  1. This is not true. The problem is the seller does not know how to use the listing program. I have it and have used it many times. You are able to choose a flat rate or let ebay figure the cost for you, but when you use this...the weight needs to be entered as well. When done correctly, it works fairly well and accurate. Power sellers get a discount on UPS shipping, so the seller already makes an extra few cents without inflating the price at all.
  2. My 2 cents, as a buyer and seller in the past. 1) One kit will ship anywhere in the US for $5.50 or less. $6.00 is the number they should charge. 2) Sellers who want to cover their cost for boxes, packaging, etc. are not true "sellers". Try not to buy from amature shippers. 3) A new tactic I have seen. Seller puts "Free Shipping" on the listing, then adds shipping fees in the description. This does not allow you to rate them at auction end. The shipping cost rating will not show. 4) Many amature shippers simply use too big of a box...thus you pay shipping for a pound or 2 of cardboard. (Again, amatures). 5) You can determine actual shipping cost yourself fairly accurately: Each kit weighs about 1 pound, with the right size box this formula works well, and with many kits, the weight is actually less. (Example: we sent 14 kits overseas yesterday, weight was 12 lbs.) 6) Parcel post rarely is less than UPS...and the shipper can do both through Paypal. UPS is WAY faster (and insured for free up to $100). 7) LOL...when I see a seller with outrageous shipping fees, I drop them an email calling them out on it. I have been blocked from bidding by a few. As you know...we ship for $6 anywhere in the lower 48. That is our way of giving a discount for multiple item purchases. We get killed on some shipping to West coast...but in the end, it only costs me a few bucks at the end o the month.
  3. I had some pics and emails from folks here that were lost in a very unfortunate computer mishap (as in it crashed). We thought we had the puter fixed, but.... I was planning to start a MOM on our modelers page, and was all set to use a certain custom found here. I am old enough that I forget stuff...and well, I forget who's car that was. Hopefully you know who you are :-0, please contact me. Also...I had a few new modelers to add, but again...lost. If you would allow us to use your model pics at jimnohio, please leave me a message here or go to our "modelers" page and email from there. I would like to extend thanks to all who have allowed their pics/models to this point. The pic atop our pages really adds some pizzazz and hopefully some inspiration to fellow builders. Thanks.
  4. I have never dealt with them, and was hoping to gain some insight on the operations there at Reliable Resin. Quality, delivery, etc. Any info would be helpful. Thanks in advance.
  5. Holy cow! That thing is amazing! The color is awesome, the shape is beautiful, and worst of all....I want to drive it around! Very cool idea brought to life. PS: may we use that pic at jimnohio???
  6. This guy needs some pics of the model from Tamiya...can anyone help out??? :-)
  7. As a dealer...I can attest the fact that May is a slow month. It was when I was selling diecast as well. The overall prices seem to have stayed the same though. Sure there are few oddities in both directions. LOL..most ebay guys losing their shirts try to make up for it with rediculous shipping prices. I send emails calling them on it when I see 'em! Guy here in Ohio was going to charge me $20.00 shipping for 4 cars, actual cost was under $7.00. I told him we better cancel the auction as there is no way I could give more than a "1" rating for shipping cost. He canceled immediately. LOL. Those "I sold it" stores are notorious for rip off shipping prices, screwing the buyer as well as the seller. When selling through "I sold it", they keep a percent of the sell price...and all the shipping! Back on topic...I could have a whole topic posted about shipping price scammers. Its summer! Collectors are taking their break from their hobby (for the most part). Prices and the number of models offered will again go up as summer ends. Been that way for years. Sellers also don't want to spend all their time "listing"...there are steaks to grill, baseball games to see, and yards to mow. IMO, obviously.
  8. WOW! That is one of the coolest trucks EVER! Like everyone has already said, paint, color scheme, and the concept...ALL 1st rate. Thanks for sharing the pics!
  9. I have most of the chassis figured out. Man, scratch build/parts box building is time consuming. LOL...just finding the parts or pieces to use takes me forever. (NOTE to self: get an organizer for all these parts). As you can see the frame and cockpit have been roughly constructed. I need to add several parts (steering, shocks, etc.) but the main idea seems to be working. I have a lot of filing and filler to go...but I am reasonably happy with the construction. By the way...lets call this thread "The Rookie's Blog: Watch the ol' guy learn as he goes." The nascar front clip went together OK, but I may try again. I put the spindles on backwards (they looked the same at first glance) so I had to alter the rotors to have the brake cylinders up rather than down . Secondly, I didn't see to put the little wheel adaptor on as I was putting the spindles on, they were suppose to stick out through the rotor...but instead they are still on the tree. DOH! Now I have to come up with a way to attach my tires/wheels. Just one of those OOPS moments. I do like the way the car sits. I have been playing with the body/filler/paint. I had already begun the proccess when I ran across 2 great tutorials on paint. (Next time). I had to deal with what I started. The filler I used (NMD White Putty) was not very good. I could see the lines I was filling over and over and over. Sand fill sand fill sand fill...yikes! I finally got it, but I read about some other methods to fill and why some paints effect the filler as well. Again, next time! Mainly I was filling the hood lines and door lines as I wanted to 1 pc. body look of fiberglass cars. This car was painted with Gloss Black paint for plastic. No primer needed (says the can). It actually worked OK. I could sand and see the bad spots, fill and simply repaint. Once I got it to my liking, I sprayed it again with Tamiya Gray Pearl. The end result is a gloss black with a little metal flake finish. I like it fine. Well that's it for now. I'll share more head aches as I go. LOL. By the way, the engine I am using is for fit only. I may actually use this engine, but I do plan to fully detail an engine later in the build (using the tutorials I find here).
