  1. Well, I jumped way ahead and painted the body. I don't think I should have ,but it's done.LOL! I had to do something to help motivate me. It's black with a bluish purple splash pattern. When the build is done I will take non flash pictures because the blue is not so bright until the flash hits it. Hope you like it? Doug
  2. That's awesome!!! James you and Jairus truly amaze me with your builds. I hope to see this one in person. Doug R

Beautiful!! Wow,I wish I could build a clean stocker like that.. Doug R MORE,More,more..
  4. First off--LOOKS great Mark!! Coming along good. Doug R A "pre-runner" is a term used to describe a type of vehicle used to pre-run an off road race course, such as the baja 500. etc... Some pre runners can range from the mildy modified pick up truck to a full tube chassis buggy or truck with 30 plus inches of travel. A pre runner has no specific descrition really. Marks truck could also be a Class 8 desert racer. If truly interested, just google "Pre Runner" and you will be busy for weeks. I hope this helps as a definition for you. Doug R
  5. Thanks for the nice comments guys. Today, I built the front beam and tied it in to the main cage. I still need add alot to it. I also made a front bumper and mounted it. In the rear,I re-did the rear most hoop and cut out the fender well area for shocks to go through. The next step is to make front arms and shock mounts, then it's to the back of the chassis. Doug R
  6. Very cool graphics. I love it. Doug R
  7. Beautiful color on the chisler product. Can't wait to see the type 2 done. Doug
  8. The rear wheels are revell centerlines that I drilled to represent vw pattern. My trade mark BFG tires are the ones I use on all my baja cars. They come from a die cast kit and already have a wide 5 pattern. They are really hard to find. They will be available in cast resin pretty soon though. Thanks for the replies guys. Doug R
  9. That's why I can never find VW kits Dave, because you own them all.LOL! I started the cage work and have the interior cage about 60% done. I will have a dry break fuel filler just behind the pass door, you can't see the top of the fuel cell because it's white right now and blends in. I will post more later this week when I have the beam built and tied in. Doug
  10. Mark,I just did and fit the basic 6 point cage today. I am gonna do a lot of bracing and adding of bars and make a front beam and tie in by the end of the week. I will post progres pics later this week. It would have been easier to scratch build a whole chassis than work around the stock pan and interior.LOL! But I do think the end result should be cool. I may do graphics on this one too. Thanks for the debate and interest in the subject guys. Doug
  11. [ Like the Type 3 notchback, the Type 3 Ghia was never exported to the US by VW; any of those cars you see here today were 'gray market' vehicles.
  12. LOL!! You guys crack me up. No that is a metal car. Ghia's like bugs have a pan.I have seen my friends 63 ghia without the body on it. Here is a picture of one without the pan bolted up. http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/album_pag...p?pic_id=312655 I have pictures of a few more baja ghias too. Check out "The Samba" for great vw info and pics A ghia is also known as a type 3. Doug R
  13. Absolutely! I hope to see more people doing them. I mastered a baja body that I hope will be cast soon for people so they can build a more mdern style baja bug from a revell kit. I better get something done on this ghia soon. Thanks for the input guys. Doug R
  14. Mike, you amaze me with all these projects and builds. And some of the stuff you have I have never seen as a build. Very good.(again) Doug R
  15. I will throw some more pics when I get something done.LOL! I hope to have some cage work done by this weekend. Not sure if I will build off pan or go full tube chassis. Thanks. Doug R
  16. Great quality and fast turnaround with Jake guys. Feel very safe with this guy. Doug R
  17. Quality, quality stuff guys. I use Jake alot. Fast turn around too. I always get my parts in under 2 weeks from the second I order. Doug R
  18. This is all I have Bobby. Need to get the body right first, then build a sweet chassis and suspension. Maybe charcoal gray with flo green cage and flo green and black checker graphics? I will know when I open the can.LOL! Stay tuned. Doug
  19. Hey guys, I just started hacking at this ghia body today. I think I will try to retain some of the rear bodywork? Maybe not. I made a couple centerline wheels and may make and use those instead of my trade mark BFG's.LOL! Here is a really rough mock up. What do you think of the body look? Keep in mind it will have alot of cage and bumper work. Thanks. Doug
  20. You are doing some great work Andy. I love the Modelmartin and Vintage monogram logo. Doug R
  21. James I believe: 5 toes = 1foot LOL! What a score: The biggest tip I have gotten working in a car dealership is to find work with benefits.LOL. Great score my friend. Doug R
  22. Unlike the "Brand -X" mag forum,I think these guys are cool with it. Model Cars is more of community and builder forum to me. I personally like to see guys post their products so we know what is out there to build with. I personally would email the admins and ask first just out of respect. Doug R
  23. Hey guys, If you ever get to deal with Kyle "LOBBS" Laubscher. Feel easy about it,he is on the ball. I bought a set of wheels and tires from him over the holidays and he got them to me faster than expected. Thanks Kyle.
  24. I would say yes. I have an SMC earlier single garage. It's poster board and has kind of warped over time. It was only $15 when I bought it though. I always get comments on it when I post pictures and it is really basic. I would be down for a nice one if it were under $75?? Doug R
  25. Looks great Bobby! I wish I could BMF. You really need to BMF the trim on those kinds of cars,I think that's what keeps me from building them.LOL! Doug R
