That's one sharp Dart(pun intended). I love big-motored A body Mopars, and you did a great job on it. Me and my Nikon will be looking for it on the table next Saturday in Jersey for sure!
-
I believe it was actually called 'Bahama Yellow,' and the Mopar color code was EL5, if memory serves correctly....I also call it 'butterscotch' any time I see it, however. Here's a big and little 'Runner I found on another site:

I thought the 1st pic was black & white....that's one very cool and low-key E-body. Me likey!

Hanging Up The #11s For A Long While
VW Dave replied to Lownslow's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
A very wise man once said, "we mock what we do not understand." If I took to heart the negative comments and critiques I've heard from every rivet counter and knowitall about what cars I'm into(both in 1:1 and smaller scale), this hobby would be minus yet another....but I also believe another old adage: "That which doesn't kill me, makes me stronger." While I'm no fan of many of the 1:1 donks I see due to glaring safety oversights, IMO seeing them done in scale is a good thing because it means that somebody is doing what we all claim to be into: BUILDING MODEL CARS. -
I believe the original knockoff Halibrands had the stems in by the spokes, so they wouldn't be as visible as newer aftermarket wheels....I voted 'real.'

Isn't that a redundant statement? I gave up on Mapquest after they got me lost in NJ twice. ajulia - I can't really help with your trip, but I'm looking forward to meeting you after we're both there.

Nnl East 2008 Roll Call
VW Dave replied to Gregg's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I'll be there, and I would love to don an MCM badge; Thanks, Gregg! -
Thanks for kind words, all; it means a lot to me.

I'll miss the Friday gallivanting, but I do get to sleep in my own bed; we're departing at "0-dark-thirty" from Matt T.'s house, and dragging NNL virgin 'mhadman' Mark H. along with us. I'm really looking forward to seeing everybody there, and I agree with Billy that nothing beats this show for inspiration. Travel safe, all.

So I Got My Hase Tr Today
VW Dave replied to CAL's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
By your topic heading, I thought you had picked up one of these: Hase is the German word for 'Rabbit.' -
Psssst...wanna See More Of Jada's Shelby Gt500?
VW Dave replied to Zoom Zoom's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
If no sooner, I'll be looking to get my mitts on one of those kits at the NNL East.....even with b.gass wheels, I know my neighbors would love a model of their 'baby' on the mantle: FWIW, I have a handful of my reference and 'artsy' photos here: '07 GT500 -
If you still want to build it, I have gobs of extra upholstery material in both colors I'll send you for free...the store has a minimum purchase of 1/4 yard, and I only wound up using about 6 or 7 square inches of each. I've also got spare curb feeler material and photoreduced CrackerJack boxes, as well as lots of good photos of the real car I will gladly share. Thanks for the kind words.

I've been secretly working on this gem since October of last year, and doing my best to keep it on the down-low. It's about 99.9% done, so I'm calling it so while I finish it off for good in the next day or so. JOE DIRT RIDES AGAIN I had a blast building it, and I hope anyone who peeks at my album enjoys it half as much as I do.

Porsche 356a 1500gs Carrera Speedster-polished Body
VW Dave replied to simonr's topic in WIP: Model Cars
As this is a family-oriented board, I can't repeat the words I used verbatim when I saw those pics......needless to say, I'm very impressed by the paint and polish. -
Car's got a great stance, and I'm a huge fan of cycle fenders on hot rods....the copper-colored wheels are staying, right? They look righteous on there as well.

How about some Re-Introductions?
VW Dave replied to Steve H.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I'd love to see pics of that oval-window, Joe, and I must admit I'm a little jealous....I didn't get my first 1:1 Beetle until I was 23(still have it BTW ) My turn: Dave Carnevale, certifiable car guy and styrene addict. I'll be 38 much later this year, been building pretty much since age 7, and I'm a lifelong resident of the 'forgotten' upstate New York. (Most NYC & NJ folk refer to Westchester county as 'upstate,' which makes us Albany-area residents Canadian by default ) I'm a member of the TNMCC, although the distance makes it hard to attend more than 1 or 2 meetings a year. I've been married to my wonderful wife Jennifer for just over 4 years, she has built one model so far, and she is ready to move on to the next build....we are expecting our first child this coming November. Our two Pug dogs, Ralphie and Phoebe, should do well as older(albeit furry) siblings. By my moniker, one can assume that I'm into Volkswagens - that is correct, but not the whole story. I also enjoy a lot of other cars, particularly Mopar muscle cars and traditional hot rods; it's no secret that in recent years I've become a big fan of weathered vehicles, and I have been working on stocking my buddy's G-gauge model railroad(1/22.5 scale) with a junkyard full of vehicles. Like most northeasterners I build model cars in the colder months, and tinker with my 1:1 toys all summer. Here's my '68 Meyers Manx and my '68 Beetle project: Having the Saratoga Automobile Museum and Rolling Bones Hot Rod Shop within a half hour drive of home is great for a guy like me who is into a little of everything automotive. I attended my first model car contest in '87, built models like there was no tomorrow, and went through a short period of trophy hound behavior in my late teens...luckily I survived with my dignity and hobby intact. Except for a stray local show here and there, I pretty much only attend the NNL East. I nowadays finish maybe 2 to 4 models a year, and I find a tremendous amount of joy in helping others; Matt Trotta and I have put on a couple of 'Make & Take' events at the Saratoga Auto Museum over the past few years, and it's great to see youngsters getting enthused about our hobby. I've found that the real awards in our hobby are the friendships we form and the enjoyment that building models brings us. This thread was a cool idea for sure, and I concur the family atmosphere on this board is superior to the others. -
I steered clear of voting or commenting on this one, as I had seen it on another car forum a year or so ago.......I wonder if it's done yet?
-
I saw this on another message board but hadn't responded yet...I love-love that color scheme, Bob. You figure this one will be ready for the NNL East next month?
-
Right back atcha, Michael.
-
Those look like mighty big flakes, which I dig.....what paint(s) did you use?
-
I agree, that's a great save....making something from nothing is very satisfying, and when it comes out that cool I call that a bonus.
-
As usual, this was a tough one....but I'm gonna say 'model.'

How To Scratchbuild Turbos??
VW Dave replied to moonlite5hadow's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Hiroboy's turbos are made by The Parts Box, out of Australia; I've ordered from them once so far, and it was a great experience. Their web address is: www.thepartsbox.com -
If you have a well-stocked office supply store nearby, you might wanna investigate tinted report covers: The material is very thin, so it is both flexible and closer to scale thickness than kit glass. I glued it in with clear enamel and Micro Krystal Kleer.

I received a couple of models from LVZ2881(James) yesterday, and he got mine today; all went well, and I'd be glad to trade with him again. Thanks, James!
