  1. Added plug wire wires, changed the fuel lines, brake lines installed..... Still need to wire alternator, starter and add coil, fuel filter, return spring for carbs, drain plug, tie rod, idler arm, thermostat & radiator hoses.........it just never ends, like the man said "the devil is in the detail".
  2. Barry, there's been a lot of chatter at TDR about 1/12th scale. We're pretty jammed up at the moment with 1/8th projects but are seriously considering adding some 1/12th goodies.
  3. I'm with you Dave, I'd enjoy more info about this split window. Neat looking chopped bug body in the background of the photos too.
  4. Yeah, I'm havin' fun with it Jim. I had one of my grand-babies with me this a.m so I had an excuse to wander the doll house section at Hobby lobby. Found some tiny brass door hinges and hardware for the body. Couldn't believe the prices on that brass doll house stuff......good grief.
  5. I did a quick full size (1/12th) sketch of the body to make sure everything would fit before I start hacking up the wood for the coach body. I'll take care of the patterns, lanterns and gingerbread as I go.
  6. I'll be fabbing up a stage coach body out of balsa & basa wood for this chassis. Should be interesting.
  7. Hobby time hasn't been my buddy lately but I managed to get a little more done on this car. Yes, I know the alternator is tipped but it hasn't been permanently mounted yet. The front suspension works and I'll be assembling the rear now. Still gotta run brake lines & finish plumbing the engine....but I'm getting there. I can't do the working steering until I have the body mocked up.
  8. I work with large scale models and those little overpriced hobby shop rattle cans just don't cut it. I use Krylon for most everything including the "for plastic" stuff. Never had a problem with or without primer. However, I always use a good primer with automotive "hot" paints to prevent plastic melt down.
  9. This is getting down right funny.......'bout the only TDR guy you haven't seen at one time or another is Tony. He's one of the partners involved with TDR but doesn't say much publicly. When he does, it's usually in the form of of things like the heater (engine) for the Roadster. Just for those that are concerned about even posting their real names on MCM's forum....here's a current pic of my mug. I earned the nose flat trackin' Harley's on a dirt track.
  10. It's the Lindy 1/12th Fiat Dragster kit...the chassis has been around for ages, it started out as that motorized futuristic thing they did many years ago and the tooling has been carried over in various kits since then. Still has some extra gears and brackets etc. on the trees from the old days...and yes, about 3/4 of the kit was chome plated (barf). I bought the kit for 24 bucks during the ModelExpo sale. I won't be using the kit body....hence the name Termite Candy. Going to be doing some kit bashing & scratch building for the coach work. The theme is the wild and zany show cars from the late 60-70's.
  11. I have to meet a customer for lunch, if that winds up early enough, I'll be there. If not I'll try for the next one.
  12. That's 'bout an hour drive for me...I'll do my best to be there. The old woman needs the car so I'll be driving a '96 F-150 with a busted grille (hit a deer). I should be easy to spot, beard, long hair, shades and a hat. One of the joys of living in the sticks.
  13. Big block Mopar, funtional front and rear independant suspension, working steering....1/12th scale.
  14. And don't forget the old coffee cans for air filters.
  15. Looks to me like you guys are bound determined to make this thing work. That being said, if large scale (also) is cool with everyone I'm in. I don't do much of anything under 1/12th. I've met Jim and he's a great guy, I can't guarantee that I can make all the meetings and I'm not real fond of face-book. I'm the assistant administrator at Scale Motorcars and one of the partners in TDR innovations. I'm also a sales rep. and artist with American Classic Motor Cars (1:1) in Ocala. I'll do my best to support your endeavor and help whenever I can if you want me as a member. I'm supposed to be retired but I can't seem to make that work...it's far too boring.
  16. I guess I'm just an old and ignorant fart....but I can't figure out what the point of this thread is. Is it intended simply to bash manufacturers or just babble about ugly cars....what? I for one am grateful that these mentioned companies etc. have at least provided us the fodder to work with. Beats the heck out of the stuff that was available when I was buying models for 98 cents that had half a dozed parts. Sure...some are better than others....but without them your only option would be a pocket knife and a block of wood.
  17. Yeah Steve....my plate has been pretty full lately, but the Cuda is getting closer by the day. The last big hurdle (at least for me) after getting the master to a point where I was happy with it,was to construct a fiberglass bolt together multi piece finished mold that would have plenty of longevity to it.....many thanks go to the Madd Fabricator for keeping me out of trouble with that one. As you know the mold has to be as close to perfect as I can get it. Close enough just doesn't fly if it's to wear the TDR name. I probably have a few more weeks tweaking the mold and if all goes well I'll lay-up a prototype for pics that will be used as a shop mule to allow the construction of other goodies for the car. I'll start laying up the bodies for you original investors immediately after I get an acceptable prototype. So hang in there.....it hasn't been side lined. Something you might want to keep in mind is that you investors will get the only bodies available from that first run. I won't be putting them up for sale until I have some inventory on hand.
  18. (Grandpa McGurk) Don Garrett, Ocala FL. (actually Ocklawaha, Ocala National Forest)
  19. Tim and the Madd Fabricator from TDR will be at the show, they'll have the prototype for the new 1/8th scale TDR Roadster and a bunch of other goodies....be sure to swing by their tables and chat for a few, great guys.
  20. I used to use evil bay a lot as a buyer & seller....but when you look at all the responses above...add to that eBay's fees..... it ain't pretty. A lot of sellers justify the high postage as actual postage but that magic handling fee can be whatever they want. I recently bought a kit I had wanted from Japan....it was worth probably $30. I won the bid at $1.25 but the shipping was close to thirty bucks and it took nearly 3 weeks to arrive. Being I couldn't find the kit anywhere else I was happy with sale but certainly got no bargain. All I can say is let the buyer beware, know what you are buying and make sure that the shipping is what it's supposed to be.
  21. Jim, can't say for sure as I'm retired (sorta), but I'm wondering if weekdays for club meetings might eliminate some of the guys that have full time jobs or school? Just something to consider. It probably wouldn't matter if you are just trying to put a core together right now.
  22. I can see a plan formulating here......I have far too many irons in the fire at the moment to grab this bull by the horns and wrestle it to the ground. Let me suggest that you guys decide on a name or moniker and set up a group of enthusiastic modelers....you know, delegate positions and all that so that there is a foundation to work from. Once you have your officers in place, then some advertising can be done to let folks know that it exists. After all....whose going to join a club or promote a model car show without knowing who or why....get my drift?
  23. I have trouble enough tig welding big stuff.....much less 1/8th. Maybe my eyeball needs recalibrating. I'd like to toss some more kudos your way but am at a loss as to what I'd say.
  24. Guys, many of us Big Boyz are members of other sites as well as MCM, that's as it should be. I just wanted to to make you aware that Scale Motorcars is just getting started up with an on-line contest for 1/16th and larger model cars. There will be prize awards in the form of kits and do I dare say some cash prizes. Please don't think this is an attempt to promote SMC....far from it. The site is a bit difficult to navigate and they require registration for awards....but what the heck......anyone can register and perhaps walk off with a prize or some folding money. Whether you want to enter the contest or not is up to you. That's all I have to say about it.
  25. And let's not forget guys, you're seeing it first here on MCM. Big thanks goes to Gregg and staff for allowing TDR to strut our goodies here in the forum.