  10. 1st draft..yes. I had a pick up truck frame donated at the North Coast meeting, used the front clip from a Nascar, and some of the rear end pieces as well. The truck frame had to be narrowed by near half. I am still learning how to fill those lines where I cut and reattached frame parts. The frame was almost perfect in length. (The Edsel is very long!) My intention is to build what I'd describe as low budget early daya funny car. LOL...in reality, I just don't have the heart to piece out any of the few actual drag cars we have in stock. I am using 3 junkyard kits and some pieces from parts boxes. The Edsel, a 57 Chevy, and a 90's Nascar. "No complete kit has been harmed in the making of this 'funny' car." The front end is very cool on the Edsel. Notice I added a spoiler to the front and some ground effects side panels. (Extended rocker panels). I'll have pics soon...
  11. I have a lot of work to do, but at least I have figured out the chassis and front/rear suspension. This is being built from 3 kits and a parts box. LOL...not at the standards of most of the guys here, but I thought you'd like to see an idea for cool old car. Chrome will have some brass highlights. Chevy engine. Truck frame as starter...this will be an "early days" funny car. ...more pics as the chassis progresses. Nascar front end, pieces parts rear end, scratch built cockpit. By far my most ambitious build ever!
  12. hey...I plan to be there this week. LOL...no builds with me though. :-(. I like Oldsmobiles...so I can't wait to see what's there! Edited to add: Oh yeah, I REALLY love that color on this car...it is very classy look! Super nice "quick" build! I only wish I could.....
  13. Great unusual color! I love it. Engine looks superb as well. Nice car for first post! Can't wait to see more...

  16. Tony, LOL...you'd think I know but I don't: Is the '11 TA a kit or is that a full out custom?
  17. I'll be showing more of everyone's. I plan to change the pics every 2 weeks or so...randomly changing all the time. The model pics all link to jimnohio builders page, which in turn have your names and another model pic, as well as a link to your site/photo album. All are invited...just email me a link to your builds (photo album or website). Guest model builders at Jimnohio (links page)
  18. Fixed it...and thanks for allowing me to use it. Love that car as well as to '11 TA that someone else did (paints page I beleive). Jim
  19. Flattered? LOL...I am the one who is flattered, I am very grateful to be able to show you guys awesome finished kits on my site. The photos/builds you offered added some "class" to jimnohio.com.

  21. The new store site is up and running, and many of you guys pics are classing up the joint! I had a tough time choosing, and have filed away several more pics for future use. WOW...you guys are good! I used first names only, and put where you're from under the pics...all build pics link to a new page (model builders links and pics). If you see any mistakes, let me know. If you get a chance, please "click around" and email me if you find any bad links, etc. The pics I chose are more random than anything. LOL...I could have used all pics from any one of you guys that shared your picture albums. I tried to vary builders and models. I'll be changing the pics frequently, so if someone is missing, yours will be showing soon enough. Now...if your reading this, you may take advantage of a "Buy TWO get ONE FREE" deal offered right here only...through Thursday! Stop in and look around...and at checkout enter "forum2010" in the discount code box. If you buy 3 models, the cheapest one is FREE. (paint not included). Thanks guys...
  22. Thanks James........ see your pic here! (and many more from this forum)
  23. I have a couple of pics that need info... 1st: Walt Francis; where do you reside? I am adding state/country after your names. 2nd; I saved a merc and a Z28 pic that just have "whtchvy" as the name (oops). Does anyone claim to know or be "whtchvy", either here or as their phot album name??? Thanks!
  24. Wowzer...that's GREEN! Very cool build there. I love the color!
  25. Well finally...tomorrow the new pages go online. We will still be at jimnohio.com, but in order for search engines to find us better, our name url will be www.jimnohiosmodelkits.com. The old jimnohio links will still work, but will simply redirect you to the new site. No more frames! You will now be able to link to individual pages. I love the "frames' format, but search engines don't recognize frames, and it is hard to link to as well...soooooo! OK...I am using pics from you guys! It was very hard...LOL, every site I was at had many cars I want to use. If your pics are not any pages, be patient...they will be soon. I will be changing those pics often, and would hope to get everyone's models on site at some point. New to our site...."Modelers Links". All the "model pics" will link to our new links page, which will in turn have you guys sites linked. Your name and where you are from will be under each pic. (I need some "where from's" from a few guys). Also...we now have an assortment of paint. (mainly bottles). I am testing the waters to see if we want to offer paint and other modelers tools (glue, foil, etc.). Lastly...our Anniversary sale is coming....stay tuned. Thanks to all...your skills are amazing! Tom Kren, Tom Miller, Walt Francis, Tony Turnball, Randy from NC, Tom from Elyria, and others.
