Henry... Thank you Joe... Thanks Bud! Scott... Thanks bud... Been Trying to work with that blacken-it .... will show my results with some pics Ray... Thank you so much for the kind words on my craftsmanship. Tyrone.... Thanks man... I need to hurry up and finish this so I can join you all with a pro mod build...lol Richard... Thanks man. The results weren't as great as I was hoping. I have pics that will show my samples. Gabriel... I have tried both ways non sanding and sanding the brass to see if the results were any different. Derrick... Welcome back man and thanks for the kind words. this build is plugging along but not as fast as I would like. That is awesome to hear about the new house and model room. Dave.... Thanks Bud!! Its much appreciated. Ok guys well I have been having a little bit of a hard time getting motivated lately for some reason but I messed around with some sample pieces of brass with the Blacken-It with what I would call a poor turn out. I tried it the way the instructions said to by leaving the part soak in the solution for 30 to 90 seconds. then I even did some from 5 to 10 to 15 mins just to see what would happen. It didn't get as dark as I was hoping but then regardless of which time method I tried after a little while or a day I went back to sorta rub the piece with a towel and some of the coating actually came off. Not sure if I am doing something wrong but it looks like I may have to end up painting these pieces. Here is the results from my tests.... Side one of the testing.... some of the black looks really nice but then you can see the areas that came off: Here are the same parts flipped over to the opposite side with the same result: -

Hey Brad and Scott... thank you for the Bday wishes. I also apologize that I didn't get these few pics uploaded last night like I said I was. I finally finished up the front motor mounts on this and I am so glad to have that monkey off my back. All I need to do now is use some of micro marks Blacken-It on the brass. I am going to test a few sample pieces of brass and see how it turns out and if I am happy with the way it looks then I will do the motor mounts instead of having to paint them. Anyway here are a few pics to show you guys the finished motor mounts. This first pic is just to show that these motor mounts were all hand made by using my xacto razor saw and pin vise as well as using my plastic mounts as templates. Here is was using a sanding stick to sand the burs off the edges: The finished right hand side mount finally: Front view of the finished Front Motor Mounts: -

Hey Scott.... I use solidworks and autocad but do most of my stuff in Solidworkds but I can save my files out in .dxf, .dwg., I can save drawings as .pdfs to show you the drawing and there are a few other ways I can save them out as. I can also save it out as an Adobe illustrator as well. I will have to do something to show you -

Hey Scott... The belts in my el camino are lever style as well I will take pics of both for you. with a ruller or tape measure so you can see. I am thinking maybe I could draw them up quick in my cad program and i could put the dimensions on them as well for you. -
You need to take a look in the drag raci.g section. you will find many great pro mod builds going on there that you can use for reference.

Ok Guys.... I have a little small update to show you on the brass motor mounts..... First off I wanted to show you that I trimmed more of the plastic motor mounts down a little before using them as templates to create the brass ones: I first started out by tracing the plastic motor mount on to brass. I took a blue sharpie and colored the brass and then used a straight edge and plastic piece to square up my brass and the motor mount. I proceeded to trace the motor mount by using the back of my xacto knife and scribed into the brass. Then once I had the brass scribed with the outline I then tranfer drilled the holes: I sorta forgot to take a few pics in between the last pic and what I am showing here: Once I was done with final cutting and sanding here is my new motor mount out of .016" thick brass: Here is a mock up of the motor mount with one brass and one plastic. I now need to do the other side which I think should go a lot quicker this time: -

Henry.....I am with you on this one, I think I will be happier with them made from brass. Dave.... It sure means a lot with you saying that. Very encouraging to say the least. I have to thank you again for all of your help you have provided me so far. It has helped me to be able to make some of the parts that I have. Scott...Thank you bud!!....I believe the plate would be a little more in scale going the brass route. Currently I made the mounts out of .020" thick evergreen styrene and the brass I was going to use is .016" thick K&S stock. I don't think it will be really hard at all to make them out of brass now and think i did all of the hard work making the ones out of plastic figuring everything out. I would take the ones I have already made Transfer drill the holes to the brass and then basically trace the plastic ones with a sharpie and then cut out with my dremel and or razor saw and then use my sanding boards and files to clean it up. Then I am thinking of using some of the Blacken-It from Micro Marks to see how well it turns the brass black. wondering if it would look a little more realistic than paint. Brad.... Thanks buddy!!! I couldn't agree more that they would look better once trimmed. Hoping to have something more for you guys soon. -

Richard.... thanks man. I am really pleased with this 2nd round of front motor mouns and how they turned out. i keep debating if i should make them out of brass or not. Mike... thanks buddy. i appreciate your support. I apologize that I havent gotten more done on this to share. i have had a few things going on in my life and havent had much bench time lately. -

I got a little more bench time in tonight. I got the oil pump primered and little bit left to sand and then It is ready. So I focused on redoing my front motor mounts since the original ones weren't quite right. I am pretty happy with how they turned out tonight other than I just need to trim a little more off of them and then they will be good to go. But most likely I will be taking these patterns and putting them on brass strips that way the brackets will be a little stronger. Anyway here are some pics of them..... Right Side Bracket: Left Side Bracket: Front View, Keep in mind that I will be trimming a little off of each side so that the bracket won't over hang the chassis so much: Here is two views to show that I have the engine block in supported by the motor mounts with the Scale hardware bolts in place, testing that they all hold like I wanted: -

Hey Guys.... Thanks for all being patient with me on this build. I have a tiny update from a little and I mean very little that I have gotten to do this past week. and I am hoping to get some time in this weekend on this build. I am having major withdrawals on this build. I got some initial primer on the oil pump to see some areas that I will need to add some bondo: Another View: Then I started by filling in the main hole I was using for mounting purposes and drill a few holes in the body for some bolts: since these pics I have added some more bondo on this oil pump which I need to sand off and then it will be time for more primer. and hopefully after that the next thing is for it to be ready for paint. I will be getting back to the bench a little today and tomorrow so I hope to have some more pics up soon for you guys. -
