I'm going for a "Cadillac version of the Buick Y-job" Look. Kinda art deco meets cadzilla. I'll be using a 57 Corvette interior. I didn't have time for a full on concept drawing yet but here is the model with the cockpit swap, some marker lines where some of the body mods will be, and I blended in the cruddy-ness to give a better idea of how the finished product will look. What do you guys think?

this is a badly treated Premier Cadillac Built up that I hope to ressurect as an ultra Kool Kustom... pretty sweet huh?

I'm willing to bet the Camaro doesn't...lol...just bustin' yer chops Mark 8) -
I decided to give the full detail follow up to the curbside Barely 'Cuda a more Muscle car look, So I'm using a set of Marc Nellis' 19 inch Mopar steelies, sleeved in the rear to make 23 inchers. It will be powered by a Lamborghini V12 engine, 4WD and rear transaxle. Here is the roughed in bodywork. in the end it will look like the drawing (I hope!) Let me know what you think. Darin

Hey Dirk, we actually met once back in 2001 at a show in Spartanburg SC. I bent your ear for quite a while asking you questions about how you did your AMT Slammer based black street rod. I would love to see that model posted here. I thank you for your kind compliments, your work has inspired me a lot too. Darin

Very well done. The engine looks very real

The amt kit is of a first generation 289 Cobra, and more specificly an early one at that. it has no fender vents, and worm gear steering. The monogram cobras are 427 Cobras. This Model technically isn't a Cobra at all. In 1967 when Shelby Cobra production ended they continued building them but didn't use the Cobra name. also the 427 engine was very expensive so they used the less expensive 289 engine. The official name of this car is "AC 289". It was never officially imported to the USA, but a handful made it here.

I've been a big fan of your builds for years and that is my hands down favorite! I didn't know the revell wrx had an engine either, so i'm doubly suprised...awesome work!

My 1961 Buick Surfer car **IN PAINT NOW**

Actually the cobra colors are for other projects, This will be done as a not so ratty surf-rod. All black with Mike LaVallee style "Real Fire" coming out of the portholes. I will shave the door handles and give it the rake you see in the top picture. The steel wheels will be painted a contasting color, I haven't decided which though. Here is a pic of the true flame decals I drew up for this car... -
I am restoring this built up I got off of Ebay. It was fairly clean, no glue marks and very little paint. Whatcha think?

My name is Darin Bastedo, I've been building models for about 32 years. As you get to know me you'll find that I build just about anything from Replica Stock to the wildest of customs and show rods. I have Big soft spot for Cobras and other sports cars of the 60's. My friends joke around that my favorite color is primer gray because i always have about a dozen in-progress projects. I reside in Kingsport TN and work in retail sales. My favorite build to date is this 1967 AC 289. while to the untrained eye it looks like a 427 Street cobra, there are many subtle changes to it. The AC 289 was produced in England for domestic consumption, athough a few were exported to europe, and a couple even made it across the pond to the good old USA. It used a standard 289 engine similar in tune to that used in the leaf spring cobras but was put in the coil sprung 427 chassis. the rear fenders are the narrow 427 fenders that graced the first 30 Street 427 cars. they were used on this version because it used the narrower wire wheels that would have looked silly in wider 427 S/C fenders that the majority of 427 cars had. I made this modification to the Monogram 427 street Cobra kit, as well as filling the side pipe holes, scratch building the rear exit exhaust and adding Detail master wire wheels. so without further ado, here are the pics... A photo of the real thing... Hope to get to know you all better. Darin Bastedo

My chopped, sliced and diced 40 Ford......
Darin Bastedo replied to Brian Nehring's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Models are very carefully regulated for coolness, that way no one model has all the coolness. Your 40 has way, way too much coolness for one model. In all seriousness, I think you went the right way eshewing the traditional look and pushing the envelope. I can't wait to see this one done. -
I can't wait to see it done. The over all look is very balanced.
