The New TDR 427 Roadster Kit
GrandpaMcGurk replied to DaytonaTim's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Micheal, the final price hasn't been determined yet as it's still in the production stages. We are doing to our best to keep the price as low as possible but are not willing to cut corners to lower the price. However, to make it a little easier to purchase we have been considering offering it as a complete kit or in sub-assemblies. This approach would allow the purchase of one assembly at a time. In other words you would be able to start building at your own chosen speed and purchase the next assembly package as your hobby budget allowed without having to wait until the entire kit could be purchased. -

The New TDR 427 Roadster Kit
GrandpaMcGurk replied to DaytonaTim's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Thank you for your comments Harry, statements like yours are what inspires TDR to keep pushing forward. We really appreciate it. The Roadster is pretty exciting for sure, fiberglass bodies nearing completion from the Madd Fabricator and right on the heels of all that the Cuda body will go into production. Tim has mentioned before that after the show TDR is going take a good hard look at producing some 1/12th goodies as well. -
Central Florida clubs or shows??
GrandpaMcGurk replied to Doug McCabe's topic in Model Club News and Announcements
Okay, let's take all the nuts and bolts stuff off-site and see if we can put this together. The car show has the dogs, burgers...Rock n' Roll DJ and all that stuff. Parking, security etc. will all be handled, local radio announcements, print would be piggy backed with the 1:1 advertising.....all we have to do is rent some tables and get enough participants for the actual show & tell. Jim, PM me your e addy and we'll discuss it further. Who knows, let's see what shakes out. -
Central Florida clubs or shows??
GrandpaMcGurk replied to Doug McCabe's topic in Model Club News and Announcements
Jim, I just got off the phone with Classic Motorcars. I can't give you an exact date yet as to when our next full size show will be as this is the time of year for Barrett Jackson, the Turkey Rod run and the Big Daddy show are on the agenda, but I'll keep you posted. Just as well, it'll give us time to organize this gig. You've seen the show room, etc. So if you are willing to help with the legwork involved we can make this happen......you wanna' play? -
Central Florida clubs or shows??
GrandpaMcGurk replied to Doug McCabe's topic in Model Club News and Announcements
Jim, like you I'm a bit discouraged with the lack of interest that seems to prevail here in Fla. as far as a model car shows go. As you know good hobby shops in the area are few and far between. The ones that are here are deep with R/C, planes etc......slim pickin's for sure. I thought that combining a model car show with a full size iron show would generate a lot more interest. That doesn't seem to be the case. My thinking at this point is if we can gather up enough folks to start a local club we would have enough muscle to pull off a show. -
Cato....shame on you dude, Dave no doubt is an extraordinary gentleman and a highly skilled modeler. At times I've wondered if he may be Clark Kent reincarnated. However, after seeing your GT build you are already signed up for your next E ticket ride. Perhaps one day I'll be able to keep up with you. Catching up with Dave's' interstellar builds is going to take a while.

I just did something stupid....
GrandpaMcGurk replied to Clay's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Don't feel bad Clay, I once topped off a chain saw with really old nasty Av Gas from a can thinking it was a 40:1 2 stroke mix......should have been able to tell by the odor but stupidity prevailed........I now label my fuel cans. By the way, the chain saw ran like gang busters before melt down. -
Cato, you a fantastic job with the GT, by the way Modelexpo has a 40% OFF plastic kit sale running until the end of Sept. Although they don't have them in stock one can be ordered for (if I remember correctly) around $155 bucks.

Plastic Surgery for the 1/8th "Big T"
GrandpaMcGurk replied to GrandpaMcGurk's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Thanks Derrick.....floor & foot board -
Guilty as charged and I've had more than my fair share of trips into the dark zone...after all I've owned Pinto's, Corvairs, Studes, etc. Even tried to drive an early VW on a lake 'cause they said the car was watertight and would float. Well it did....and the rear wheels motivated it (very slowly) with the front tires acting as rudders.........all well and good until the engine burped and I tried to crawl out the window. Point is no one else was at risk. My kick around driver is a '96 Ford 150 shortbed with 200,000 miles on it. It's it safe? Yep! It doesn't cost a lot to keep an older car maintained compared to the cost of new one, having to hobble home is one thing but continued use knowing that there is a problem that can be dealt with isn't. Yeah, the stories are funny, but guys we'd like you stick around awhile, be safe!

