  1. There is a virus or piece of spam making the rounds on Facebook that gets into your list of Friends and steals your identity and theirs to send out spam under your name, and eventually under their names. If you see this posting on your wall, DON'T OPEN IT, AND CAUTION YOUR FRIENDS NOT TO OPEN IT.
  2. Asking if cats are evil is like asking if the sky might occasionally be blue.
  3. It was about five minutes before I started this thread, which would make it around 11:40 am.
  4. A few minutes ago while I was going through the forum, any topic you clicked on would bring up the screen below. You don't often see typos in such screens (occurred is misspelled), which makes me wonder if it was another hack attack.
  5. Or maybe you should do four different versions of Rommel's Rod.
  6. I think a Yugo should stand for pestilence.
  7. So, I'm guessing you want to build a group of four cars representing these. What cars do you have in mind for each of them? This would make an interesting poll.
  8. Almost all 1:1 car shows are about the quality of the car. Even a beautifully maintained factory car, a survivor in its original condition, is worthy of admiration and awards (and big bucks at Barrett-Jackson, regardless of what you think about them). It doesn't have to be an example of the restorer's art. Models, which come in pieces, have to be built by someone with certain skill levels and there are totally different judging criteria and categories, which center around the quality of the build. I see no similarity between 1:1 car shows and model contests, except that the desirability of the car may play a factor. But a great post-apocalyptic or junkyard build could win a model contest. You'll never see that in a 1:1 car show.
  9. Well, Grannie kind of goes along with the old movie title, "Mother, Jugs and Speed." We know which part Raquel Welch played.
  10. Them's my sentiments exactly. There are lots of different types of car shows. At most car shows, I think recognition should go to the car and the builder or restorer, regardless of ownership. Rod & custom shows display creativity and unique artistic skill, so a guy like Chip Foose should be recognized even if he built it for someone else. At Pebble Beach, you're not likely to find many owners who did much personal work on those cars, so (as in the Leno example), the skill of the restorer should be recognized. But owners of these types of cars often act as producers, farming out work to a wide variety of sources to achieve their particular vision. But I don't think model car shows/contests are anything like that. They're really arts & crafts shows, displaying the talents of the entrants. Who would enter a Gerald Wingrove or Juha Airio model under their own name? If model show rules don't stipulate that the model must be the work of the entrant, they should. Isn't that partly taken care of by the different categories such as box stock and others with heavy use of aftermarket parts?
  11. That was a common mirror position in the 50s and 60s for a number of sports cars, and it always seemed to me that the Asians were influenced by British cars back in those days for one reason or another, maybe because they could be imported with right-hand drive. That's just a guess.
  12. Interesting to note that the Porsche 959 was initially built for a Paris-Dakar run. Pity the poor civilians who bought the street versions (as one magazine put it, you need a full-time staff or aerospace mechanics to get it running after every trip to the supermarket).
  13. Yeah, fantasyjunction.com is one of the best sites on the Web for photo reference, and they have a lot of turnover in their inventory. I've gathered tons of images from them over the years.
  14. I have interrupted my standing ovation to type this message of appreciation.
  15. You don't see this at the bottom of my posts?
  16. Talk about something backfiring. As I saw the earlier thread, it was mostly commenting on a technical spam issue over there and not a bash at all (though I have no idea why it was brought up in this forum). But this one has really gone whole hog on the bash part. It's become even more negative than the recently locked thread criticizing SA; personally, I don't see the need for any of this. I refer you to the art in my signature line.
  17. A piece of authentic Americana, nailed by an Austrian. Beautiful, intelligent work.
  18. 'Okay, all kinds of people swear by the following. Anyone have anything new? Why isn't this all we need in a pinned subject? This should probably be the subject for a poll, but here's what members stand by for chrome stripping (in alphabetical order): Regular Bleach Brake fluid - Castrol Super Clean (CSC_ etc) Coca-Cola Dawn Power Dissolver Drano Easy Off oven cleaner - original yellow can Liquid Plumbr Oven-Off oven cleaner Purple Power Simple Green Westley's Bleche-Wite Window cleaner with Ammonia Zep purple degreaser
  19. I truly don't mean to be negative, but this is one of the most often-repeated subjects on all scale car building forums. Is there a way we can pin a tutorial or something on this subject? It's really very tiresome. People can be directed to those threads, rather than dealing with a new thread on the same thing over and over again for the 200th time. Pinned subjects can always be added to; but I feel like I'm wasting my time when I look for new answers and keep seeing the same old thing. I would also hope for recommendations for pinned subjects in the Tutorials section for many other subjects that keep reappearing, such as: How to use BMF How do you make hinges? Best primers and paints? How to strip paint? And you know the rest. One of the problems is that this site has a totally useless search function, and it makes no sense to direct newbies to it. scaleautomag.com has an excellent search function, and I would direct people there.

I believe you posted the 55 Victoria a while back, but not the police car. Beautiful work, still worth admiring.
  21. John – are you going to add a bubble top? I say this because of the chrome trim that goes across the door openings.
  22. Just outstanding craftsmanship and originality. You have so many perfectly executed curves in body panels and window openings that I'm amazed. Excellent interior textures.
  23. The carpeting looks just right. Felt? Whatever, where is it available?
