  1. Thanks TXRat... I was being sorta lazy there. I actually have that site and many others bookmarked. I guess it's time for some research, which is always fun since this is my fave sport. Englishtown was great, posting pix of that on the thread i started on it soon. Time to go a searchin.. Bob Frias
  2. I just bought an NOS kit of this car and I'm wondering something. Who ran this type of car WITH the shotgun motor? And if so, are there decals for it that exist? I know someone knows the answer..... I'll be grateful as it is probably going to be my Lions dragway build-off entry. Bob F
  3. I guarnatee that's the same guy who sold me my first set of Snake N Mongoose decals. That guy is an idiot. he doesn't say that the white portions are not printed in his descriptions. Decals from the actual kit come up now and then. good luck... Bob
  4. I'll be driving up from Balmer in the AM. Should arrive at 10:00 EST. Perhaps we have a few others going? I heard some mention a while back in one of the threads around here. LOTSA pix!! I'll be the guy with the long hair and the hawaiian print shirt [that'll make about 1,000 of us! LOL] I'll have the NE accent, that'll be a dead giveaway! Bob
  5. There is almost no chrome on the real car, why have a chrome sprue at all? And those molded on belts!! With subject matter of this size even Revell in the 70's put rubber belts on their TF/Funny car kits. It's easier to mold round pullys and supply belt material. Most of it does look quite nice but I question the logic of the belt and the chrome sprue. I have felt for a long time that co's should offer 2 versions of akitwith chrome sprues and without them. It saves them money anyway. And it saves many of us the hassle of de-chroming and having to deal with the barrier left behind in order to either re-chrome or paint the item in its correct color. Not only that, I despise parting lines so it all gets sanded anyway. With a kit of this order of magnitude, I should not have to buy an aftermarket kit to make a truly accurate and pleasing model. The aftermarket can certainly up the ante, but the belts and perhaps some other niggles will make it [for me] a head scratcher at this price level. I'll still pony up for it of course. Bob
  6. TEA CANDLE TINS!!! Frikkin Genius!!! I'm robbing some tonight. Mums always has em going and I know where the bag of em are! They'll scale out right, they'll be poyfect! This belongs in the tips thread...... Now, when I get back to building................................................. Bob
  7. I'm currently listening to Lamb of God's new album Wrath. My playlist includes BLS, Thy Will Be Done, As I Lay Dying, and if I feel nostaligic [which is often] I'll slap on some Thin Lizzy, Zep or maybe some Beatles. I listen to lots of aggresive metal though. Bob
  8. Well guys, with the onset of Summer upon us I pack up all my modeling gear till the Fall. I had hoped to get more done on this project and at least post a few more progress pix but there has been little in the way of that. Other than things that have yet to be attached there is little to see. I'll still be prowling these pages of course but building has always gotten sidelined during the warm days of the year in my case. I'm still buying PE items and kits all summer so I will stay up to speed, but the building is now shut down till the days begin to grow shorter. The truth of it is I'm going to be working on my 1:1 project which is putting a supercharged Ecotec into my 2000 cavalier SS. If it goes well and I'm able to pony up the needed cash I will have quite the sleeper on my hands. As it is I will be outdoors most of the summer and working out in my new gym. I even uninstalled Battlefield II!!!! I'll be watching and commenting as time allows. I'll be @ Englishtown June 13, 14 with my Dad, and will be hitting the many East Coast tracks as well this summer. Richmond is close by and that will be fun later in the year. Enjoy the Summer and get out!!!!! Bob Frias AKA: Dragline
  9. I'll be at Englishtown on the 13th and 14th with my dad. Haven't been there in 8 years. Last time I was htere I was crewing my buddy Dave Missions Super Stock Camaro, we had tranny troubles though. Gonna be fun. Bob
  10. 67, 68 Big Block Shelby's and my old Factory Five Cobra. I miss the old girl................. Bob
  11. Awesome dude..... Danke Bob
  12. Links? I couldn't get anyhting with GooGle Bob
  13. Stunning Randy. Dodge with a Hemi, they ruled the strips [and still do] for years. I have a Landy Charger here. Maybe someday I'll get to it. Bob
