Alllllrighty then !! Chassis finito, accomplished, finalized, discontinued construction, DONE. Take a peek, see ya tomorrow

Niko, just do what I did. Make the best possible model with the most skill you have, don't get lazy on details and warn people in the house before you scream at the top of your lungs.

Nitrozilla replied to John Teresi's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
John, just got back from my psychiatrist. He says I can't look at anymore pics of your builds because MY MIND IS ALREADY BLOWN !!!! Uber Schweet sir, uber....... -
Okay, so here's the plan. Tonite I finish the chassis. I just finished touchup on the body and it'll get gobs and gobs of clear tomorrow. Final assembly and pics as well. I can't wait. Just to keep the illusion of incompleteness, I'm putting the wheels on last. I'll post pics of the chassis when I'm done, hopefully around 9 or 10 PST. Tony T - Danke Dragracer - I KNOW, HUH??????? Diymirage - Don't sweat it, I'm going to use the Sony from now on. The phone was easy. With this thing I gotta keep the battery charged, pull the card, download, etc, etc, yada, yada, yada.........Bein' lazy. Wayne - Went by there today at noon and the closed sign said "Back by 10" Joe

Guess I had my reference pics mixed up Nick. Thought black looked coolest of the 2........ Does anybody else get twins mixed up? Just noticed the other not only has a red cage, but there's a shield plate behind it too. THAT would've looked good too. Thanx for having sharper eyes than a tri-focaled old guy....lol

'Preciate it guys. It was a joy most of the time. I always say that mood and attitude show in the final measure. Sure, this kit's been done a thousand times, but I never saw one with chute pull cords and a black rollcage like the one seen here: http://public.fotki.com/TommyDz/the-chi-town-hustle-1/ Thanx for the responses !!

Oh, this just got knee slappin' awesome. Just what this place needed, another master to bow to. What's next? We rub a lamp and Gene Winfield pops out? So, Mike, um, any of those features that lent itself to an idea that didn't make it onto the final artwork? Listen, I've got connections around here and I could use some influence on Mr. Teresi to, shall we say, fix that for you? HMMmmmmm? -
and a few more.....

Here's the model I finished before starting the U.S. Dart. Didn't have the good aftermarket addies, but did the best I could with what I had. Hopefully it shows what can be done with the bare minimum of onhand supplies. Thanx for looking.......
-
Um, is this what yer lookin' for? There was more touch up to do than I remembered, plus I built a rearview mirror for the headliner. I'm on the brink of being done, so for those of you who wanna see a completed project of mine, look in Under Glass for "Just Another Hustler." It's the model I finished before yanking out this build. Enjoy, have a nice nite. P.S. Thanx Wayne, but I spent a lot of today getting used to my good camera. These pics and the Hustler were taken with it. Doesn't mean we can't hook up though. I missed you last time at Henderson Hobbies. Wanna give it another shot?

I didn't know NASCAR had a Ride-Along program in the 70's. I'm kidding !! One of the coolest things I ever saw was a Nova funny car 2 seater that was completely street legal. I'm a basher too and I love the concept. Gonna be watching this. I'm psyched.

One of these days, I promise to pay attention

No problem there DoubleD. It's a legit question. I was assigned to 22nd Security and on loan to Law Enforcement. Not that it matters, but it is a different MOS. My partner and I got a call to the Airmen's Lounge where there was a fight going on. In the process of breaking up the fight, my back got slammed against a wall pretty hard. Nobody ever thought to tell me that having my handcuff pouch in the dead center of my spine was a bad idea. I had normal back pain, but there was a bruise the size of a cantaloupe. I don't need a nite lite 'cuz after all of the peeks at the inside of my body over the last 35 years, I now glow in the dark. I've been fighting back problems my entire life that flare up and incapacitate me for days at a time. I'm receiving disability from the Feds and a small stipend from the VA. Hope that clears it up. If you have any more questions, feel free to pm me. Thanx for the peeks John, Danno and all who have been following. Also Andy, nice link and cheap too !! Not a promise here folks, but I have a good chance of completing this bad boy today, so I'm gonna get to it.

Ultra-Clean and it's Blue. I love blue and I love a well built Dodge. Schweet !!

Eureka !! I got my decals and they work. Now just so you have the whole story, When the decals I made refused to lay down, fellow member DIYMIRAGE, my man, Eelco, stepped up and offered to print out my graphics file on his decal paper and it made all the difference in the world. Because I'm a brat and because I still need to get my good camera up and running I'll just show the underbelly and rollcage until I get the good stuff tomorrow. 'Til then:

That poor innocent Corvette has no idea what's happening to it. It's going, like, "He's chopping me up !! What's going on? AHHHHH !!!" Don't worry 'lil 'vette, you're in the hands of a master. -

I dunno John......kinda looks like it needs a big ol' honkin' blower stickin outa da hood. But then again, I think EVERYTHING should have at least one supercharger. And maybe a pair of machine guns poppin up from behind those headlights. OOOOHHHHHH !! And a top fuel type spoiler..... Or, you can just build it the way you want to. Have fun with it sir, I know we will. -
YOU ALL ROCK !! Honestly, I was expecting a heated debate over this and instead, you all came through with shining (Red / White / Blue) colors. There will be sponsorage and it will be RWB and it will be discreet. Besides, I gotta put a Gates decal on the blower belt. Wish I could find an all American lookin' Kieth Black logo. Found one with white and blue, but it's not right. At any rate, going to take the night off here, been a busy day with the VA. Always trying to find something wrong with my aging carcass. lol They serve too. See ya' tomorrow with an update. Hopefully my decals didn't decide to take a side trip to the Viet Nam Memorial on their way to me. If they did, that's okay too.

