  1. May's meeting was another good one. Nick "The Locust" Kern was absent, so everybody got a shot at the food today. The contest and display tables featured some great models and Ron Bradley, Ron Shirey and George Johnson dragged in a few hundred kits for sale. (Who needs WalMart anyway?) Jack Bouman must have an account at Sears hardware judging from his Firebird F/C. And Mike Hemp took a shine to a classic treatment of one of your basic black pick-ups. And I guess this is Blair Pletcher's take on the grim reaper's company car... For the rest of the photos, click here if you dare.
  2. That's just beautiful, Irv! I'd love to see these things run sometime...
  3. Can't you just drive that thing out back and hose it off?! There's a lot of neat detail on the truck, and it's a cool subject to boot!I love it!
  4. Yikes! I missed this one earlier. Nicely done! It's beautiful! Fishes CAN come true!
  5. Well I haven't griped yet. I was considering it, but I'm trapped in Cleveland for a week, and if I'm gonna gripe, it'll be about that! The Camaro is outstanding!! Well done!
  6. This just gets more complicated. We often have awards given out at our club meetings...now what are we supposed to call them?!
  7. That is a good question. Frankly, I never worried all that much about it, but now I'm curious. We hold an annual (our 9th year this year) "contest" that is judged by spectators only, though technically it's not a "judged" show, which if it was, would then make it a contest, which indeed it is. I dont' know if we're a junior NNL or what you'd call us. We have a blast , though.
  8. Have you seen my models? Some of us are all thumbs. In which case this Willys gets a full 10-card pointing skyward! It's just right.
  9. Correction...it's completely unmatched. I haven't seen this much useless slop slung since the HHMB days.
  10. I thought I left this kind of stuff behind when I came to this forum.
  11. My heavens ...this is only a scant month or so away, isn't it? When all you guys and gals who are attending the NNL in Wayne, NJ get home from the show, don't pack those models away. Keep 'em ready for the road and head to Towson, MD on the 10th of May! Among others, Replicas & Miniatures will be there, and what better way to go through a bunch of your hard-earned cash than to trade it to Norm Veber for some of the best resin products in the Universe, if not the world!! (So Lyle...do I get brownie points for bringing this back up toward the top of the posts? Hmmmm?)
  12. I love the internet...it provides a global forum in which my bestest buds can freely bust my chops. Now even hobbyists in Pago-Pago know I can't finish anything...good OR bad. Remember boys...I control the club newsletter and web site content. Be afraid. Be very afraid...BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
  13. Man, you have no idea. The meetings just get better and better each month, and they were never bad to start with! Attendance, and the participation in all the contests has been growing and the "vibe" at each meeting is pure fun. I'm blown away by what I see these guys bring in each month...and I even found out how I can get a car stereo cheap! (Very much an inside joke from this month's meeting! )
  14. Your beating (as reward for your blatant insolence) will be meted out at the meeting Saturday. That is unless I actually complete the project, in which case I'll be in such a state of euphoria for actually finishing something that I won't have the heart to pummel you. Good luck with that.
  15. Man, what great build-up! The steelies and chubby tires really set this off! The thing is just evil, mean and nasty! (As a muscle car ought to be!)
  16. I was rooting through some aftermarket wheels I have (project classified, so dont' ask) and found that the larger diameter wheel and tire sets (any of the 23") from Pegasus are "jammed" into the same packaging used for the standard wheels. I pulled a couple and found them slighty deformed, sporting flat spots where they were snug against the packaging. It also appears that the "rubber" isn't the same as used on some of the older sets, and held the deformation after being removed from the package. Pegasus does such a nice job with their wheels that it'd be a shame to reach for a set to finish off a killer project only to find they are boogered up. I've removed all of them from the packs and will store them wrapped in tissue paper and tucked into some resealable poly bags. I'm just giving you all a heads up to check the ones you might have squirreld away for that special build-up.
  17. One more CPMCC banquet like the last one, and I could make a Donk ride that low! On one side at least...
  18. Take a breath and please re-read my post. I acknowledged that I don't like them but I admire the workmanship. I also cited that I'd read the origin of the name elsewhere. And my reference, though exaggerated, to the wheels being out of scale to the car is not all that inaccurate, now is it? Instead of jumping up and down and throwing a rammy, please give us your explanation of what a donk is and the origin of the name. I don't presume to know it all, and I sure DON'T know ###### about them. Maybe that's where you can step in and help me understand it a bit better. I obviously rubbed your fur the wrong way with my post, and apologize.
  19. In a nut shell...Picture a 1:32 car running on 1:18 scale custom wheels. The "donk" name originated from Impalas first exhibiting this customizing style, which is similar to new school low-rider customizing touches on a late model body lifted skyward by grossly oversized wheels. Street speak references to the Impala badge as a "donkey" later evolved to "donk". (kind of like slang on top of slang) It later came to refer to any body style finished in a similar manner. I read about the origin of the donk name somewhere and it makes enough sense to me that I have adopted it as "the scoop". As with some other customizing styles, I really don't care much for it personally, but the ones that are well done are to be admired for their outstanding paintwork and engineering. I just dislike the art, not the artist.
  20. All of them are looking good, but I do like the Mustang best. Al three are nice concepts, and more importantly, nicely executed. The metal parts give them a unique flair.
  21. Not sure what wheels, but I hear he's gonna use Yolkahama tires...
  22. Happy Easter from the CPMCC... Click here for a nifty greeting card. It'll take a moment to open if you have a slower internet connection.
  23. Well, you are dealing with Nick here...so do what I do...take a deep breath and continue on. By the way, this project is shaping up nicely. I'm liking it, especially with the chrome steelies and the way they contrast with that Volkswagen BLUE you picked.
  24. Oh yeah, it does look cheesy. But, I was 8 years old once, lived and died for the cartoon and I'll probably pick up a copy of the DVD when they're going for 5 bucks on the discount racks! Or better yet, I'll see it for free on a plane or hotel room while away on business...
  25. I like what I'm seeing here. As far as re-releases, that is a great start. Depending on what they are, to many builders they might as well be new tools. I remember kits from my youth that dissappeared never to be heard from again. Imagine re-releases of everything that has ever gone missing! (Okay, maybe after I die and go to heaven...) I'll certainly be anxiously awaiting new tooling like everyone else, but in the mean time, it'll be fun to watch for some "where the heck has this mold been hiding" re-issues. Looks like I'll be falling in love with AutoWorld all over again!