  14. For a guy who used to follow the directions and rush this is the next level for sure. Please, never build them like you used to ever again. I can only imagine that the results [which are most excellent BTW], are feeling very rewarding at this time. So what have we learned? 1: NEVER follow the kits plans............ 2: DO something to enhance the stock kit. 3: NEVER listen to some Schmuck on the Internet. 4: Disregard everything I've written and HAVE FUN modeling at your own pace and level. This is making me want to whip out my own Mustang II kit. How I wished they'd have molded it in white. I'll bet there was a sale on red styrene. I'll be watching this. Bob F
  15. I'm in of course. I have just the "secret weapon" kit at the ready. Bob F
  16. JJ=Jungle Jim' SR 1-R= SwampRat 1-R Glad you volunteered to help us. It is very much appreciated. Bob
  17. I replied in my own Garlits thread but I'll echo it here as well bigwrench. BY ALL MEANS BRO! Please take as many pix as you can. I'm in dire need of some for the JJ car as well as SR 1-R. Any and all are welcomed my friend. If I can do ANYTHING for you, please don't hesitate to ask. Bob F
  18. Starting to look like something now. Where's your nemesis' build? Is he just going to spring it on us fully realized or will there be a WIP type photo montage? Inquiring minds and all.. Bob F
  19. Heck Yeah we want pix! As many as you can rustle up. If I had to pick I'd say the JJ car and the SR 1-R [i'm being selfish here but he did ask what I wanted]. Is the JJ car still there? If so, I would like detail pix of that [fuel, brake, drivers area, body tin from the inside]. you know, stuff we could all use to make a seriously accurate JJ car. I have a 1/16 in the wings and have been buying things like fuel lines and fittings and other goodies. I would like to build THE most accurate replica out there and pix would go a LOOOOOONG way to achieving that. That said, is there anything I could do for you in the means of a barter? A way of thanking you... Please let us all know and many thanks for the offer. PS: ANY Garlits car pictures [detailed] are welcome here. Bob F
  20. I got a nice chunk of change for a JJ Vega body I sold on eBay 5 years ago. I had somehow lost the rest of the kit [where do these things go???] but the body was done and it came out rather sweet. It was complete and clearcoated and two guys from Oshkosh [not sure about that, but it sounds funny] fought over it. Final sale price floored me. I was happy to send it honestly. That body may be on some guys slot drag car right this moment tearing up the track... When you speak of a "pure" market, the buyers set the price. It's whatever someones willing to pay. Some people will have no truck with buying, painting and all that, when they can buy it already done by someone who did a great job. Then, they look cool and have a great item that they themselves would never have put the time into. This is why diecasts do well IMO. Bob F
  21. Thanks oldman. I'm going to order a set Sat morn. Looks like it'll be 80's degrees here in Baltimore so I'm skating all day. Just got my 40" Pocket Pistols slalom deck all set up so I'm hitting the asphalt all day. I have made some progress with my build and will post new pics in a day or so. You all know how it can be, just not feelin it sometimes. Been like that for at least a week but I worked on it tonight but mostly things that will be attached later. I have the pump and fuel lines mocked up and they look good so that is possibly next although the scratch built clutch and hand controls are beckoning to be fastened. I need to spray the interior tin Metalizer titanium. Perhaps that's what I'll do later tonight. I'm also replacing that blower belt. I cringe every time I look at it now. TOOOOOOOO thick. Bob F OH! Thanks for the decal offer, but as you can see I'm now past that. Most appreciated though.
  22. It is indeed a clearcoat of some kind, but I submit this: Aren't you dechroming to remove the parting lines? In my experience [i'm new to Alclad I admit], the point of dechroming is to remove unsightly and unrealistic parting lines. So, since you will be sanding the item, it makes sense to reseal it afterward. A glossy finish is mandatory unless you are going so another type of look/finish. Just an observation. Bob F
  23. Awesome paint dude. PSyChoDEliC like! See, now I have to get a hauler for one of my Funny's. Sure, I'm jealous..... I wonder what Garlits used? I'll bet it was an enclosed trailer...................... Nice. Bob F
  24. Super tight....... Those old Revell kits are still great. I have a couple in the queue. Got a Snake Vega and a Snowman Charger. Now, I just need to quit my job and build cars all day. I can dream........................ Well done. Bob F
  25. Great stuff seeds. You should get lots of comments. Nice ink work. Bob
