  1. That's just gorgeous. I knew the new Nova wouldn't sit around long before you went to town on it. Outstanding!
  2. Okay, now that comment's just side-splitting funny. I think this build represents everything that is good and right about scale modeling. It also nails solidly the look of a "retro mod" treatment of a 60's era muscle car...whether it actually existed or not. You can pretty much never go wrong with factory rallye wheels...a cowl induction hood...an insane engine...and the retina searing color doesn't take anything away from it either! You are hereby granted official permission to keep building and posting photos of this kind of model. I'm not necessarily a "hater" of the other style you're more in tune with, but given the choice... Take a bow and just graciously wait for the applause to settle down a bit before leaving the stage!
  3. I can't add much to what has already been said. It's a dynamite build!
  4. If my paint looks good, all I can say is it's just smoke & mirrors, baby! John's paint however is the real deal. Thank you, though. There was an amazing T-Bolt p-e detail kit offered by a company that I believe went the way of the Dodo...I thought I had one, but haven't been able to put my hands on it. Maybe Model Car Garage can see fit to do one, especially with Revell announcing a street version of the 64 Fairlane.
  5. And, we hold the same title...however I prefer being called "The WB"...it sounds better.
  6. I had hoped this "smackdown" would have long been forgotten...reckon I was wrong. At least now I have an idea just how high you raised the bar... If I give it my absolute best effort, at least they'll look like fraternal twins...but yours will always be the prettier one. And Nick, for the record, the engine halves are together. And I got as far as this on the body. I removed the 427 scripts, which will be decals, or if I'm really lucky, p-e. At least the color is correct; I used MCW Vintage Burgundy. It's not yet polished, since I'm waiting to spray the Britney, er...I mean spears white before I rub out the burgundy.
  7. Man, your work is clean. The factory wheels look great on the Camaro. This takes me back to high school, when these were all over town, and if it wasn't in the budget for a set of Cragars, it was something from the factory that got bolted on to look a little different. (Thanks for not going the air shock route! LOL!) You captured the look perfectly. And I might add you probably executed the best treatment of the headlight trim I've ever seen on this model. It's a shame such a great kit has such nasty trim cast into it, but you knocked this one out of the park! Take a bow!
  8. That WAS the exotic dancer for the August meeting...apparently the economy has had an adverse impact on even the most essential budgets.
  9. Just some shots from the meeting friday a week ago. I just now got to uploading them to fotki. As always, some pretty cool stuff. And here's the link to the rest
  10. I'm guessing that was a concession to allow the rear window to travel up and down. The tail gate is relatively short, and a full size window probably wouldn't have been able to articulate fully if it's shape matched the opening. Am I close?
  11. In a nutshell...449 registered entries. 200 pairs of feet through the door. Lots of people asking if there was an ATM nearby. 22 tropihes awarded, lots of happy vendors, lots of satisfied participants. I have to give a round of applause to the CPMCC members who helped out, the trophy sponsors, door prize donors, contest participants, Len at Fantastic Plastics and all the vendors. They made it happen. Our announcer Tom Gunshannon kept people posted on what was going on, and club prez Mike Cole doled out the trophies. Jim Weir managed to get all those throphies engraved and delivered, even the one he dropped last week and managed to replace in time for the show! A special big time thanks to Karen Putt, who in addition to putting up with Vince, setup a photo rig and shot dozens of participants' models. Lyle shot every single model on the table, and he among others should have photos posted soon. All I can say is "thanks"...about a million times! And yes, there will be a 10th Super September Showdown in 2009. Mark your calendars for September 13th, 2009. It already booked!!
  12. I'm going to contend they would be air conditioning lines...whether the model represents an A/C car or not. That's the only accessory on that side of the engine that would have anything even remotely similar to what's laid on the inner fender. Check out this link...it's a slide show of a 67. This is all I'm basing my statement upon. Oh, and this was indeed a beautiful build-up of a beautiful car. Even if it doesn't have air...
