Well, Chris, at this point it's just me goofing around with these parts..........and I have a few reservations......there are a few aspects to these pieces at 1/16 scale that make them a bit fragile...........we've had no discussion within TDR as to whether to offer them for sale or not..........now, if someone just has to have them, they could send me a PM and we could talk about it...............

This is another of those ideas that I get started on and am never sure how far I will take it, but since this one has gotten a bit along, I thought I would post it up........... I have always liked the VW-based fiberglass-bodied dune buggies, and by extension, the tube-framed sand rails and such.......I like the mechanical stuff, and these cars have it all hanging right out there............... Here, in 1/16 scale is a frame, based on the aftermarket pieces out there.............pretty much the stock VW pan shortened 14.25 inches or so, and will take the stock early Beetle front and rear suspension parts............... My original intent is to do a Meyers Manx-type body, but I have never been real happy with the bodies I have done, so not sure if I will get that far...........and since this is based around the stock VW pan, I have a version of this frame with the stock wheelbase, so I might use it with the Revell 1/16 scale Kafer Beetle kit.............lots of possibilities there............... We shall see.....................

For me, Bill's comment here is spot-on...............not everyone will have a 3D printer in their home, just like we all don't have a band-saw, and who can really say what the specific impacts will be..................this is really about options, and having choices about how we pursue this hobby..............more choices and intriguing options are really good things...............enjoy................

More on the Uncertain Tee

Here is a nicely done 1/8 scale build............ http://largescalemodelers.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=bigwheels&action=display&thread=86 -
Now this should be pinned at the top of the main page.....................Oh yea, but nobody reads the pinned stuff..................never mind.................

And it will always be the task of the moderators to deal with it.................no easy solution there.....................

Apparently you do.............with the number of sub-sections here, there will inevitably be these kinds of situations..........people do their best to interpret things, and the results are obviously all over the place............and as such, someone needs to moderate that.......................
-
Just an observation, but when I first started spending time on this forum, I was a bit overwhelmed with the number of specific sub-sections...........for any given post, it might be appropriately placed in 2 or more sections...........is not the answer to a question often a tip?..................so I am not surprised that the mods are busy moving stuff around...............not sure there is a good fix for it though.....

How fast ya wanna go?

Here are the numbers that got me..............."0-300 kmh (186.4 mph) in 13.63 seconds"................that hurts just thinking about it................ -
Curt...........this was indeed loosely based on a 1:1 trike..............if you do a Google image search on "porsche trike," you will find 3 or 4 images of a yellow, Porsche-powered trike.........these few images are all I have ever been able to find, and it was the inspiration for this build..................I already had the CAD files for the engine and transaxle, and thought, "Yea, this could work".....................

Thanks, Ira, I appreciate the good word............. And Don's comment about this being 1/16 scale, well, it's a bit small for my drifting eye-sight and fat fingers, however, I took a shot at flaring some aluminum tubing for the ram tubes on the throttle bodies............then installed the intakes on the engine.........

Chroming 3D printed plastic

Those Stromberg carburetors at 1:16 scale, in my opinion, are pushing the limits a bit, and will require some prep prior to finishing............keep in mind that those parts are less than a half an inch tall, and there is a lot of detail going on there............but they clean up nicely, and easily................given the results that Norm has gotten here, I suspect that the finished carb should be quite nice..............and I, as others, would be interested in seeing the results if you should get them plated................