Since I am not a closed minded person, I'm willing to listen to a debate on this and I will not make a decision until I've heard from as many people who care to, chime in on this. So, tell all of your friends to drop in and give their opinion. As for myself, I understand the desire to keep it clean and not lose focus on the subject by cluttering it up with sponsorship badges that may be a distraction to the main subject. On the other tentacle, sponsors and parts makers are heavy contributors to Veteran's associations and charities. My original concept was to only use decals that compliment the primary red, white and blue theme. Therefore, that's why there is a white and blue Cragar decal in the center of the red & white stripes. This also eliminates a lot of decals that would otherwise be used. Can we consider this as an alternative? So let's make sure everyone does this in editorial fashion. Please state your preference and a solid reason why you feel that way. Even though I stated on my very first post of this thread, "Build for the build, not to everyone else's expectations of what's accurate or right", this is a matter of the heart and soul, not an issue of accuracy or build correctness. Let the debate begin and, please, keep it within it's intent of doing what's right for the Vet's and keep your responses measured and civil. Oorah !!

Oh Boy, all kindsa fun stuff to reply to: Horsepower, When yer right, yer right. Thanx for the info about the Titanium. I thought the newer TUBING they make the wheelies bar itself from was titanium, not that they used it for the spark showers. Did they use it in the olden days too? Seems like a pricey sparkler. Dragracer, it'll probably cause a hissy fit with some purests out there, but the Jungle car is the Hawaiian with Jungle markings. Got the idea when I found out he switched to MOPAR engines in '72 or '73. This Charger is of course a '69, but you get the idea. I'll be posting it as soon as this is done. Chassis is box stock with some added goodies. Termite, I'm Nam Era too, but, somebody had to protect the bases at home, so that was me and my pals. I was however, part of Operation Homecoming at March AFB. Seeing the physically and psychologically wounded, not to mention the drug addicted soldiers was heart-breaking. Might as well have been there. Concerning the camera, that's my Droid phone. I'll use a Sony H9 digital for the finished pics. Alrighty group, got some decaling started. Using a combo of the Melanie Troxel set from Slixx and some custom stuff that's on the way. Enjoy all.

I'm getting over the window tint disaster. Tried saving the old one, may it find friends in Model Windshield Heaven. Scratched, cracked, opaque, warped, stepped on...it doesn't matter, they all go to MWH. Finished chassis at 95%. Final steps are upper driveshaft shield, install motor, hook up fuel tanks and fire it up !! I mean final touch up. Got the word my decals are winging their way across the country to me. Hopefully, done this weekend. After I finish my next project, the Jungle Jim tribute, I've got a surprise. No self respecting wheelstander drives itself to an event now, does it? I guarantee y'all will flip out when I reveal the pair of trucks I'll need for the project. I promise wicked kewlness.

I'm with you LAone. I started building again after seeing some of the stuff being built on this board and Mr. Teresi and others were my main inspiration. The wheelie bar on my LA Dart was ripp.., er, uh, ...... I mean inspired by John's "Chuckwagon". What's next John? I vote for a nostalgia funny car or anything with gull wing doors. A funny car with gull..........nvm. )))

Have you ever had one of those projects where everything you make or do, only works on the 3rd attempt? I'll give y'all a fer instance. I spent 1 1/2 hours carefully shaping the rear window to fit within the body templates. Outstanding !! Perfect fit !! Now for a little blue tint. (Backstory, sold my 3rd collection a year ago, so, no airbrush yet.) Tried tinting some Future floor wax with blue dye. 2 drops made it very dark, but several dippings and nothing was building up. I washed it all off and shot it with Transparent Blue. On the first light coat, the can sputtered, ruining it. Now the window is a template for clear blue sheet plastic. As for the decals Rick, the ones I made all curl up when applied. Used Decal Set & Decal solvent. No good. Sigh. It's just the nature of the build. I don't get angry at the plastic, I get even. Sorry it's slowing it up. I wanna see it done as much as everybody else. Richard, I wasn't a Marine, but, "OORAH !! Things will hopefully go smoother soon. There's light at the end of the tunnel.......... Hang in there, I will.

Houston, we have (another) problem. Just a minor delay folks while a fellow board member and I figure out what to do about my decal dilema. Since I was going to reveal the theme in this next post, I'll show you the decals that aren't working, while I await replacements.
