysler store could then order factory parts to repair based on the vin#. Now had I sent one of those rig across the street to the body shop and had them flamed or color changed before it was sold, I would not concider that "factory" or "dealer" installed. Because it will not match anything in writing from the factory. So I would have to say, if that Porsche had been delivered and then panted in the dealer to make it "flashy" to sell then it would not be factory stock, where ( and I'm going out on a limb here now) that the Camaro has a sales code for some kind of package groupe the headers would fit in, as far as a factory part.
  5. I didnt know there was a point, I seen the ?, and thought it was a question. My mistake. It is a hypothetical situation, because your building a kit replica of a SITUATION, It came from the factory with them right? If the dealer installed them on a 1:1 car before it was reported sold, then its all factory right? This is a really good question.
  6. I would say factory stock, they came with them from the factory. Now your getting into hypothetical situations from an owners stand point. Do you have the mso for it still, is it 50 state legal It still represents a factory car.
  7. I don't know that I would call that weathered. I think of weatherd I think of "rust" and leaves with flat tires. I see a race car with the grime as a "replica". Now if to do it or not, it depends on if you won't to replicate it before or after the race.
  8. I dont really have any use for instructions, but man is that cool ot have all those kits on one site..VERY cool steve, thanks for sharing. went right into the fav list !!!
  9. I ment, what one of the 100 yugo engines that were used in the making of that monster.
  10. But ,if they did have the instructions it would "have" to be in the box stock class ? Or is it up the them at that point?
  11. Are you sure it wasnt an escort, built to look like an olds ??? Man thats alot of work but really, thats the problem with car shows, its all about the taste, and range of the judge(s), to him ( and I'm not trying to dig at any previous posts I made) it may have looked like another "painted" truck to him.....or it was his brothers. Crappy deal non the less...do you have any pics to email?, love me a mini truck !!!
  12. I can respect that. Come to think about it, its a lot like someone tossing some vinal on the side and calling it custom. Maybe some one should write a rule book. Would those two be in the same class? I guess I need to get to a few shows and see how these things are ran
  13. I think this sums it all up. I dont see how a chopped merc would go in anything but the custom catogory, even if it was "box stock" built...same with the 48 ford kit. Someone had mentioned that is should be juged on what the model represents,..factory, custom, race..
  14. Then why do you call it "custom" work ? I do it as well, but I would say something as radical a paint jobs as this does make it a custom vehicle. There is an absence of trim and door handles, and the bumper/ grill has been modified, doesnt that count for custom work? Seems to sit a little lower then "stock" as well.
  15. This is very much a custom car. Striping a car down to do full color change and grafix on top of that is no small feat. If you do that same thing to an Harley, its a custom bike right ?
  16. If I had to chose where to put my merc, I would probly go with the custom category, it's not military or industrial . I think it get muddy when you talk about classes and catogorys myself
  17. I like to think that you can't have a body modification with out paint ....hint hint but there are alot of great customs that with out the flashy paint you would never know the body had been changed at all....with out a LOT of looking
  18. I get what our saying, but Ive never understood that term...how can it be custom, if everyone like it is the same ? Something Ford has always lost me on..
  19. I guess I didnt catch the entire question. Is it about the catagory or the way its built? I would say it would belong where ever the individual felt the most confident. Do most shows seperate the entrys by build "style" or in the way the person built it. If I built a #3 Impala out of the box, would it go in the box stock class or the "racing/ motor sports" catagory, or the box stock class in the racing catagory ? (if there is such a thing)
  20. My only reason for asking was, I've seen in other magazines that will do "readers rides" type of articles. And I know that there are as many people that like to draw as there is those that like to build. I was wondering how the art work was collected for the issues. One of the few issues I have been able to pick up had the "bubble tops" by mr. Watson Jim self. It had me thinking about other bubble top ideas, ( as it should) , and I was thinking it would be cool to see what other may have come up with after seeing those types of spreads. Like a "readers ride" section. Not that everyone doesn't have enough to sort out for the magazine as it is.
  21. It was called the "luce R130", and there is always a way !!! But there is always an easier way too. Maybe not the best bang for your buck, but you would get a butt load of attention
  22. I'm curious how that works, is the art work paid for or just submitted? Are the three of them contacted with a few ideas for the next couple issue topics and asked to come up with something or is the spread just chosen from what's made available? Just thinking out loud is all.
  23. Depends on the mood, some kits will strike a memory and I'll get stuck in the past for a wile, remembering my dads old street rodder mags, or I'll see something parked down town and want to smash together something with a turbo or two....
