I know many of you are involved in full size cars too... I'm about a week out from publishing a new website, for east coast car enthusiasts. This will be a site complete with an event calender, interveiws with interesting characters in the east coast car scene, show coverage, and a comprehensive event calender. There will even be a message board where hopefully car owners can share stories, tech advice, and possibly get to know people outside their areas. Eventually there may even be classified ads. What I need and what I offer is this; The Event calender will be available to all Events east of the Missisippi free of charge. If any of you belong to a club or oaganization that puts on Car shows, swap meets, or cruise nights. I would like you to email me with either the event info or contact info for the person in your group who's job it is to promote your event. When possible the listing in the event calender will include an image of your event flyer and/or a link to your club's website. My hope is to provide a reliable source of east coast car happenings so that the hobby can grow. Please email me at; darin.bastedo@gmail.com TIA. Darin Bastedo

Tamiya shows new life. Mercedes McLaren SLR coming!
Darin Bastedo replied to Zoom Zoom's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I built one when it first came out, the photo etched hood vents are a little fiddly, but go together nice if you take your time, and the frame had some grooves on the bottom to fill, but other than that it went together nice. now you add the MCG photoetch & resin detail set and things get really fiddly, but still builds into a really nice replica... ...now the McLaren on the other hand... -

An idea for a new board section...

Thanks billy that was exactly what i was thinking. having a board section where we could post links to 1:1 Referance albums for the benefit of others could be beneficial. -
So...here's where everyone is!

So true, It used to be that the flame wars were few and far between. There would be a flare up every so often but 90% of the time things would be fine, but it seems like everyday now there is some new drama, and you have to be so careful how you word things. one guy even got flamed for asking too many questions, even though they were on topic questions. I figured i'd make this board my home and reduce my stress level. -

It looks like I may be the next one to quietly disappear there and re-appear here. posting on the "other board" is becoming way too much work. -

Darin Bastedo replied to gasman's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
All I'm saying is I have seen some of the cars and talked to some of the owners, and these are nice cars. not to mention these cars get fully worked over and tuned well after the seven days build so technically Day these aren't "7 Day Builds" -
Photo program

I would have to agree with Jairus. Photoshop elements is far & away the best out there. It essentially has all the basic features and quality of the full photoshop CS2 with out the high end facy stuff and $700 price. -

Overhaulin Bel-Air on EBAY

While it is true, that the cars on this show aren't up to normal "Pro Built show car standards" , I have seen a few of these cars in person, and can attest that these are far and away better built than most well built ameture customs. while many of these have small areas where they might lose points in a judged car show, 100% of the time these cars leave the shop far cooler, and safer than they arrived. On many boards I hear people say that you can't build a car in 7 days, and that these are POSs that are just "slapped together". Having a team of 30 or so people each with a specific job, using proven parts & techiques you can do it. Keep in mind that most nascar race cars are built in not much more time. The trick to how foose does this is, you will notice that he rarely pushed the envelope as far as modifications. Most of the mods to these cars involve bolt on parts, or body mods he and his crew have done a hundred times over. 90% of the time he uses pre-built crate engines and trannies, Bolt-on suspension mods, bolt-on brake upgrades, and most of these parts are often installed and set up but the people who designed and built them. How many times have you heard things like "Here are the guys from Magna flow to install the exhaust" or "here are the guys from Baer Brakes to install the brakes" Most of the work done on these cars are done by experts in their field who know the pitfalls and potential problems they face. The reason they are able to do a car in 7 days where most pro's wouldn't be able too, is because they are a TV show they have access to people and support that most shops don't. try to get Art Carr to come to your garage to install the tranny some time. It's not just that they have 30 people working on the car but they always have thirty of the most experiences builder working on the car. He can get it done because he is Chip Foose, with a national TV show, and has access to all tyhe best help. You or I wouldn't be able to do it in seven days, nor would most pro's. It's all about having access and experience, and also knowing the limitations of the time table. You will notice that everytime he pushed the envelope he went over, but he was willing to blow the deadline to do it right. -
This model was given to me by my friend Drew, so that I could build a scale version of the Car I want to build in 1:1. Hopefully having the scale model on my shelf will inspire me to get going on a real one. I have everything I need for that so far except the car & all the parts to convert it...lol I'm converting a Tamiya 1966 VW into this... what do you guys think?

Been Getting Some models ready for paint...
Darin Bastedo replied to Darin Bastedo's topic in WIP: Model Cars
I use plasticote T-235 Gray sandible primer exclusively. It works under just about anything. as far as clear goes it all depends on whether I use decals or not. Hot laquer has a tendancy to attack the decals i print so if I need to clear over them I use future. But if I'm just going over the Cobra Colors paint I use the clear I buty from Cobra Colors. It dries fast, and hard, and polished out to a very glossy shine. -
