Oh yea, I see Martinfan5, those are pretty useless.
-
Well, a trade show booth certainly isn't the easiest place to shoot a car either. There's no way I could get the angles I would've liked.
-
As martinfan5 said, the splitter is still there, it's just under the front fashia. Here are a couple of photos I shot of the RCR 31 car at last week's PRI show. One of the things I like about this car is that the sculpting on the sides of the car is actually done in sheet metal, not merely printed on the wrap like it is on the Nationwide Mustangs.

Early '60s style C/Gasser........A '51 Studebaker
2002p51 replied to traditional's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Nice to see a gas class car actually built to NHRA rules. There are far too many model "gassers" out there that are just loose interpretations of the term. Well done! -
It all depends upon your perspective I guess. I'm 65 and have been into cars since I was 4 or 5 years old. To me anything built after about 1960 is a "late model" car. I couple of years ago I bought '62 Falcon and it had an "antique" license plate on it! Of course, when I transferred the title I got a standard plate for it. I was in a conversation not too long ago with someone who was looking to buy an "old" car. They wanted something from around 1990! I'm going to go sit in my rocker now and listen to my bones crumble.

That's very nice! I have a 1/12 Wolf that's in dire need of rebuilding . . .hmmmmmm. Nice work man! -
Maybe not, but that looks a heck of a lot better than if I had tried to build it!

That's correct, you shouldn't. That's stealing, plain and simple. -

What Skip said, realistically, don't worry about it. -

That's why I said in an earlier post, you have to pick your battles. Some of them you can't win and the infringers know it. -

Technically, yes. -

That's it exactly. You can drive yourself nuts worrying about trying to stop it. You just can't. -

I know all about watermarks. Doesn't stop anything. I see unauthorized use of watermarked photos all over the web all the time. -

This is exactly right. The problem comes in that one almost NEEDS to use social media to promote their work these days. To ignore Facebook and other social media is to be almost invisible to any potential market. So you just have to make up your mind that you're going to lose some control to gain some exposure and not lose any sleep over it. Fotki has a right click protect feature that I use but Facebook is like the wild frontier! One thing that I do is post only low resolution versions of any photos. Yes, they can still be used on Facebook pages and e-mails and such, but they cannot make decent prints or use them in any sort of printed material. Believe it or not, there are still some honest people out there who will contact me about payment for use of my photos on their website. It happens. -

The copyright is good for the lifetime of the creator plus 70 years. -

Google found themselves in court many times over exactly that. In some cases they have had to remove the links, in others the copyright holders realized that the link to their website was beneficial. Just this morning I was reading an article about copyright protection in the world of social media. The last time there was a review and update of copyright laws was in 1998, well before the existence of Google, Facebook, Twitter, et. al. The entire subject of copyright in the face of new technology is constantly changing and evolving. As a professional photographer who relies on the sale and publication of my photos for at least part of my income, copyright is something that I am very concerned about and try to stay up on everything that is going on. But I do have to pick my battles. If a client right clicks a photo from my Facebook page and puts it on his I'm not going to launch an all out legal attack. However, if that same client was to put that photo on a t-shirt and start selling them, he and I would have a serious talk. -

The above is true, but that does not allow someone to take a photo they find on the web and post it on their Facebook page for example. That's not a book review nor does it "benefit . . .the public". Fair Use was created specifically to allow things like movie trailers, book reviews, music reviews, etc., and etc. that provide a beneficial service to both the public and the original author. Those modelers who go out on the web and find "reference" photos for a model they are working on then save them in a Fotki album which they then share on a model board like this one are, technically speaking, violating the copyright of the that photo's owner. Now of course, the likely hood of anybody being prosecuted for something like that is very, very low. But we should know that the law exists and be careful with what we do with the photos we find out there in internet land! -
Personally, I don't like black on a car. So consequently I only use it when I have to, as in these: Okay, that's enough of that!

All books are copyrighted, as are photographs. Scanning and sharing of photos is just as bad. There are some who believe that any photos that are out on the web are "free" for the taking. Not so. Be careful, my friends. -
I built my trailer about a year ago, Johnathan. It's supposed to represent the typical dragster trailer from the sixties so it's a quit a bit lower in height than a Galaxie trailer. I haven't worked on it in a while and there are still a lot of details to add. And yes, I hide stuff in photos too!
-
Okay Johnathan, I yield to my betters. That thing is amazing! Nice job. I'm now crawling away in shame.
-
Okay, to bring this back a little; I made this Watson Indy car frame entirely from Evergreen Styrene rod and .010" sheet. To me it is built from scratch. Now here is a trailer I made for a top fuel dragster (Notice I didn't type FED, that's a whole 'nother rant! ) This too is made entirely from Evergreen Sheet and shapes like angle, etc. Except, of course, for the wheels and tires and those posters which were scanned from various sources. So, it's not really 100% scratchbuilt, or is it?

Must every post on every thread be meaningful and profound? We're just a bunch of model geeks sittin' around talking about stuff and having a little fun.
