  1. I say 'model' this time, looks like a big scale one, and I'm pretty sure that's one of those functional V8's to boot.......R/C maybe?
  2. Pretty much my M.O. as well; if a new show pops up that I haven't been to before, I might bring a few out of the archives. After that apearance, those specific models kinda get 'retired' from traveling.
  3. I've heard it referred to as the 'Raisin Bran' hood as well. I'd agree Don is the 'go to guy,' and from what I've seen up close his stuff is really nice.
  4. I don't recall a conversion kit being offered, but that would be nice and tidy indeed....I'm doing a '79 as well, and I spent the past several months tracking down the hood and grille from the old MPC 'Pumpin Iron' kit to make it work.
  5. A-ha!! I've been wracking my brain the past few hours, trying to remember where I ran into you.....glad you made it here, and don't hesitate showing off your stuff either; you do nice work. Thanks for the kind words, and sorry for the minor hijack, Jody.
  6. I'd guess that epoxy, applied with a fairly wide brush, could do the trick.....thin coats are the key IMO. The key filings should sink in pretty well, but still show up when it comes time to paint. Give that a try on a scrap body, and see what happens.
  7. Couldn't have said it better myself, Billy. It's been almost 2 years since it went off, but here's the Make & Take I helped Matt T. do at the Saratoga Auto Museum....the room alone could have made it a great time, but the kids and parents(and grandparents) are what make an event like this special. Make & Take, November '05 Matt & I still laugh about the kid I called 'Hercules.'
  8. Thanks, Jairus. I'm a big fan of weathering models, and it's great to hear new and different methods for making it happen. It's kinda weird how, after decades of striving to make my models 'pretty,' I'm really enjoying making them look awful.
  9. I like it so far; please keep us posted.
  10. I care, but talk is indeed cheap - any pics? Until something better comes along, I'm gonna stick with my Modern Options/Sophisticated Finishes "Instant Rust" kit. It's not expensive**, as easy as paint to apply, and it makes real rust. *Used here on the frame rail & cab corners; the wheel was done with primer: **Michaels stores regularly run 40-50% off coupons in the Sunday papers, so the kit can cost less than a can of Tamiya spray paint.
  11. It would just figure that the GT500 was gonna come out in kit form; I just got past the 'point of no return' modifying the Mustang kit into my neighbors' '07 ragtop GT500. I have yet to use Keith's decals, but I'm getting a few sets for upcoming projects so I'm sure I will soon.
  12. There's a few different methods, floating around, and here's a source for some more to pick through: RUNTROD.COM tech articles And the infamous 'Letherman chop,' performed for the first time on the equally infamous Rat Patrol; this method might be best for a funny car/dragster body, as it narrows the whole lower region of the car.: RAT PATROL BUILD-UP
  13. I just ordered Yenko decals from Keith Marks for one of my AMT Novas.....looks like I'ma hold onto them decals for a little while now. The new GT500 and Black Widow kits are a breath of fresh air as well, and I can only hope they measure up to the '69 Camaro and Merc kits.
  14. He's not yet home from Toledo, but our man Elcamino Billy is having a birthday today. Hope it's a happy one, brother.
  15. O-rings? It's possible that an enterprising and resourceful hot rodder could have scored some aircraft tires back then......
  16. I was just rootin' around Ebay, and there's a recent seller(since July this year) from Pleasant Shade TN......sound familiar? New name, same game most likely. AFX???
  17. I've been wrong the last two times I played, but I'll say real.
  18. Got mine, and IMO it's pretty nice; Jake is right, it will only require minimal work to make it great....my only problem is I can't decide whether to build it as a clean street Baja or a grubby offroader.
  19. I use the Bare Metal polish on occasion, and it works very well. I've had good results removing light scratches in kit glass, and great results polishing old promos.....a Ford Falcon I bought off Ebay sold for nearly double after I polished it, took better pics and relisted it(it was too nice to cut up into a hot rod like I originally planned anyway )
  20. I'm not widely known as a fan of late-model Mustangs, but those LX coupes have long been a favorite of mine.......now where'd I stash my NYS trooper decals?
  21. Jake's a great builder, he makes quality products and has lightning fast shipping.....what more could we ask for?
  22. Stunning, simply stunning. I love the color choice/paint finish, and all the added details push it over the top IMO; I really like the sharp paint work on the wheels too.

    Car lot

By the wardrobe described above, I'm seeing an AMC Matador or Chrysler Cordoba.......how about a Pacer or Gremlin?
  24. I'm not sure what the 'plastic finish' is that cobra's looking to preserve - paint, molded-in color, etc....but I've had great results with a paper towel dampened with nail polish remover to get tampo graphics off diecasts.
  25. I'm not sure how well they'd fit, but those individual headlight trims look an awful lot like the AMT '72 Nova ones; if they'd work, all you'll need for that portion is two spare Nova grilles....and I know I've got one that I wouldn't miss.
