  1. I have always been tempted to recreate the "Two Lane Blacktop" car..............
  2. Joe...........I had someone else ask about an automatic, too, so I guess I should put it on my list of stuff to do............. Alan..........these parts were done to verify that they come through the print process ok at 1/16 scale..........however, I do have stashed away a 1/16 55 Bel Air hardtop kit.........that would be a nice place for this......... Tony
  3. Here are a few more pieces for the big-block Chevrolet...........Muncie 4-speed transmission and tunnel-ram intake with dual Holleys (intake and carbs in light primer only)...........
  4. Here are further visuals.........the flathead parts were printed at Shapeways in the Frosted Ultra Detail material........................ http://www.youtube.com/user/Shapeways Tony
  5. Shane..........these parts were done so I could see how they came through the printer at 1/16 scale...........if the interest is there, I will talk to the other guys at TDR and see about getting the pieces into the catalog.........I've also got other stock pieces along with Stromberg intakes, Offenhauser and Navarro heads, as well as SCOT parts..................it just takes a little time to prepare the files................. Tony
  6. For you more traditional hot rodders out there, here are some test pieces in 1/16 scale for an Ardun converted flathead Ford with the early Hilborn fuel injection............and an adapter to run the GM Muncie 4 speed transmission........ Some of these pieces are really too small, and should probably be combined with their adjacent parts, but they all came through the printer pretty well............the distributor cap just amazes me, even the openings for the wires are there............. More images here for those interested: http://public.fotki....cale-ford-flat/ Tony
  7. Thought I would put a bit of paint on the 1/16 Big-block Chevy pieces and see how it comes together............no real prep on the 3D printed pieces, though I did use a Scotchbrite pad (green) on the oil pan and valve covers, but just a little......otherwise, just primed and painted........good to remember here just how small these 1/16 scale parts are.......
  8. Hans...........not to hijack your thread, but here are a couple of images of the IFS / IRS for the Deuce that I did a while back............... Pm me if you would like to know more..............
  9. Well, this just took me back to the mid sixties, and the Big Deuce that I built right after I finished the Big T................10, maybe 11 years old.................... That is the kind of kit you just want to put away.............too nice to do anything else with it..............I suspect those who collect un-built kits would pay real money...........I recently picked up an E-type Jaguar from the original issue, and the body pieces are so clean, the tooling must of been real new................it's just really neat holding the pieces in your hand................ If you do sell it, go out big............the right person is going give you serious cash..........................it's worth every penny................... Oh, and having met the rep back in the day, well, that's just a bonus................. And San Diego is still pretty much paradise.................. ajwheels
  10. TDR has listed the rim, hub and hub cap pieces in their catalog at Shapeways: http://www.shapeways.com/shops/tdrcatalog Some assembly required...................
  11. Here is a front and rear wheel, with a bit of color, in the early Firestones..........
  12. I know I am not alone in this, but I always thought that the Big Deuce needed a nice set of wires..........these were loosely modeled after the 1935 32 spoke variety.......the rim and center section were 3D printed with the spoke holes in place at the correct angles and all.............032" piano wire was used for the spokes...........the rim is sized to fit the Deuce tire (this being the rear) and the the rear backspacing / offset, as well as the bolt circle matches the steel wheels found in the kit..........the hub cap is a first pass at something appropriate........ Additional images here for those interested.......Deuce Wire Wheel ajwheels
  13. Santiago.............I live in the Clairemont area of San Diego...............you close?.................. ajwheels
  14. Casey.............the material used here is the Frosted Ultra Detail....................there are some real limitations in the smaller scales for these printed parts........those who are looking for a 1/16 scale part that will drop right in and look perfect will be disappointed.............and a lot of pieces are just not doable in these scales......................however, in a lot of cases, those who are willing to take a bit of time can bring these parts to a very acceptable level...........and it is a reasonable alternative to scratch building to this kind of detail, or putting up with a very funky piece provided in the original kit.................all of us have choices here, and TDR just hopes to provide a few more........... ajwheels
  15. Mike.......that detail there was an experiment so I could see how those features come through the print process.............the engines that TDR makes available are essentially hollowed out, primarily to minimize the amount of material used (which determines cost), and because that internal detail is not seen..........but it is kind of fun to push that detail and see what you get.............these would make great diorama pieces, and if the interest was there, we could make them available.................there's a whole lot of possibilities here................. ajwheels
  16. Thanks all for the comments........... Joe, it just so happens that I have parts being printed for the big block Chevy (no internal detail, though) in 1/16, and we'll see how they come out.............. Santiago, the LS engines have been on my list for a long time now, but I think I would do the ZL-1, LT-5 first, those overhead cams are just too cool...................... Jason, I have CAD files for all the internal pieces for the small block, and have been tempted, but it's tough to figure out what to do next...................... Terry, I do the CAD drawings and I gather as much info online as I can for these engines, and in the case of the small block Chevy, I have a copy of a GM authorized book called Chevy Power from a few years back, and in there are some basic, dimensioned drawings, and then from photos I fill in the rest......the result is not exact, but close and recognizable to most who are familiar with the part..........sometimes it's really just an elaborate sketch, but I try to get it accurate within reason........... We (TDR) really want to get more of this stuff out there, but we tend to get pulled in a lot of different directions...........but we'll stay after it............ ajwheels
  17. As TDR continues to experiment with the smaller scale pieces, I thought I would show what we are finding is possible as the printers and materials continue to get better........ These parts were cleaned with a solvent and then lightly primed........no surface finishing at all................ More pics here................1/16 Scale Small Block Chevrolet album | Ajwheels | Fotki.com, photo and video sharing made easy. ajwheels
  18. TDR may have a 1/16 Holley available..............you might send a note along to tdr.innovations@gmail.com and see what's up...............
  19. Legend has it that the TDR Roadster was configured with a variety of intake variations over time..............as for the 427 Cobra, it's competition history is sparce, for Shelby did not build enough of them to homologate the car, and as such could not run in the production classes.......and it was just not competitive elsewhere.......
  20. Well, as we have now put this out in the open, I thought I might send along a few images of the 427 side-oiler.........a work in progress, a few different configurations and such.............. The intent is to make available the single Holley double-pump and down-draft Weber set up (shown), as well as the dual Holley BJ/BK intake (not shown)........also, lurking in the image, in addition to the standard, stamped steel valve covers, are finned, cast aluminum types so common to these motors.......and then there is the extra-capacity, cast oil pan as well........and not to forget, also in work is the 4 speed, toploader transmission to back this all up............ Yep, we're having fun now............can't wait to see all this come together............ Tony
  21. As in real life, the Delco 10SI series alternator is too deep to be mounted in front of the cylinder head face on the small-block Chevrolet unless a long-style water pump is used, or a multi-groove pulley is adapted. On this model, which has the short-style water pump, this alternator will need to be mounted down below the cylinder head, or up high and outside the head / valve cover face. Note the attached pictures and the relative size of the alternator and thus the locations used to mount it. Hope this helps............ Tony
  22. Just so we stay on topic.............an image of the TDR XK engine, done by our buddy Sydeem............. Tony
  23. All good stuff here.............but I gotta add Tarantinos's Death Proof..............kind of brings it all back around.................... ajwheels