jbwelda.......... I'm not going to burn up any more MCM space with this TDR matter than is needed so I'll be be as brief as possible. Please allow me the courtesy of hearing me out before this turns into a big debate and causes ill feelings. You bought an RP version of the TDR Offy and found that based on your particular needs that some of the parts were were difficult for you personally to finish out....that's understood. I also have to assume that you read the ad that stated this "new" Offy was a limited edition as we have no intention of replacing the original with it at this time....they are produced in small quantities (as we've stated) and when the supply on hand runs out, won't be available again until we've completed some other projects. The RP version will stay in place in the catalog but not the "limited edition". However, and please let me make this clear.....if you had contacted TDR directly this situation would have been resolved professionally and quickly with no fuss. We strive to keep our customers happy and a big thanks goes out to Gregg for allowing us to show our wares here first. In an effort to put a smile on your face, here's what TDR is willing to do to achieve that end. First of all please, either go through TDR (the addy is in my sig line)or contact me personally off-site. Secondly if you would like to replace some of your parts with cast resin pieces we will sell them to you without having to buy another whole kit. Understand that I'm not saying we will do one injector tube because you broke one. Look at it from our point of view...we responded to you guys that perhaps don't have the time or patience to finish out the parts by doing all that for you with no increase in the price of the original kit and offered it limited quantities. We are not in a position to become full time resin casters.....yet! So there you have it, we may cast some retro fit resin parts as a separate package and add it to the catalog latter on, but for the time being let's get this off the forum and TDR will do every thing we can to keep you as a customer....okay?

You're right Syd, TDR is also looking at adding some metal parts for these engines in the future....they may be in complete kits or as an option, haven't decided yet. However, that's down the road and asking TDR to send them out free to buyers of the kits that were produced earlier just isn't possible. It would be like asking HP to send me a new 'puter to replace the one I bought a few months ago because they upgraded their machine. I can tell you at this point I think the matter should have been sent directly to TDR rather than the forum but the question was asked here and TDR doesn't ignore legitimate questions or input.

Public Notice
GrandpaMcGurk replied to Steve Keck's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Harry, as you know I've been down this road before with SMC for more years than I care to remember and I'm pretty thick skinned, if you need a helping hand, email me privately. -
Yeah, you still have my attention Harry....good stuff!!!! So, now I have a question......'spose I wanted to do a background (mood setting, say to speak) and wanted to pick up some object reflections of the background (distorted to conform to the the curves of the body) in the paint........more layers with knock outs?

Darn it guys, I know that situtions and dollars can cloud ones judgement at times but driving a car that you know is unsafe is just plain dumb. Putting your own life and limbs at risk is one thing, but when it involves others on public roadways that can be harmed because of your "unsafe" vehicle doesn't give you brass stones......think about it and please consider others as well as yourself.

emodelcars.com update
GrandpaMcGurk replied to crispy's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
eBay ain't what it used to be....such is life. Over time it has evolved from a flea market to a platform for the buy cheap & sell high get rich quick guys. I know for a fact that many sellers buy though Hobby Lobby and other sales and sit on them until the production run ceases. Then they put them up for sale at ridiculous prices. A lot of these sellers could care less about the models, it's the bucks they are after, add to that the eBay fees & and sellers "bogus" shipping & that magic "handling" fee (passed on to you).....well, you get my drift......I'm signing up with emodelcars today. It'll grow as as more modelers become aware that you can find some "real" bargains there......I don't have the time to sort through all the overpriced junk on evil bay. -
Way to go Harry, it's about time someone took the time to walk through photo-shop to dispel some of the "I can't do that" mystique that surrounds these programs. Perhaps when you are through with this thread you could help me with Adobe Illustrator or teach me how to yodel? Just kidding big guy....the biggest problem I have is remembering what tools do what, the rest of my problem is old age and my right hand automatically reaches for an air brush or pencil. You are spot on with the layer stuff.....but my mind thinks in hand cut friskets etc. Is there a pill I could take?

The Big One
GrandpaMcGurk replied to Romell R's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Romell, does it have it's own zip code? Considering the scale you are working with that's one big puppy. Heck the 1/8th Cuda I'm working on is only around 22" and my 1/6th Willys will probably finish out close to 26". For what it's worth, I'm impressed.......good on ya dude. Great attention to detail! -
I don't post in this thread often but living here in Florida within driving distance of ModelExpo is a plus. I've done a fair amount of biz with them and they are a top notch company...tools, wood ships & aircraft, tons of plastic models etc. never had any problems etc. They are discontinuing some plastic models so I went on a shopping spree to take advantage of the discounts......I picked up an R/M 1/8th Deuce 3 n'1, Lindy double dragster (the drag coupe had already sold out) and a big tub....they ran me about approx. $69 bucks each. I have to pay sales tax as they are local to me. Still, that's about 40% off! I also picked up these kits....Lindy Fiat dragster (1/12th) 24 bucks and a 1/12th '57 chebbie for $48 dollars. Sorry guys I bought the last of what they had! However, they have a lot of 1/25th scale stuff at 40% off. I don't know how much longer the sale will run but perhaps it would be worth your while to check them out and get on their mailing list.

new to MCM - Deuce builder
GrandpaMcGurk replied to Esteban Loco's topic in Welcome! Introduce Yourself
Hey Steve, Welcome to the MCM forum......think you'll enjoy it once you get comfy. If you get the time would you give the guys here a peek or two at some of your other builds also.......I've always really liked the pics of your Camaro, the one that had just a touch of mist & rain drops....ahhhhh there I go again, I'll stop there before I start rambling on about the Emerald Deuce etc. Have fun..... .
