  1. So that will explain the rainbow appearance you have. All the paint particles that didn't wash off!
  2. Yes, I did have to paint it Italian Red! It's the only red I have right now! No, I did not take it into the shower with me, but I did hear a rumor take a certain modeler in Michigan takes all his model into the shower with him! ;) Care to comment on that, Eelco?
  3. The Story-2011 McNally and Sgt. Troy drive over to Johnny's house to give Teresa the bad news about her husband. McNally hasn't seen Teresa in a long time and it will be a very unhappy reunion. After performing their sad duty, Adam returns to headquarters and McNally remains with Teresa to comfort her and quietly ask a few questions about Johnny, who apparently has not had a job for almost a year and may have been working under the table to help support his family. McNally walks around outside while Teresa gets ready to go and pickup the kids from school and wanders over to the 2-car garage and looks inside to see a car covered with a tarp. He pulls off the tarp to see the Dart that he and Johnny had worked on together so many years ago. The Build I wanted this Dart to have a back seat, but I didn't want spend the time trying to create a new floor for the GTS interior so my Dremel happily cut it out of the GTS interior pan. With a little bit of fitting and sanding, the back seat will fit like a glove. McNally will return...
  4. Thanks Andy! I viewed your build and I like what I see. There is nothing wrong with including a story with your WIP, just as long as the story doesn't overwhelm the build.
  5. I like what you have going here and it is looking good so far, Andy! I even like your story, too. I say, build it the way you want and don't worry too much about the details. Some of the details describe by others can be informative, but can't be applied to a model car. Keep up the good work!
  6. Keep watching Chris! The Story 1975- The boys get the car home to Johnny's house and instead of just tearing it apart, they put a plan of attack together. They will inspect the car and decide on a "shopping list" of what they need. They will swap, deal, work, and if necessary...buy the parts for the car. McNally was the first to score a deal...a old set of Cragar SS mags without the center caps for $50. Johnny wasn't too happy about it at first since he really wanted to find a motor and trans to get the car rolling, but he did realize that a set of Cragar's for $50 was a bargin. The mags will need a good cleaning and polishing to look good again. The Build I started off by removing the GTS scripts from the front fenders. I got the basic engine glued together and prepped for paint. As you can see here, I am using a stock dual carb manifold and dual 4-barrel carbs from my parts box instead of trying to fix the kit's rat roaster manifold. McNally will return...
  7. Thanks guys! I'm pretty happy about how this one came out! The wheels are perfect considering that the stock wheels are a smaller diameter and look lost in the wheel wells. Patrick, I had noticed that the rear bumper was a bit wider than the box, but I didn't think it would be worth the effort to try and shorten it. IIRC, the 1:1's are about the same. If I was going for a custom look on the truck, then having the bumper perfectly in-line with the bed and even molded into the bed would have been necessary.
  8. Thanks guys! I am still working out the kinks in the story, but it should be entertaining coming from an amateur writer like me. Like my other builds with a storyline, the story is kept short so the focus is more on the build itself.
  9. My new project is the Revell '68 Hemi Dart with a new storyline featuring McNally, Boston PI. The story is called "Childhood Friends" and is only to show what is driving this WIP. The Build I am using Revell's '68 Hemi Dart. This will represent a street driven Dart with a stock looking body. My paint is Model Master Hemi Orange Lacquer. I am considering using a 6-Pack hood scoop, but I might just stick with the Hemi scoop. The Story 1975- The two teenagers found the old Dart at a used car lot. They both saw the potential in the old car, what it could be and what it would look like. One of them didn't have the money to buy the car, but the other did and they both would work on the car together. The old Dart would have a big block engine, mag wheels, and a 4-speed transmission. And a bright paint job! The car was going to be a fast and colorful car and quite the chick magnet. Johnny Hallis and his childhood friend, McNally would share everything involving this car. It was their dream... 2011- Portable lighting lit the crime scene brightly and was accented by the blue flash from the surrounding squad cars. Det. Sgt. Adam Troy was writing down notes when a patrol officer called his name from the tapeline. He looks up to see McNally standing at the line and waves him through. "Do you know this person? He had your card in his pocket." McNally kneels down to look at the victim's face, "Yes, it's Johnny Hallis. I grew up with him." McNally will return...
  10. I have finished my F-150 Lightning and it is posting in Under Glass. I would like to thank all those who took the time to view and to comment on my WIP.
  11. This is my SVT F-150 Lightning painted with Tamiya TS-8 Italian Red and shod with Pegasus 19" Chrome T's and low profile tires.
  12. Looking good, Gus! The slap-stick shifter handle is black with a chrome button on the left side and a chrome shaft that goes into the console.
  13. Here's something to influence you a little, Clay! The stripes are on! More to come.....
  14. The body got another coat of paint this morning. The hood needs another coat of paint and then some flat black for the Performance Hood Treatment. More to come.....
  15. The body has gotten it's final coat of paint. Stripe decals in silver gray are next and then clearcoat. A mockup to check the stance and wheel placement. Lookin' good!!!!! More to come.....
  16. Snicker...snicker...OK, I...snicker...I promise not to...snicker...not to laugh...snicker...snicker! The truck has been repainted in the same, beautiful red as before. It's just minus the blemishes from before. I'll get some pictures up later.
  17. I sat down to wire the Hemi this afternoon. What this kit lacks is an ignition coil. With ingenuity being the mother of invention, I made my own out of a piece of round stock. I drilled a hole in the center, some glue and a piece of plug wire, and I have a coil! Some semigloss black paint, a small strip of foil, and the coil is complete. I just need to run the coil wire into the distributor. More to come.....
  18. I got the engine reseated properly since it sat high in the chassis. I should have notice this the first time around, but that's the way the cookie crumbles. More to come.....
  19. I had used two coats of Tamiya Gray Primer, neither light nor really heavy. After a long discussion yesterday with a good modeling friend, my application of paint may have been too heavy as I was following MCW's instructions. When I get to painting again, I may do a light, but not quite a mist coat of paint and see how it goes.
  20. That's great to hear! Any stay in a hospital, no matter how long, is too long!
  21. IMHO, the engineering here is 100% better!
  22. Happy Birthday George! I hope the cake will be big enough to hold all the candles!
  23. I hate wetsanding! I usually end up with more water up my sleeves than in the pan. It had to be done though, since the finish was very rough and almost to the point of looking like the hot paint had crazed the plastic. As hard as I try, painting is still a hit or miss with me. I should get Donn Yost's DVD's and learn how to paint correctly and consistantly. Back to the paintbooth! More to come.....
  24. Well, I finally broke down and performed one of my least favorite choirs...wetsanding. I don't like wetsanding since I make quite the mess on the bench and end up with more water up my sleeves than in the pan. My last coat of paint had so many flaws, runs, and trash that I just had to wetsand the finish. I was hoping to have the Lightning finshed for tomorrows Classic Plastic Model Club meeting, but that is not going to happen. More to come.....
  25. Personally, I wouldn't be in too much of a rush to get another one of these Lightning kits. IMHO, this is a poorly engineered kit requiring much patience building. I am getting near my limit with this one! The chassis is now complete with suspension, exhaust, radiator, engine, wheels and tires. The interior is in-process. The dash and the instrument panel do not have positive mating surfaces. This is going to take a little bit of work to correct. More to come.....
