New tires from Ma's Resin
highway replied to Marc @ MPC Motorsports's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Man, those are nice! Now what am I going to do with the case of Super Bees I bought the last time they were reissued just for those tires?? -
Thanks, fordsixty, but I plan on NOT including the rusty fender on the model because I plan on getting a new fender for the 1:1 because that is the ONLY rust on the whole truck, except for a couple little spots on the inner rockers inside the doors. The old 7.3 smokes like a freight train when it first starts and does it's fair share of rattling too, but sounds good through the straight pipe and almost burned out glasspack muffler! My plan for my build also is not only as it is now, but as I would like it to look someday. In addition to the replaced fender, I'm going to build it with the 5 inch dual stacks and hopefully Alcoa aluminum wheels (if I can afford them ) that I plan on putting on the real truck, along with some Chrome Shop Mafia mudflaps in the back.

352 Truck and Pup
highway replied to Paul B's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Of course you think it's gonna look cool, Tim, it's a Pete!! -
Is there any time limit on this build, I'd like to join in but I have a build in progress on another site's community build going on right now as well.
-
Fordsixty, that is one cool ride!! I love the diesel conversion. Maybe now I might have the guts to try my own diesel conversion to turn this: Into this: with my old greasy 7.3 Liter (before the powerstroke turbo version): I still have to find the guts to cut down the cab, though!!

I think I got pieces and parts of one of these from a friend of mine, hmmmmmm, gives me an idea! Nice work so far.

Best KW Aerodyne COE: AMT or Revell
highway replied to Mike W.'s topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
I seen someone mention the frame length on the AMT kit, and actually, the long frame is from the "Papa Truck" and "Hide Out Truck" releases in the Tyrone Malone race truck series. They both had the wedge hauler on the back for hauling the drag trucks. -

Beautiful work, Chris! I'll take at least six sets of those airbags!! -

Cool! I have four or five builds in the works or in planning that need them! I'll check my parts for the Midnight Cowboy/Sneaky Pete/Alley Rat to see if I spare a front and rear wheel you might be able to use for a master. -
Thanks Pete, I started looking aroung the web for other Big Boy locations because, while driving tractor trailer I had seen one in Denver, and find 8 still survive today, of 25 originally built. Of the 8 survivors, 6 live at museums and 2 of those 6 are inside the museum. I found that at this link: http://www.trainweb.org/jlsrr/bigboy/information/bigboy%20information%20center.htm#anchor locations I "Bing"ed Big Boy Locomotive and found many useful pics and info, I needed to do that anyway, I still have 2 of the original Monogram Snaptites sitting on the shelf waiting to be built! P.S.: Just to give everyone an idea of the size of the locomotive, this model is HO (1:87) scale and the track in the pic is two 9 inch sections of Kato brand straight track, and the model barely fits!!

Here's an idea I used when Metalizers wouldn't give me the look I wanted for this trailer-aluminum foil! I used sprayable craft glue to attach it on the trailer body.

Super Swamper Bogger Test Shot
highway replied to cnaind's topic in Truck Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Alan, checked out your site and love the one ton tires! How about some dually wheels from the Monogram F350 or the Alcoa pickup style from the Revell Midnight Cowboy, Sneaky Pete, Alley Rat, or Revell Chevy wrecker kits?? -
Matt, just checked out your site, and I like your work! Would you consider some dually wheels for pickups? I know many builders (including me!!) who need wheels for duallies, but I haven't found anyplace offering them. Maybe the wheels from the Monogram F350 or even the Alcoa aluminum style from the old Revell Midnight Cowboy. And maybe a few more 4x4 conversions, too??
-
If you're going to have an "Other Models" section, you're more than welcome to use any of these pictures: This is a Union Pacific "Big Boy" Locomotive built from a Revell of Germany (formerly an old Monogram Snap-tite) kit.

This is the first bird I've ever seen with dog dish wheels. Very different!!
-
Looks good, I'm planning on 1 with the 77/78 nose with the shaker hood, similar to the one on the cover of the March 2010 "Hot Rod".

Attempt #2 is coming back together, I just have the driver's side wall and floor to reglue in place: I'm making it stronger this time, using some extra bracing behind the walls and some five min epoxy to hold it all together. The Bondo work on the roof is done (I used enough hardener this time!!) and after the other wall and floor is on, I'm going to sand the rivets off to make everything smooth as most of the real ones are and more Bondo S&G putty to smooth everything together. Hopefully, the temps here are going to be in the low 60s by the end of the week, so I may have the truck in primer by this weekend!

Good luck in the venture, and I hope some of the resin you're thinking of carrying are engines. -
Flatbed trailers
highway replied to whale392's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
I, too, have seen very few 53' flats, but the ones I have seen with spread axles usually do not have the rear axle any closer than 5 or 6 feet from the rear bumper. That is because some states have a specific axle length law. The laws vary state to state, but the shortest is 40 feet from kingpin to the center of the rear axle (California if I remember correctly) and that applies for all trailers, not just flats. Most trailers I seen, though, are 48' and the axle on a spread can be all the way at the rear. -
I don't have the sleeve anymore. The best I can tell you is it is 5/16 inch wide. I hope that helps!
-
I'm really not sure, I'll see if I still have the package, but I do know it's the biggest C-channel I could find from evergreen. If I still have the package sleeve, I'll let you know what the evergreen part number is.

ford 9000 project

Looking back over the pics, it's no wonder you got a first place at the show! Great work! I just hope mine turns out half as nice as yours. -

Blowns10, I love what you've done so far and I'm happy to see I'm not the only one crazy enough to do this idea on a Ford. Here's a pic of my WIP: I stretched my stock kit sleeper to a 180 inch, mine is also a curbside, and my next will be closer to what you built, converting the stock kit sleeper was a pain in the blank! By the way, what did you make the Qualcom roof dish from? It looks so real! -
By the way, here's what that greasy beast lives in:
