It seems that there are quite a few members of this forum that offer parts for sale and everyone but me knows who they are and how to find them on the web or ebay etc. There are a lot of talented people on this forum and I love to support vendors when they have parts I need instead of trying to starting from scratch. I have done that and it is rewarding but also very time consuming. Especially during the summer months, I have limited time at the workbench. So if someone else has already done the work I am more than happy to support their hard work. I have found a few and have done some business with them but I know there are some more out there. Is there a list somewhere? what am I missing here? Steve

Either Perrys resin or P&P offer the tall GMC Topkick/Chevrolet Kodiak cab. I have the plaskit hood conversion and it is a great looking piece and includes very good instructions for the cdonversion. Apparently the Chev Kodiak/GMC TopkickIt came in two cab heights. The Plaskit conversion is for the shorter one and uses the silverado cab as the basis. It appears that the shorter version would have been a 1 ton size truck with the taller version for the bigger trucks

steve7119 replied to 426hemiman's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Cedarville is 20 miles west of rockford to Freeport on US 20 then 7 miles north on Rt 26. About 100 miles NW of Chicago. Population of under 1000 includeing the squirrels. Not very big, but they do have a nice little community center and this show/swap is about the only one in the area. -
Cedarville Show March 11

I will be going, it's only about 5 miles from my house. -
I have never cut myself that badly. I guess I have been lucky. A couple weeks ago I was working at the bench in shorts and watched the sharp thing roll off the edge toward my lap. remembering the wisdom of those sages on this forum, i did not immediatly try to catch the sharp knife with my privates, but instead spread my legs so the knife could hit the floor......blade stuck in back of my left calf on the way down. Didn't even try to explain that to my wife. just cleaned it up and moved on...

I think super glue by itself would just sit there. Not sure about the science, but it seems to need something to bond to before it does anything.......the powder sets it up immediatley. baby powder or baking powder is something that just about all of us has in the house.

Same thing different powder. I use Baking Powder instead of baby powder. Same result. sets up almost instantly and can be sanded in a few minutes.

Venting a paint booth
steve7119 replied to shucky's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I echo the others about not using a Y in to the dryer venting. Another consideration is do not use the plastic flexible dryer vent tubing. the solvents from the paint will attack it and over time it will destroy it. Spend the extra few bucks for the solid metal or flexible metal. Depending on how far you have to go. I used all metal on mine but I have a run to the outside wall that is over 12ft. It is availbale in 3ft and 6ft sections at most home centers. You can cut it with a tin snips and the tool to create the crimp to join the cut pieces is only a few bucks. This way costs a bit more to get started, but you won't ever have to replace it. -
Do the same thing the 1:1 guys do. Pick your axle and make it to fit. Calnaga Castings has a dana 44 casting with the outer axle ends. Cast center section uses brass tube with the cast ends. I got a set and they are really good. You can use any axle that is correct for the time period. I am working on a 55 stepside conversion and the dana 44 has been around since then.

'48 Jeep Pick up

Looks like I lost some photos in this thread. Had some issues with Photobucket today. Got the transmission done today! I wanted a more up to date transmission to go with the LS engine that is the powerplant for this project so I am trying to replicate an NV 4500 5 speed manual. Here are some photos of the original followed by what I managed to come up with. My version Thanks for looking, comments welcome! Let me know how I did. Made a little progress with the chassis too, but nothing photo worthy right now. Steve -
Since I am the police, I will echo the suggestions of the others. Talk to your local PD. Without the details, I can't be speific, but If the kits were stolen because someone thought they could make a buck and have been or are trying to sell them, the police have some options. Most states have some kind of law requiring pawn shops and second hand shops that would buy/sell to keep records of what they purchased and ID from where they bought it. Illinois created a new law last year making it specifically illegal to use the internet to sell stolen goods. Police have options to try to locate the kits and ID the sellers. With the value of 150 kits, it would likely be a felony theft charge at the least. Different states call it different things but I would think that a burglary or residential burglary would fit too. They will do everything they can. If the kits got disposed of as trash, there are still few options. Less likely to be able to recover the property, but still possible to ID a suspect. either way If they can gather enough evidence to get someone into court on charges, resitution could be part of sentencing.

I too would be happy to help out. Just give me an idea of what you want and I will send it!

New Dump Truck Project
steve7119 replied to steve7119's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Thanks for the interest and comments! I wasn't able to get all the parts stripped last weekend, but got a good start. Parts ordered from AITM that should be here by the weekend. Hopefully some forward progress and photos this weekend. -
American Industrial Truck Models

Yep, send an order by email on Saturday night and got a response about shipping on Sunday. I expect to have the parts by the end of the week. -
Welcome to the Forum! I have build several spray booths with different plans. The expensive part is the fan. with the solvents in paints you will want to get a fan that is designed for the use. they may be called an explosion proof fan, can't remember the name for sure. The fan and motor are separated so the air the fan is moving doesn't go through the motor. The blower motors I got for the ones I built came from Grainger. They were Dayton I think. When I made the second one, I gave the blower motor from the old one to my brother so he could build one. Price depends on the CFM you need. Brians Model Cars site had a tutorial that I used the last time. If I remember correctly it had a formula that helped figure out the size of the fan needed for the size of the booth you wanted to build. Good luck and welcome back to the hobby!

New Dump Truck Project
steve7119 replied to steve7119's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Thanks for the comments. I have a couple of the short hauler kits too. Don't want to sacrifice them for just the rear suspension. Got a couple more projects in mind for the dump trucks. This one will be an older model and I have a few ideas for a kodiak and IH with the newer paint schemes. I think I can get the rear suspension from aftermarket. I believe AITM has the suspension, plow and dump box for the later projets. I plan to modfy this dump box to match the 1:1 -
Ford Dump Truck Instructions
steve7119 replied to steve7119's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
You're the best Anthony, Thanks!! -
Based on the quality of the work, I must have built this truck when I was much younger. Pinted with a brush, no seams or mold lines sanded...well you get the picture. Rediscovered it recently and want to use it as a basis for a single axle dump truck. The other projects are stalled while I create and or wait for parts so I am getting started on this. Here is where I want to end up, although a much older version with a green paint finish that they used when they actually used this model year. Mostly dissassembled and in the stripper or freezer.
-
Does anyone have a set of the instructions for this truck? I think most of it would be similar to the Ford race car hauler of the same era with the only differences being with the dump box. I have it mostly disassembled an in the stripping process. I have the race car hauler instructions, but If i could find the dump box instructions, it would be helpful. Tried the online instructions website and all they have is the race car hauler and the Louisville single axle short hauler. Any assistance wuld be appreciated! Steve

Best place for reference material I can think of is a Clymer or Haynes repair manual for the bike. About $20 at Farm and Fleet or AutoZone, O'Reilly. Also available on line from Amazon or Barnes and Noble I would bet. The book will include complete wiring diagrams for the bike and photos of the real thing.
