Thanks for the compliments guys! I'm really pleased with the way this one turned out, I think it's my best work yet. The wheel finish is actually "Detail Gray", from Eastwood, sprayed over Tamiya gray primer. They meant for it to replicate bare steel, but I think it makes a better magnesium finish...

Beauty!

That engine! Love it. I also like the combination of glossy paint and primer.

Here's a couple more with brighter lighting.

This is the new Revell kit, modified to look like an early/mid '60's altered. Here's what I did: - Tamiya Light Pearl Blue paint. -Decals are from various reissued AMT kits. -Suspension components painted with Alclad chrome. -Wheels/tires from Revell's Orange Crate. -Rear axle from SW&C Willys, ladder bars from AMT's Rat Packer Nova. -Interior has flocking, bucket seat and steering wheel from the SW&C Willys. Detail Master seat belts and photo etch buckles. Scratchbuilt, too tall, flimsy looking period correct roll bar. -Rear push bar made from Evergreen. -Kit engine has plug wires and fuel lines. I used a front cover and fuel pump from an AMT '37 Chevy. -Moon tank and '32 Grille are from revel's '32 5 window kit. I chopped the grille and cut out the center. Thanks for looking!

Looks like a great starting point for a cool model!

Love that custom pickup! Awesome build!

I'm planning on doing the truck mostly stock, but with a little surprise under the hood: 390 with 3 2's form the '60 Starliner. I'm also planning on taking the wheels and tires from the '60 kit.

It's been one of my grails since I first heard about it almost 10 years ago. It's hard to say what happened to the tooling. AMT didn't make a pickup annual kit in '64, so we know the '63 tooling didn't get wrecked to make the next years model. Maybe it still exists!

I finally pieced together a decent, buildable AMT '63 Ford Pickup and Bonneville go kart. The truck is actually a combination of a trashy '62 and a nice '63 body. No progress yet, but hopefully I can get at it soon!

The engine detail on this is KILLER! I can't wait for more! -
Awesome build Steve! WIll it be at CAMS this weekend?

Thanks for the compliments! I actually took the red suspension idea from the Snooky Janich '41 Ford, which was being restored at the time I built this. It was built by Barris in the late '40's and the suspension was all painted red. I used this same idea on my black '40 coupe. The mufflers are meant to resemble the old blue Smithy glasspacks, just as Dennis Lacy pointed out

To be honest, I only sanded the drip rails off so I wouldn't burn through the paint in those areas during polishing. LOL! I agree that it would look good with them back on.

Thanks for the comments!

I'm glad everyone's diggin' it! Thanks for helping me get motivated to finish this! It's almost ready for priming and painting. Color will be Tamiya TS-58 Light Blue Pearl.

Does anyone make these wheels in resin?
-
Currently I only have two finished models with red suspension and blue mufflers, but you might see more in the future. Hahahahaha!

1960 Chevy and Ford annual kits. I bought these on Ebay recently. -
Nice! It's not easy to get the top aligned right on these kits, but it looks you did it perfectly!

Is started this one in 2010, but quickly lost interest and put it back in the box. A year or so later I brought it back to the bench and painted everything and started putting it together. It was 90% finished when I decided it didn't look right, so it went back in the box! I started the 5 window variation of this kit shortly after and had it mostly finished when I messed up the paint during the polishing stage. The chassis was good, so I went back to the stalled sedan project and grabbed the body and interior and mashed the two projects together and ended up with what you see here now. The paint is Testors lacquer. The headers are from the SW&C Willys and the slicks are from the Tony Nancy double kit. It represents a street/strip hot rod circa 1965. The model was recently used as the cover art for my band's album. I hope this doesn't break any forum rules, I'm not trying to advertise/sell my stuff here, just thought it would be a cool thing to share.