  13. Yeah...nice build, bro...but you already have one "recuperation build" featured in next month's newsletter. What are you trying to pull, big guy? You gunnin' for the cover or something?
  14. That sir, is one nicely done Starliner! I have several of them unbuilt, and every time I see how great they look when completed it makes me want to crack one open...problem is, I have one of most of the kits anyone builds and the same thing happens when I see them. I'm skrood. I'll never get anything done at this rate. You picked a great color, and you can't go wrong with those wheels. Again, nice job!
  15. That is gorgeous! I don't like that vintage of Chevy pick-up...normally. The wheels and stance are perfect! I'm totally in favor of your "the less chrome the better" approach! Needless to say, this is featured in the next newsletter!!
  16. That's an understatement! I had the kit, and probably sold it to Tom Gunshannon or someone else in the York club, and the main reason was that I already had a half dozen AMTs and the different brand and box didn't impress me me.
  17. That's just too cool for words! I love it!
  18. Man that's a squeaky clean build! Wow! I love it.
  19. The hub caps came from the Lindberg "stock" Dodge 330...the one with the slant six, blue box art car.
  20. I've been so far between builds for me that seeing your incredible build-up brought back some good memories of my joust with the same kit. You did a great job with it, and as you look at mine, you'll see we took a similar approach...somewhat subtle, not too flashy...'course mine's legal because it has a license plate! First 3 Photos courtesy of Mike Cole The following were my photos...I can't blame Mike for them. And in the raw, as it were... Funny thing is, I really hated the kit, but loved the subject and the end result, though it has some things I'd change if I did it again, turned out okay. The more I look at yours, the more I like it!
  21. You really did a beautiful job! I can even see that from all the way out here in Salt Lake City!
  22. Hey, those of us who were there felt that way too! As an aside, I (actually, the club) got a nice e-mail from Darwin Doll, the organizer of the show, and we are going to be a part of this event as long as he is able to keep doing them! If he keeps doing these long enough, a certain Thunderbolt model might even get completed! (There, I beat you to it!)
  23. I'm still suffering a racing gas hangover and an open header ear ache from when the cars motored out of the hall...best pain I ever enjoyed. It was almost better than se...uh, sliced bread. Yea, that's it...sliced bread.
  24. For 6 of the past 7 years, our club has been a featured exhibit at the York Expo Center and it never ceases to amaze me how much attention we get from the participants and spectators. In a crowd like this, model cars have a unique appeal because pretty much everyone in the hall either built or builds models. We cobbled up a quick and dirty faux staging lane diroama which actually looked pretty good when it was all said and done. We have plans to (hopefully) build a more permanent display with a replica of the US30 Cragar timing tower for next year. The young kid is Lewis Hicks, a junior member of the club who builds pretty much any kit you put in front of him; vintage pro stock, muscle car, top fuel, hot rods, show rods...we can't wait to see what he brings to the next meeting! The old kid in the back is our club prez, Mr Mike Cole. He appears to be deep in thought, perhaps contemplating the purchase of yet another turkey sandwich from the concession stand outside the hall... The hall had about 200 cars in it, all of them uber cool. One of the featured events is a cackle fest, when select open-header cars fire up and rattle the rafters. If you haven't experienced it, you never will again, as the zoomies on a vintage rear engine rail managed to spew enough heat and fumes to set off the fire alarm, resulting of course in a bunch of fire apparatus responding to the hall several minutes later. And the big (little?) winner as selected by the show organizers, was Jim Stempfl's (I think I killed the spelling) SWC Willys. Notice how well this big version captures the look of the model! Amazing! And for scads more photos, clickify HERE.
  25. Wait! That's a rhetorical question, right? On a separate matter. I don't know where you and your pops were yesterday, but the Muscle Car Madness show was amazing. You guys would have enjoyed it...especially when the couple hundred cars in the hall started parading out to their trailers around 9PM...and nary a muffler in the bunch!
