Don't think of it as sucking up...just say you are a partner in a cooperative marketing plan...yeah, that's it. Sounds better than "sucking up". -

Ok fellas...it's official. My name has legally been changed to Floyd Spielberg and I will be producing an epic film about the automotive customizing industry called Car Wars, starring Robin Williams as Chip Foose and Danny Devito in the role of Boyd Coddington...with a cameo by Harrison Ford and Chevy Chase. Oh, and by the way, that cub scout's mom was freakin' HOT! -
My spider sense tells me this was probably not taken by a model builder. Hence, the odds of seeing it recovered by a sharp-eyed model contest attendee or participant are kind of slim. The Goodguys crew needs to post it on their web site. And eBay might be a good place to monitor, too. Full size vehicles have been stolen from shows...why not a model? This was just a heck of a lot easier. And it certainly speaks volumes about the character of the shlub who took it. Decorum prevents the use of the epithets that first come to mind.

Very nicely done. Sometimes we are our own worst critics. It's still a winner.

I want a kit of this!
Daniel Peterson replied to Darin Bastedo's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Gadzooks! I like it! I might not pine for a kit, but I'd sure like to borrow the keys for a day or two... -
Just checking...my CPMCC avatar was deleted a while because of the size...so I subbed my almost famous "Floyd Ploddington" photo.

Great execution! The flames look great!!

Looks great! Not a kit I've seen built very often, and it is treat to see one done this nicely.

That looks like a real Saturday night street racer that might have a glove box full of tickets for "exhibition of speed". I love the overall look, but when you start looking at the details, Yikes!! Outstanding!

I can't say much that hasn't already been said. The Ghia of yours is a fine example of a wonderful concept finding its way to an even better execution. Bravo!

Revell/Monogram Sold?
Daniel Peterson replied to a topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
This is intersting and all, and probably not bad news looking at the surface of it all...but has anything happened with AMT/Ertl? Did I miss the news about Hobbico buying them too? -

Best wishes for a speedy and comfortable recovery for your Mom! The interior is looking great, but it can certainly wait till Mom's hale and hearty again. -
Put Up or Shut UP !
Daniel Peterson replied to Reliable Resin's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Yeah, Gregg! Give Paeth a chance! Get it? Give Paeth a chance? Give peace a chance? Lordy, I do crack me up. It would be interesting to see a tutorial on the plastic welding. I haven't read every model magazine ever printed, but I know I haven't seen that done in any that I did manage to read. -
I really do not like H2s or H3s as rule, but WOW! I really like this one!! Oustanding!

As one door closes, another opens...best of luck in whatever direction your destiny takes you! So...this rediscovered free time means you'll be at more Silent Traffic meetings? Hmm? -
I don't see much chrome on the car...maybe it has Bare Metal Foibles?

Take the pledge!
Daniel Peterson replied to Modelmartin's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
No disrespect intended...but can I pick the group I have to hug? There's a pretty long list, and none of them have ever posted here, if'n ya know what I mean. Besides, I recently hugged Cruz at a club meeting, and I think that covers me for for now...I promise I'll do it again in another 45 years...right after I finish my Thunderbolt. -
All that nice work and you didn't wire the gee-tar?! Sheesh! I do like the tu-tone. The lines of the car are nicely complimented that way. It's a very sharp looking, clean build. Dang fine work, as usual! As an aside, has anybody hacked into one of these to make a Ute out of it? I don't know why that just popped into my head, but I figured I'd ask.

Take the pledge!
Daniel Peterson replied to Modelmartin's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
(Gentlemen, please stand and remove your hats...) I pledge allegiance to the spirit of the Model Cars Magazine forum, and to the intended use for which it stands, one forum, under Gregg, indivisible, with tolerance and temperance for all. (fireworks and the din of a brass band in the background) There has been so much monkey poo flung with reckless abandon around here over the past week or so relative to Reliable Resins, I think it's time to change our Theune. (Not a shot at Don, just a simple play on words, 'kay?) Like him and his products? Some do. Don't like him and his products? Some don't. Deal with it your own way, but just keep the feces outta da forum! (In my best Napoleon Dymanite: Gosh!) I admit I don't build much. I spend my time working, spending what little time with my teenage son he'll allow, publishing a newlsetter, managing a web site and squeezing sleep and a model club meeting or two wherever there's room left. (Missing the MAMA meeting today because of work...) I would love to "put up" when it comes to building, but the time is just not there right now. I have projects underway that I wish I could finish, because I know you guys would dig 'em. And more importantly, I would love to get them done so I can enjoy them in their finished form. Coming here and finding the bickerfests underway is disheartening and does harken back to my days spent at another site, which I now rarely frequent. For some of us who are pressed for time, it is the last thing we want to see. It reminds me of the contractor who deals with his material suppliers and subcontractors like a real man face to face, but when the project manager or superintendent walks in, he goes Jeckyll/Hyde and starts posturing for his boss, and treating you completely differently. I wonder how many of the bickerposts would be toned or worded differently if they were not given in front of an audience. So yes, I do, to the best of my limited ability, pledge to keep it in perspective when I come here. No personal attacks, tolerance whenever possible, and a constructive contribution whenever posssible... -
tire scuffing tool
Daniel Peterson replied to jeffb's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
That's the ticket. I've given that tip (as I am sure plenty of other hobbyists have) to lots of folks. It's even featured on our web site, among some other simple building tips: http://www.freewebs.com/cpmcc/modelingtips.htm If I had (I did at one time, don't anymore...long painful story...) a machine shop, I would go the extra mile and tailor tool size to common tire sizes, but a bolt, nut and washers does the trick nicely. The advantage over the sandpaper/knee/TV method (which I confess I still use on occasion) is that the "turning" method renders a more even/consistent surface with less effort. Besides, guys should use power tools whenever possible, no matter how small the job, and as God intended. One way to make the tool "to size" would be to use a series of progressively sized pieces of tube (brass, plastic, aluminum) as collars that fit over each other until you take some of the slop out of difference between the tire i.d. and the bolt o.d.
