  1. Welcome, Russell ... your 911 wagon real blew me away!
  2. I really like what you've done here. The lines just look right .. like the slant of the rear.
  3. That is a REALLY good front end there .. unique and original.
  4. Very nice! Someday I'll build the Turquoise 500 my Dad had ... hope it comes out as nice as this.
  5. I realize contests are judged, unfortunately, by the Human Being species so take it all with a grain of salt. I don't feel I build to a level that will place in a contest but if I'm going to a non-NNL show I will usually put something in just to participate and show. In my younger days, 14 in 1960, I entered a '36 Ford into a contest at the local hobby shop. To my amazement it placer 2nd in the class ... and no adult/minor separation back then. So I started on a build of a '40 Ford Sedan JUST to compete in next year's contest. I did everything I could to lower it, as was the big thing then in the 1:1 custom world ... radically chopped, channeled and sectioned with tiny 13" wheels. It scaled out to 48" high. The bodywork was extensive using Cushenbery's El Matador as inspiration. The final painting started just days before the contest and was my first attempt with Candy Apple paint. The result was pretty disgusting with dark blobs where it ran and pooled at the lower body edges. There were many new things I tried ... striped corduroy upholstery, full wiring, opened doors with working handles, rotating bucket seats. I was at Boy Scout Camp when it came time to pick it up and see if I had placed anywhere in my second model contest, so my Dad picked it up alone. I was astounded it placed First In the Custom Class ... with that abysmal paint job. I figured all the mods and bodywork over rode the paint. But, I was floored when my Dad said it was up for Best In Show and only lost because they said it was "un-roadable", NOT because the paint sucked! LOW as it'll GO was the thing at the time in 1:1 contests! I would have been much happier if they just said the paint lost it for me .... HUMANS!
  6. Congratulation! That's a very nice camera body ... I have a 5100 and a D80 I used many years before that. The lens you use to take model photos is everything, though. If you got the kit lens, I'm not sure it will be satisfactory, but I don't know much about those. Just give a test to see if you can focus with a model filling the frame at least. I got a Tamron AF 90mm Macro lens for closeups and have been very happy with it. both cost and performance. Edit: I got curious and looked up a review on the kit lens ... seems there is a macro mode that will get plenty close for model needs. Be sure to post some photos!
  7. ... pulls over to the shoulder ... very cool!
  8. Definitely a work truck. Great job on the weathering!
  9. This is a replica of a van my daughter had in the 90's ... an '85 GMC. There's a loong WIP here. These all are fantastic looking vans here!
  10. Can I ask what you built this from? I'm looking to do a Chevy Grumman Step Van and this looks similar, though I suspect it may be all scratch built. It does look fantastic!
  11. I attacked the head lights over the downtime here. The Revell kit again came through with the correct headlight rings. They sit vertical and set into the body rather than flush with the fender. I shaped some tube to fit the fender and glued them inside. They got a bit of putty while they were open and then sealed with a cut out disk.
  12. Looking very nice ... !
  13. I have a tub of it out in the garage that has been there at least a couple years. Many bodies have gone thru it and more will. All I can tell you is keep dipping 'till it stops.
  14. I'm going to go with the resin body. The proportions look good and I'll have this thread on how to get it looking 90's ... Thanks Kevin, and everyone else again for getting this narrowed down. I never thought I could get something so close to start! The engine is so hidden I'm not going to bother. The chassis will probably never be seen so I'll just get the wheels looking right. I see there's plenty of Monogram F350 on ebay to get the duel wheels but it's 1/24 and they might be too large for this. The price on them is good so it's probably worth getting one to see firsthand. The interior is going to be all the fun on this one!
  15. That's some very realistic weathering .. not overdone ... like most Novas seen in the 90's!
  16. That looks very close! Can't see the front grill in their photos but the shape of the front/cab looks close .. that looks like a winner to start this! Thanks, Chris. Any idea who actually makes this? I see where the start for this resin casting came from, anyway .. an Ertl bank!
  17. That's some good info, guys ... I really appreciate it. This will give me a good head start for research. Just what P20/P30 meant was news to me. I'm sure a sports car person ... but ANY vehicle interests me.
  18. My daughter's boyfriend just bought a 1993 Chevy P30 Food Truck to start a business and I'm wondering how much scratch building it's going to take to make a 1/25 version of one. I expect there will be a lot but I'm curious if there's maybe some resin body out there that could give a head start. I am really flying blind as far a trucks are concerned and know nothing of what the chassis of a P30 consists of ... something that would be close in kit form I could use. Any information about the P30 anyone could tell me would be a great help. I'm just starting research today. I only got one shot of the outside of it today ... Thanks for any help or guidance!
  19. It's just a Porsche 944 but felt exotic when I was driving the 1:1
  20. Little by little ... I got the tail lights from the Revell kit mounted with a little putty to square off the bottoms. They aren't a perfect match but will do. I used some .03" triangular strips to replace the rear fender bead. It looks a bit big in it's first primer but a bit more fine sanding will get it closer so it doesn't stand out so much.
  21. A beautiful build of a beautiful car!
  22. OH YEAH ... up on wheels! Those are pretty sleek ... nice!
